  1. Same here. They've got six months with the extension and I send reminders off and on. No guarantees this time of year.
  2. I agree. I'm trying to limit my work, especially new clients. No more businesses with multiple owners (unless two spouses), just sole shareholder or smllc types. No business startups with heavy debt, things like that. No prior year returns (I have a couple of existing clients I'm trying to get caught up but no new ones). I'm getting older and I want 'easy'.
  3. Just got my 7004 accepted for my 6/30 FYE C corp client. They have been in business for a long time but not 100 years. Not sure how long but daughter (not young) runs the dry cleaning business that her father started years ago. Has always been a C corp. So for me at least, I didn't have the problem.
  4. Thanks for the heads-up. I have a C corp fiscal year June 30 I'll be sending in the 7004 soon.
  5. I'm wondering how she can have capital gain. Did the partnership just make a book entry to even the capital accounts? I don't see how that would make her have a capital gain. Was the capital gain reported on her K-1? I'm not sure I'm following what actually took place at the partnership level and what the source of a capital gain was.
  6. Just watch out for that white truck trailer that looks like the sky.
  7. My Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 is about 10 years old. They are not updating drivers for it. When I got my new W8 computer two years ago, my scanner wouldn't work but I found a way to make it think it was working with W7 and it's been working fine with W8. I assume when I get a new W10 computer, I'll get a new scanner at that time.
  8. Also from Start Page (Tiles), you can page down and get a complete listing of programs. Swipe with a touch screen, or click the down arrow button at lower left.
  9. In W8, if you hit the Windows key + X, you get a nice pop up menu, giving you quick options to just about everything.
  10. I'm probably thinking of the SE health insurance deduction (limited to medicare wages).
  11. I don't have a reference off hand, but I thought it was limited to Medicare wages.
  12. Did you come from W7 or earlier? I currently have W8.1 so I'm thinking the learning curve won't be as steep.
  13. I tend to agree but I wouldn't update an existing system to W10. When I buy new, I'll go with W10.
  14. Am I going to have a problem with you, Raylon?
  15. Keeps the dust out too.
  16. Yes, the buyer will probably just want to buy the assets so the seller will probably not have a choice.
  17. The only thing I would add is don't hire your own attorney. How would you know who to call, what their experience is in these matters? Contact E&O first, let them pick the attorney when and if one is necessary.
  18. What are some of the ways people are using this? Can you save them to a file? If so, how are they organized by topic or client file? Are they just temporary reminder lists to yourself? I've used the Acrobat post it notes on pdf files but they are specific notes for that pdf. And I can save them attached to that pdf file.
  19. I didn't realize it was in Windows. There is a similar feature in Acrobat and I have used post it notes on my pdf files for some time.
  20. Amazing. I've had clients who tell my they know someone who works at IRS or who retired from IRS and this person says they can do this or that. As if these IRS personnel know all and are the final authority.
  21. Yes, but on the other hand, brokers can push these and they don't understand them anymore than the average person. And of course, the industry got these laws passed thru to allow these things. In the real sense, calling them 'partners' and receiving K-1s for this kind of thing seems absurd, But as you said, the investor should look into these things more closely.
  22. How long does it take the IRS to notify someone who took the credit and wasn't qualified? I asked a friend who bought a Prius in 2014 if he had a plug-in. He said no but his wife prepared their tax return and took the credit. Uh oh. I didn't do the return and had nothing to do with it. I was wondering if they'll get a notice and owe the credit back.
  23. Thanks for info. This was what I was seeing too. Client doesn't have the plug-in. So no credit available. I think the salesmen are telling them they get a tax credit.
  24. I'm looking all over for credit info on autos. New 2015 Prius. Hybrid gas/battery. Has this been phased out? Does it have to be a plug-in now to qualify for a credit?
