Does anyone know the difference between a heat pump system and an AC and Furnace? Client brought in an invoice, total $16,000. The jargon and model numbers are confusing. Client said new AC and Furnace but was told of $2000 credit. If I use new AC and Furnace, credits are total $1200, $600 each. If I use heat pump, credit is $2000

I've had a few clients who want to pay electronically. Got a call yesterday. A client filed Fed and both Ohio and Ky. Owed all three. The e-payments went thru for Fed and Ohio. But not Ky. I don't know why. I told him to give it a little more time, keep checking. I'm not sure how to follow this up. Of course, this is a state, not the Fed. But we'll see what we'll see.

Thanks

In the past, I think my client letters included a paragraph about paying by credit card if the client wanted to. I don't see that paragraph now. I know I can edit the letter. But is there a way to automatically fill it in?

FinCen zigzag's latest zig. or zag. I can't keep up.

This is why I never got involved. I sent an email to my clients in early December telling about it and giving them the FinCen website. They're on their own. -
I'm still trying to dig a pigmy. At least we know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.

I can't work anymore with music, even the elevator music. Back in my younger days, I could work statistics problems, long hand on paper while cranking up the rock music.

1099-R with charitable direct contribution INCLUDED - now what?

Another quirk about the QCD I recently learned. The age for RMDs went up recently to 73 (I think). But the eligiblity age to do QCDs did not go up. So more confusion on the part of the clients to do or not do the QCDs. -
Yes, full standard deduction is allowed if they made more than that.

ATX has this feature too. It's at the bottom of the input screen. Input the amounts on the 1099-R as is. Then back it out, It should flow to 1040 correctly. -
I have an annual eye exam in the fall. The Dr. wanted me to start eye drops in one eye. Wanted to see me again in six months. Oh, that's today, March 12. What was I thinking? I should have put it off another month after April 15.
-
Thanks. I figured it out too. In my case, there is a little basis, so I had to use Form 8606. I had to enter the taxable amount. But the 1099R summary page doesn't have that line from last year showing a deduction of the QCD amount.
-
Has something changed in the ATX input of a QCD on the 1099R screen? I put the taxable amount from the 1099R and check below the QCD and put the amount in the box. But it doesn't subtract when carrying over to the 1040. And the 1099R summary page doesn't show a line for subtracting the QCD. The only way I can make it work is enter the taxable amount after subtracting the QCD amount.

Are we having fun yet? Hang on for the ride.

I've never been bothered by the March 15 due date. I just extend those. Most of my clients who have pass thru entities are usually just one or two owners and I also do their personal returns. So I think of April 15 due dates for them. And those who are later, just get extensions. It's usually the same ones done by April or on extension. For the brokerage accounts, they are even later than Feb 15 gettting their consolidated 1099s to clients. I try to get the returns done by April 15 but there are some who are on extension. My big complaint is with clients who have umteen brokerage accounts.

I haven't gotten this message yet. But my ATX does continue to tell me to close the program. This has been going on for a few years but it seems to be more frequent this year.

Thanks. Sheesh.

I use ATX. Form 7206 shows up in the return. For Self Employed Health Insurance Deduction. My client is a W2 employee, no self employed income. I discarded the form and when I save and check the return, the form is added back into the return. It doesn't prevent me from creating the efile. But the form is included in the efile forms list. I haven't had this form even for other clients who are self employed and take the health insurance deduction. I simply go to the Statement 1 line for the deduction. Does anyone know what this form does and why it shows up in my client return?

Slightly off topic. My Outlook email has suddenly stopped putting my emails in the designated subfolders I set up. I had a Client subfolder set up. Now emails are sent to my general inbox or my junk folder or my personal subfolder. Sheesh. I'm having to make a rule again for every email I receive to put future emails from this person in a certain subfolder. Why in the world did that happen? On its own?

Is this necessary? I use the same password.

It's that time of year. What can I say. I get a little slap happy. -
I don't have any binding. I just use a folder and put the copies and worksheets inside the folder. Not binded.
