  1. I usually only work a half day today. Take tomorrow off. Back on Thursday but I probably won't get much done. Fridays off the rest of the year. Semi-retired the rest of the year.
  2. For ATX users, is anyone able to efile the state equivalent of Fed 1041. The KY 741 is not able to be efiled. I have put in a request to ATX for several years to make this available. Ky does allow efiling of 741 and other tax prep software has it available. But not ATX. I was wondering about other states.
  3. Into the land of Mordor.
  4. I have a client (one shareholder S Corp and his personal return) who has been behind. In late 2024, we completed 2020 and 2021. Had to be paper filed. I haven't heard from him since but now the busy season is over, I'll remind him to get me the 2022 and 2023 quickly so we can get 2024 before the extension due date. We'll see.
  5. I saw that too. I don't think the exceptions for fiscal year apply for my client. Probably going to have to go with calendar year.
  6. I understand the trust chooses a calendar year or fiscal year with the first return filing. I also understand that when the trust gets a Tax ID number, the choice of calendar year doesn't matter. It is when you actually file the first return. Does this also apply to an extension request? In other words, the calendar year due date is approaching, if I send an extension request for the calendar year, can I still choose a fiscal year when the first return is actually filed?

Ha, I have no idea what you're talking about. I said I was not a techie. That to me is techie.

I'm not a techie or as techie as some of you. I don't even want to open the back and dust it out. I'm on my 5th tax season with my current computer. I was waiting for Win12 but I don't know if they're coming out with that or not. I'm currently on Win10. I plan to get a new computer later this year even if it's Win11. I guess my new computer will be better to upgrade to Win12 if they do come out with it.
  9. I'm way low. But I'm old. So what anymore. I do keep a time sheet on each client and use a rate times my time. But the total is much higher than I actually charge. I'm too embarrassed to tell you what I charge.
  10. I'm out of gas. It seems to be more hectic this year but I don't know why. Maybe some are getting in here later. I'm not sure. I told myself I wasn't taking new clients. Then there was the son of a client, the daughter of a client, the parents of a client, fiancee of a client. Whoa, I gotta learn to say no.

Whoa. I'm planning to buy a new computer later this year and my current computer will only be five years old. I don't trust them to last very long.

Thanks Abby. I thought that's what you meant. The Task Manager. I have had occasions when the ATX would not start and had to end task. I'm not sure if I ended the server part though. Good to know when I do my backups.

Bullldog, I do back up (not frequently enough) but I don't do the auto overnight. I do it during the day while I'm here and the computer is on.

Abby, what do you mean 'end the ATX servers'? and 'turn off'? Does turning off my computer at night do this?

Whew! What timing. I'm planning to get a new computer later this year. Hopefully I won't have this problem the rest of this tax season.
  16. On the top of Form 8962 is a check box if filing married separately and no exceptions apply. It also says to see instructions. The instructions say married filing separately makes you ineligible for the PTC (unless exceptions apply) and also say not to enter the numbers except the far right column. When I did that, the full amount of the PTC was caculated as excess and had to be paid back. The exceptions do not apply to my client. Obviously in my case, it is better to file jointly. They have to pay back some of the PTC but not all of it if they filed separately.
  17. I've always used HP. Will continue. Not too many years to go. I have the low end ones. Not any problems. I assume the other big names are good too.
  18. I wasn't expecting another $522 either. That's what surprised me. I saw the exceptions but they are married and living together and no spousal abuse. This spouse actually has higher income than the other spouse. I'll take another look and see if I have all the right boxes checked.
  19. One spouseon Medicare. Other spouse has health ins thru market place with 1095-A. Joint filing, Form 8962 results in paying back $1989 in PTC. Instructions say if married filing separately, PTC cannot be taken. But ATX Form 8962 shows spouse with 1095-A getting another $522 in PTC. Is this correct? Am I doing something incorrectly on the input?
  20. I checked recently and didn't see a mailing address. Yes, I'm old fashion and write and mail checks.
  21. I just had this. Checked with client. Two SSA-1099s. Same claim number. The second has higher amount and says it is updated. Same deductions for Part B. Client agrees, the second higher amount includes the first lower amount.
  22. I mailing something to a client the other day on a Friday. I was told it would arrive Monday. It was a week later on the following Monday when the client received it.
  23. I tried that Abby. The box is already checked but still doesn't show up in the letter. I've copied that part into a blank Word document and then copied into the letter thru the Edit system. I suppose with the new epayment rules coming, ATX and others will incorporate it into the software.
  24. I'm guilty. I still write and mail checks. I've thought for some time this may be coming and I would be forced to do everything electronically. I'll do it and clients will have to do it. But what I won't do is do it for the clients. They will have to do it themselves online. I have a few clients who pay their tax payments on line. I remind them to get confimation before they log off and print the confirmations for themselves and me.
  25. I have a certificate but it has numbers and letters but no word description of what it is. I thought this might be a general certificate covering all their products and not specifically for the product the client has. That's why I called it confusing.
