  1. FYI, I e-filed the return yesterday without the Q info for the TP. It was accepted last night. I still can't say this is the correct way to handle this issue, but it's the only one that worked for me.
  2. FYI, after many conversations with TRX and IRS (and a total of 3 rejects), I've found no real reason for the return to have this error. As a last resort, I sent the e-file without the box 12 Q info for the TP. Since it was only including the Q info for the spouse, everything now matched up. It was accepted last night. Now to see if it generates a letter for a W-2 mismatch. I will be happy to explain to IRS why I filed it that way.

    Depreciation

I have posted there and here. I get better, quicker responses here. I agree that they have only announced that community on this one. I have never received an e-mail or other correspondence letting me know it was there. My guess is they've never made a general announce of that community. It might be on their website - I haven't checked there in a while. But 2 forums are always better than one. I post in both places.

    Depreciation

I didn't mean my comment to be a generalization on TRX support. I have usually gotten pretty good responses. In this particular case, I was disappointed that he didn't know how to move an asset worksheet. I am also somewhat frustrated that TaxWise isn't as user friendly as I'm used to. I usually make few to no tech support calls. I know part of the problem was that I didn't have much of a chance to practice this software before I started preparing real returns. That is not the fault of TRX, but rather do to personal issues I've been dealing with for the last month or 2. Most of the issues I'm running into, I would not have seen in the dummy returns I would have normally tried, anyway. Most of my testing is on dummy data I input, not usually on rolled over data. I'll be calling them again tomorrow on some printing error messages I'm getting. But those problems come and go, so it's harder to pin down their sources. This is a great forum. But since there are not as many TRX users as ATX, it sometimes takes longer to get a response.

    Depreciation

Thanks so much carolynm. I couldn't actually get them to move by dragging (using either the left or right click). BUT, with the right click bringing up the context menu, I found "change parent form." I thought I had looked through all these choices before. Either I missed it or it wasn't there before I added the other 4562. Anyway, it worked. I wish Tech Support had known about this. He told me I had to re-enter everything. I still haven't figured out what it doesn't like on the one worksheet, but the diagnostics don't show any errors. Thanks again.

    Depreciation

I learned a little more, but still can't make it work. The assets are linked to a 4562, but the 4562 is not linked to the Rental A worksheet - instead it is linked to the directly to the Sch E. If I go to the rental worksheet and try to link it to the existing 4562, it doesn't give me that option. It only allows me to create a new 4562. When I looked in the help section, it said that when you start a new 4562 it will ask you to select the parent form. Is there a way to change the parent form after it is already there? Is there a way to correct this link without re-entering the existing assets? Thanks
  7. I believe you are thinking of ATX - I don't see any tabs in TRX / Taxwise. Maybe if TRX offers ATX next year, I'll go back to it. I switched because of the price and customer service. But if I have CCH back anyway, at least it's at a better price. Thanks chief - I found it and have added it!

I remember that, too. But I don't remember when it changed.

No problem. I e-filed a couple of returns last year for 1st timers. (And already did one of those this year as a 2nd timer.)
  10. Thanks Don. That works.
  11. Client has rental property with 3 assets. The depreciation is carrying to the 4562 but is not carrying to the Schedule E. If I try to link to the 4562 from the Sch E worksheet depreciation line, it asks if I want a new 4562. How can I make it see the existing 4562? Also, I am getting a red exclamation mark by one of the assets. But when I go to that form, there are no red lines. The diagnostics do not show any errors. How can I find out what the software thinks is the problem? Thanks
  12. 2 unrelated TRX questions: Is there a privacy policy included in the software? If so, where is it? Also, is there a way to tell TaxWise you want to deposit the refund to 2 or more accounts? IRS has allowed it since at least last year. Thanks
  13. Thanks everyone. I finally got the ack today and it was accepted (on 1/28). My CA client said she saw on the news that for returns submitted by last Friday, they would get their refunds.
  14. Thanks Joel, That seems to work. However by not using the non-depreciation worksheet, I have to fill in the data with overrides. I hope that doesn't keep it from rolling over properly next year. At least, Part I is now blank. Thanks again
  15. I live in TX and don't do very many state returns, and have not had any problems with the ones I have done. Thursday morning I sent in a Federal with a CA piggyback. The Fed rejected (I missed a checkbox) that afternoon and I have not received an ack from CA. I have resubmitted the Fed and it is now accepted. What will happen with the CA? Can it be accepted if the Fed rejected (originally)? I cannot resubmit CA until I get a rejection from CA. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  16. My client started an installment sale in 2007. I prepared that return in Intellitax, but most of the installment sale info did not roll over to TaxWise. I did get 2 forms 6252 with the label I used in 2007 (even though it was just one before). I filled out the worksheet it said to use if asset was not on depreciation sheet. It is filling out and printing the data in part I - even though this should only be shown in year of sale. What is the proper way to input the proper info into TaxWise? Do I need a depreciation worksheet? It was never used in a business. Thanks
  17. Thanks for the update on the Pub #. I haven't used the pub in years since the software tells you what it is. Or at least some do. It would be nice if they had told me about the change. It's probably on their website that I never use, since it never seemed like I needed it. I should be more diligent. FYI, TRX talked to TaxWise support who told us there was an article in their knowledgebase. Turns out that just said that you had to input the combat zone, which was already included. Bill (at TRX) did suggest that I input the Q values with the cents part even though the s/w will round. I did that. One thing that I had noticed before was that line 64b of F1040 (where it brings in the combat pay) was red. After I entered the cents part, the red went away (not shown as estimate either time). I don't know if there was some kind of rounding issue in TaxWise that got transmitted to IRS. So, I'm not sure if that fixed the problem. I don't want to re-submit yet and possible generate a new rejection. Bill is still researching and I will see if he finds anything. If I don't hear from him, I'll resubmit Sunday or Monday. Thanks again for your research. It very well could be that it's looking to the wrong field.
  18. Gee, how could I forget them? Add also, Stevie Ray Vaughan. There's a statue of him by Lady Bird Lake (used to be Town Lake). @Kyle -- San Antonio is nice, too. Only problem is that it is too big for me. Not as big as Houston (where I grew up), but still too big. Austin starting to get there, unfortunately.

  20. Yes, it is a 1068 error referencing Seq 1165. However, I don't think that error code is new. Since TaxWise does not provide the description with the error code (or at least I haven't found it), I had to look it up in Pub 1345a. The latest version I see on their website is from 2005 and it is in there. I'll see what I can find out in the next couple of days. But if it can't be fixed in time, I will try it without the TP's Q and include in the preparer notes (if I can find it). I've still got a lot to learn on this s/w and I just can't find the time to search the book. I may cheat, and just ask here. Thanks for your research and help.
  21. Box 1 for the TP has about $1500 and for the spouse is $0. When I resubmitted I did change the $0 to $1. It still rejected with the same error. I spent a couple of hours talking to various IRS people today. At least I didn't spend much of that time on hold. I started with the e-help desk. They went looking through the return and even did a data dump to see everything. They did more research and called me back. Unfortunately that was while I was out and they left a voice mail. They told me that the combat election had to total both W-2s. If I felt this was wrong I could call the regular help line (800-829-1040). Well, that's not true. It is acceptable for the spouse only to elect to include the combat pay. That was done last year in August with no problem. So, I called the tax practitioner hotline. They didn't know anything about it. I suggested the possibility of leaving off the Q and the amount on the TP W-2. This would not change anything on the return, but would cause a mismatch when they compare to the real W-2 later. They sent me to tax law. The guy who answered said that was not what their department did and that did not staff lawyers. He quickly sent me to EIC. This lady was very nice and she checked for any alerts to see if there were known problems with their s/w or any of the vendors not processing this correctly. She had no info on it. As to my "work-around" she said they couldn't advice me to do that. Next step is that I will call TRX again and see if they can find a software problem. TaxWise has been around a while. I would think they could program this correctly. At this point, I really don't know if the problem is TaxWise or IRS. If anyone knows anything about this problem, I am open to suggestions. My clients came in Sunday with a simple return and yet they won't be able to get their refund next Friday. It's a shame after all they have done for our Country.

    Schedule D

Thanks. I figured there was a simple answer I was missing.

    Schedule D

I know this is probably a basic question, but I'll ask it since I'm confused. What determined why the house sale was shown on a 1041? When my clients have sold inherited houses (or stocks, etc), I've shown it on the recipient's 1040. I have looked at the instructions for the 1041 where it states that it is reported there when the house is sold by the estate. What determines if the estate or the inheritor sold it? Is it the name on the closing papers? Thanks for helping me wrap my brain around this.
  24. I took TRX's advise and resubmitted. It rejected again. I have a call into one of the people that helped me last night but he hasn't called back. I posted a question about this reject on the e-file forum but have had no responses there, either. I guess I'm the only one with this problem. It's related to a military couple with almost all wages combat related. They are eligible for EIC but IRS is rejecting. Everything is filled out like on the W-2 and everything seems to be calculating correctly. If TRX can't help, I may just have to call IRS. That sounds even more fun that software support this time of year. Maybe it won't be too bad. Thanks
  25. I didn't time it, but I think my hold time yesterday was probably 10-15 minutes. I talked to them for about 45 minutes (+/-) and they couldn't determine why my e-file rejected either. I spoke to a tech person and she was discussing it with a tax person. Maybe it was an IRS glitch?
