New client for tomorrow is self employed horse shoe-er (not sure that's a word, or spelled right). Anyway she's been a DIYer but found some issues with Turbo Tax & wanted help. She was explaining the expences she had - including mileage. So, we started discussing commute vs business miles. She was including all miles from her house as business miles, but does not have an OIH. Her house would count as principal place of business as it is the only fixed location for administrative & managment activities. But in this case most of her actual work activities are at the fams of her clients. Does the admin test only apply with OIH? I'm thinking in this case her miles from home are commute. But want to make sure I can't use the principal place of residence in place of the OIH - or if that even applies in this case. Thanks!

OK, I needed to delete an e-file again tonight. (error message when getting the submission report, so I said "no" not OK to transmit -- I've learned that just puts it in limbo. Tried again and the submission report showed the file in there twice.) The file name in the Transmit folder is starts with the letter E2 next string of numbers is the SSN then (in this case) IUSFO.MEFXML I'm not sure how much of the last part is useful, but I do recognize the MEF portion. So before deleting it, I went into the program and used Crank's suggestion. When I went back to the Transmit folder that file was in fact gone. So Crank's method is much easier than the method tech support gave me. But, on the plus side, we now have 2 methods! (Oh, and the e-file got submitted without error that time.)

Good idea. Keeps from having to know what the file name is. Thanks!

It took me forever to find it. So glad it could help you amd maybe others.

The one last night wasn't too bad afterall. Only a 15 - 20 sales. Why Ameriprice now thinks the client needs this spread over 4 accounts and a 45 page 1099 Consolidatd is beyond me. Oh and all the trades are mutual funds. Yes, TW should be able to have the features that Turbo Tax does.

I'm guessing if I go the pdf route, I only attach the pages with the transactions on it. I'm not sure what IRS would do with the whole statement. And the one I'll work on tonight send me a pdf of the whole statement. I've had trouble before creating a pdf of only some pages in an existing pdf. I've either gotten weird characters or bad quality. Something else to play with tonight (if I don't just enter the whole thing.)

I have not looked into this, but did ask my sales rep when I bought it. He said that we couldn't import a spreadsheet, but we can attach a pdf. And I *think* I saw a checkbox on the Sch D or 8949 for attaching a 1099B. I have 3 (so far) that have large (but not 800) 1099Bs. I'll be working on the first of these tonight. I'll let you know what I learn. Or, if you beat me to it, you can post what you find. No appointments tonight - I'm going out to dinner!

I plan to review ALL the s/w this summer. I am interested in TaxAct and hope it will do my complex returns.

I already run DBRepair several times a day. It has fixed lots of things for me. It didn't work in that case. There have also been times when DBRepair would quit with a "fatal error." At that point TW would not open because it thought DBRepair was still running. Same thing after a shut down and restart. Still thought DBRepair was running. Task manager confirmed it wasn't running. If you're interested, the fix for this is to delete these 3 files from UTS12: DBRepair.dat (NOT .exe) Ratstorage.dat Rattime.dat 1st tech told me all 3, but another said the deleting the 1st one was most important. Yesterday I made sure to pause or stop my continuous b/u while in TW. No more "eaten" (yet-knock wood), but still got .dll errors when printing.

Well it does sound like they are still open and working.

I bought a Seagate hard drive that came with Mimeo backup software. Will thinks the problem comes when closing a return that the backup is accessing at the same time. There is a certain logic to that. However it didn't give me any issues last year.
-
What version is TRX on now?
-
Tech guy "Will" thinks my continuous backup was causing the problem. I'm now pausing it while in the program. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the update. With the problems I've been having in TaxWise, I keep thinking about going back to TaxExact. I've also considered the possibility that it's my computer & I should install TaxWise on my old PC - it runs Vista. But the tech guy thinks the problem is my continuous backup. We'll see if pausing that while in TaxWise helps any.

Hi John - To get the 9325s to print at all you have to do that in the set-up options: Tools - Untilities / Setup Options In that Utilities box, go to the Setup menu and pick Setup Options From there, go tot he Printer Setup Tab and put a checkmark by: Automatically print form 9325 as each IRS tax return is acknowledged Then see my tip above to print the old ones. Hope that helps.

DonnaA-you are correct. I got confirmation this morning from MainStreet TaxWise that there is no 1041 conversion. At least it's just one.
-
Did anyone convert a 1041 from TaxWorks? I ran the individual and business convresions. The business coverted my one 1065 & I didn't have any 1120 or 1120S. But I don't see anything for converting the 1041. Thanks!

The folder is: C:UTS12TRANSMIT I don't have any pending e-files right now so I can't confirm the file name. But I'm pretty sure the SSN was in there. I had several problems early on where files that said they were transmitted really weren't. I would confirm with tech support that they did not have the file before I deleted it from the TRANSMIT folder. I have since learned that if you get any error message along the way, it won't transmit -- even if it says it did and even if it shows up in the "waiting for ack" (or similar name?) report. In my case, I couldn't overwrite the e-file. The program thought it was transmitted. After deleting it from the TRANSMIT folder I could re-create & resend.

I'm glad this could help you.

Yes. There's a folder un the UTS12 folder with the efiles. The file time usually starts with an "E" (I think) and then followed by the SSN. I'm not in front of my work computer right now & don't remember the folder name. I'll check tonight and post back.
-
Will do. I would not want to wish this problem on any of y'all.

Happened again! Hopefully backups are OK. But not restoring until I can talk to tech support tomorrow. I did send an email to the tech that helped me a few weeks ago. Even if I can restore off backup, this problem is not acceptable. I wonder if Tax Exact has ironed out any of it's problems?

I can't help from an ATX standpoint, but I'm not sure you are asking the right question. If you are sending the e-file, then you are the ERO-- electronic return originator. But if you didn't prepare the returns, you would need to take out (or replace) the preparer info. Or, perhaps I misunderstood.
