Taxpayer advocates are for everyone. That is my recommendation as well.

I use TaxWise and it is also down.

Yes. If TP is permanently disabled.

They are coming now. I got 12 of 15 before I vacated this morning. The others were sent later in the day on the 15th. I use TWise

The new forms and reduced withholding absolutely slayed me. Having to sit with every client and go through the stress of their disappearing refunds OVER AND OVER AND OVER, with caring and compassion was emotional and exhausting. The new forms sunk my performance time in each return. And time is money. Overall, the business of taxes was awful, for me anyway. If this was my first year, it would be my last year. And, I'm generally an upbeat person. I am going to close my office tomorrow and not looking back until May 1st. The up side to all of this is that God already knew what was ahead of me, went before me, and didn't let my spirit down. My assistant does all the processing, opens all their mail, scans all the documents, and together we create some kind of "fun factor" in every day. It might just be lunch, but we work something in. I'm really very blessed to have her. That's part of the "God" thing. It's a good spirit here, just tired from it all. I'm truly grateful for this board. Truly. Grateful. You all have become real friends. Another "God" thing, I'm sure.

I will hustle a little more today, but mostly all my ducks are in a row. More extensions than I want, but I took a page from Catherine's book and just straight up told the late ones. Tomorrow, I will renew my driver's license and Wednesday I will be lovin' on my grandson in DE for the rest of the week. I told my extensions I will see them when I'm sober, probably May 1st. I was only half kidding.... You guys and gals are truly the best~ Thanks for another season~ God Bless Y'all~

The actual cost of the agreement is cheaper when you do the direct deposit. If they can pay in 90 days, do not do the installments. Instead, have the client call the IRS and work that out.

I have never sent the 8453 as long as the detail was attached. I don't think it's necessary when you electronically attach the detail to the e-file. I only send it if they have given away a car and I need to send the charitable receipt attached to the 8453.

If they didn't use it for qualified medical expenses, it would be taxable.
-
That is a beautiful thing, right there. I might have a little tear in my eye. You have changed my life.

Thanks. The doc said it's an infection in the eyelid. Wonderful. I see a specialist Thursday. In the meantime, I'll try not to look at the children directly.
-
The last I heard was... I just overnighted my tax package to you..... me~ I'll file your extension.... WHAT? WHY? It's only the 3rd! The deadline isn't until the 15th! me~ Tell that to the 60 ahead of you! (Oh no you didn't just tell me when the deadline is....) (ok, I might have overstated that number) (your fee just went up)

Against the 1099 income on the Sch C. A portion can be taken there.
-
I sent 13 this morning. All the others are paper, and put back on the client to mail with payments. I'll probably have 20 or so. Trying to scale back, too. I would love to walk away after the deadline and not work the rest of the year. An infection I've been fighting blew up in my right eye overnight. It looks like somebody hit me in the face. great...just great...

Terry, in no way was I putting teachers down, and I pray you didn't take that the wrong way. I'm just saying, don't our Police deserve something? That's all. Thank you for your response, and truly, I didn't mean to offend anyone.

GOOD features on this Forum... have you tried this lately.

A great reminder. I am a donor, but when someone steps out to help me, I like to donate a little in their honor, too. Quietly of course. It just helps my spirit. Shhhhh... don't tell anybody. -
If the mower was for a business, you could expense it. This is for rental property. Abby, would you be able to expense it on the Sch E as supplies? As far as the police expenses go, you are supposed to figure out the total expenses and take a percent of those expenses on the Sch C. Policing the school as a "resource officer" is the very same thing as his regular duty. He's in uniform, he's still a cop. It's the same job, second location. He still uses the same training, uniform, packs heat, might have union dues that cover additional liabilities. Hey, I might be aggressive because my kid's been a cop for 16 years and I know how much they spend to be entrenched in society. But, I'm legal. So, I say figure the expenses, figure the percent, and take it on the C. 1099 income divided by (1099+W2) to get the percent of Sch C gross to total gross. Most of the time, I eyeball it. Something is very wrong when a teacher can take an above the line deduction of $250 (and I don't know a single one called out to show receipts) and a cop can't expense a gun, boots and laundering his uniform. It makes me sick, actually. RANT OVER. THANK YOU. #ifeelbetter #pleasedon'tfireme #idonate

This is my client in the military. He is a SC resident for tax purposes. He and his wife are both from SC, but until now she has had to pay taxes to whatever state his military career has placed him. This year, she can stay a SC resident along with him. Regarding the spouse's income, some states say that if spouse's income wasn't actually earned IN that home state, it's not taxable TO that home state. Not so with VA. We tax it all. I can't find a reference to this particular situation regarding SC. Is her income while earned in CA taxable to SC because she is a (military) SC resident with her husband? Can anyone show me where to find this?

I can't file a state without a federal. If my federal rejects, the state must be ppr. But, I am TWise, not ATX.
-
I agree with you. That's One.
-
It's a little different for me because I only take personal referrals. I am confident they have already discussed prices together.
-
If they ask my price, I absolutely don't quote. I tell them things like "cheaper than tax-in-a-box" or "I'll save you more money than you'll spend on me" or my all time favorite, "my prices are very competitive, but I don't strive to be the cheapest."
-
If you are just filing VA to get a refund, I would suggest filing a paper return for VA and don't file a federal (if it isn't necessary).

She's a NR for MA. If you are not required to file (I don't know), there still might be enough state tax withholding to file and get that back. It's just a consideration. If NJ taxes all income, including MA, there's probably a tax credit for taxes paid to MA.
