  1. Yeah, I don't wanna comment on EVERYTHING. I want to buy some likes, Vanna. So I can keep it on the down low and encourage my fam here.
  2. Absolutely. The market has more than doubled in the past five years. If you had money parked in VTSMX, your money more than doubled since 3/10/09. There is no reason to try to be creative, or pay somebody that amount of money to make you think HE'S creative. My engineer guy paid $19,700 in investment fees. He would have made 20.57% per year over the past five years with a pineapple as his advisor. I printed info from both Vanguard and Morningstar about Vanguard Total Stock Market Index, and I'm telling him I'm not a financial advisor, and you should be happy about that, read this. http://quotes.morningstar.com/fund/VTSMX/f?t=VTSMX Warren Buffet is no slouch when it comes to investing, and my good friend JohnH posted this article on another forum: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/warren-buffett-to-heirs-put-my-estate-in-index-funds-2014-03-13?pagenumber=1
  3. You are so good to me, John. And I know the interest rate will be miniscule. Or (nothing).
  4. Well, now I have "likes". Am I the only one who is running out of these? Didn't somebody say they ran out the other day? Did I dream that? Is it time to go home yet?
  5. I don't know, but it's criminal.
  6. I am out of "likes" or I would like that. This is no way to live.
  7. And you know Deb is going: "The return has been filed and accepted. Why are you people still talking?" And I ran out of "likes" again, Pacun, or I would like your short and sweet "she qualifies". This is no way to live.
  8. I love both of you too much to be mad. Psssh. Bring it on. You always hurt the one you love. That's what I hear.
  9. I do what I can. You thought I was using reverse psychology, didn't you? Ain't nobody got time for that.
  10. Nothing gets by you.
  11. Standalone. Zero problems. (With installing the update. Oh, I have some problems...) Updated before I read the thread. Just a Wednesday here. I think the key to life may be standing alone.
  12. None of the choices in #1 apply to her. You don't take the refundable part if 1, 2, and 3 all apply. "You do not qualify for a refundable American opportunity credit if 1 (a, b, or c), 2, and 3 below apply to you."
  13. All due respect, Deb is trying to determine what she can do with the information she has, and the facts and circumstances, not our life experiences. Cause she's a smart cookie.
  14. I love rants. Working on the engineer's return. That he spent four days on before bringing to me. With the penciled in forms and "backups" attached to each form. Just give me the forms and get outta my hair is my motto. He paid his financial advisor $19,700. A pineapple could have made money on mutual funds over the past five years. Sorry, don't have much to say about state taxes. Except this guy is going to pay thru the nose to TN. Cause his financial advisor knows all he wants to see is dividends.
  15. Remember that year, 2010?, when we also deducted health insurance on Sch SE? I hate it when something is for one year. Or a couple of years, like adding real estate tax to the standard deduction. I still have people thinking they are deducting real estate tax somewhere.
  16. I musta missed the part where she said the kid lived in CA. But Deb knows about the costs for this student, wherever she lives. The community college costs were 1,400. And you missed my point completely about refundable credits.
  17. Yep, there may be savings in there, too. I got a 21-year-old that can save birthday, Christmas, and graduation money for years. True story. His sister can save money for 3.5 minutes.
  18. If the parents COULD claim her and don't, she cannot claim her own exemption, and she is only eligible for the AOC, but not the refundable portion. But with these facts, parents cannot claim her, and Deb said she paid over 1/2 her own support ( and Deb would know), so she can take both parts.
  19. It's not hard for me to believe a person can live on $25,999. I see people raising families on that here. Well, that and their $8,000 in refundable credits. OK, bad example.
  20. I believe she qualifies for the refundable portion if she provided over 1/2 her own support. See bottom of page 4, top of p 5: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i8863.pdf

    CUT OFF

At this point, I would be all of the above. I hate that question, and basically I put it back in their lap: I have no way of knowing how many people will bring their information tomorrow, and I am two weeks behind, so I guess all bets are off if you don't have it in before the people who drop off tomorrow.

    NT Oh No!!

Yes, apparently only 80's athletic shorts are too short. Street shorts (and I use that term loosely, IF you know what I mean) can be obscene in 2014. And pajamas in Wal-mart are all the rage now, too.
  23. Ain't nobody got time for that. And, yes, welcome to the Board.

    NT Oh No!!

Me neither, had to look them up. But I did play basketball, and my kids want to know: "Mom. OMG. Why were shorts so short and socks so long??? OMG."
  25. Windows 7, stand alone, sit alone, whatever it takes. I am very happy I renewed. They should have cut us a deal, but I'm still happy. (Except for very little rants here and there because they can't fit the "R" in "ROLLOVER" in that space that's plenty big.) Nothing stressful this year. Very happy.
