NT / You know those people who don't set up voice mail?
RitaB replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
Erase, eradicate, exterminate, annihilate, obliterate, immolate, snuff, rub out, zap. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. -
You know those people who don't set up voice mail? And don't have text messaging or email? It's ok to kill those people.

Yes! And my clients will live longer, too. Win/win! Like medicine! Proverbs 17:22 I think I have no choice now.

Yes, I put the pro in procrastinate, why do you think I'm on here all the time? Seriously, I don't mind the difficult returns as much as the difficult clients. My late (not dead, yet) Realtor brought his crap in Friday. You know - the spreadsheets where nothing lines up and he only added 1/2 the column together, and he doesn't even know. Left an envelope taped to my office door this morning with his "corrections" and stuff he forgot Friday. I sent him a text: Come back and get an extension request and mail them a check. You ARE getting a extension.

If today is any indication of how it's going to be, I'm thinking a hug in a glass may save a life: I tried to make it smaller, I really did.

When I was growing up, we always milked one cow for us, raised and sold beef cattle. Raised pigs, too. Had racking horses we rode for fun and sometimes herding cattle. I have beef cattle still, no horses, or pigs. My sister has seven horses. The cutest thing in the world is watching a cow trying to herd her own baby calf that is running all over the field. Saw it this morning.

Excess Scholarships and Grants - Making it flow to line 7

I'm eating way too many carbs. -
Yep, the old "regular and continuous" problem. Sort of like these clients test us "repeatedly and horrifically". After this day, I think it would be worth it to just put Crank on payroll.
-
Crank, your avatar over there. Are you available to kill some clients? Not sure if I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, been a long day. My apologies if you're not into that line of work. Then again, you could get away with putting the income on line 21, I think.

Excess Scholarships and Grants - Making it flow to line 7

I don't know, but I'm thinking about warm Corona, and I don't even drink. It's that kind of day... -
This happens to me, and I don't know why. Somehow, the long Sch SE gets chosen, I don't know who sneaks in here and does that. My clients can't handle the long Sch SE, I have learned the hard way. It freaks them out. Always saves them a dollar, but nooooo, I gotta print stuff over to avoid the whole conversation. Three more Saturdays, Guys.

Well, yes it is. Not as much fiber, but loud and pointless will get you places. -
God love you, Judy.

I might have to kill a couple of clients...

Hey, at least I was on the right worksheet. I'm still a firecracker, right? -
No problems with software here. Just clients. Standalone, Windows 7 Pro.

Tom, I don't think the excess flows, and I don't why the program is giving her credit, either. On getting the excess to line 7, you can right click Form 1040, line 7, and pick the second option, there is a pre-printed list of line descriptions. I don't think "Excess Scholarships / Grants" is on there, but there are blank blue lines to write it in. -
This is one of the reasons I don't think I could handle doing returns while the client is there. I started one last night, the guy said when he dropped off (on the 18th), "I think everything is there," which is the most common parting shot I hear, and frequently incorrect, but for this couple, practically NOTHING was there. No SSA-1099's, no medical expense (and they have a TON), no contributions (and they give). I called and left a detailed message about what they usually have, but you don't know what you don't know. It's a slog with clients like this. I can't get mad at these folks; they are elderly and not in good health. But returns like this DRAIN you.

I would just tell them in person. And if they slapped me or spit on me, oh well, there might be an additional fee. I got a feeling they are going to bail. Might as well suffer a little. And you know I'm kidding, right? But really I'd just explain, "Hey, I'm not charging you enough, and if you can find someone to do your return for less, no hard feelings." Maybe rub some onion on your hands and wipe your eyes so a tear rolls down.

Huge Sch B...do I need to enter all 1400 transactions?
RitaB replied to Janitor Bob's topic in General Chat
No, I'm not a pineapple, but I am incredibly reasonable with fees. I charged him $425 for Sch A, Sch B, Sch D, 8949 with 14 entries, Sch F, 4562, AMT, 1116, 8283 with 4 entries, 8959 (which ATX did for me and I still don't know how they knew the amount withheld for MC AND that it was off $85, but thanks), TN return. He whined a little cause the CPA in Nashville charged him $465 last year and he found two mistakes. Things are different here. He's pretty sharp (except about the financial advisor); he might use my return and do it himself next year if I charge him the correct fee. I have two kids in college and zero help from their dad. I need him. Oh, yeah, he actually took pictures of the hay he sold, had bills of sale, took pictures of the stuff he donated. He's more anal about record keeping than I am. That's saying a lot. Plus he lives two miles from me and said next time I need help with a cow and my boys are gone, call him.
