I like clients that know nothing, hand the forms over, and scram. Also like the smart clients who ask questions. Not partial to the clients who think they are smarter than they are and have to know things like, "OMG, why did you put $500,000 on line 1 of 4562 and 2,000,000 on line 3???? OMG." Also becoming increasingly irritated with clients who don't bring me everything first shot. I just escaped to get fried pickles at Sonic and an ice cream cone at McDonalds. I am eating my feelings, and they taste great.

And the first one that picked up today. Owed because of taking an early retirement withdrawal. Client: "But they were supposed to hold out the tax." Me: "Yes, like I said when I called you February 28, they held out 18.91%. The penalty you owe is 10%, and the tax on this is 25%." Client: "Well, they were supposed to hold out 20%." Crickets again. I'm not even trying with these people.

"You went up $5 on my return." Crickets.

No, I don't have THAT client (currently), but I do have a few of THIS client: Got the return done mid February and they are just now picking up because they owe. So I get to recreate the e-file, and I know that's a minor issue, but still a PITA. Also, love the guy with two 20 page 1099's who thinks I just need the first page. Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I AM on a need to know basis, and I need to know the details of your sales. MsTabbyKats, I also have gotten a few stinkers over the years because "friends" sent them to me. One person in particular has sent me nothing but trouble. When they drop his name, I'm not taking new clients.

Good grief. I'd be grinding my teeth, too. I don't know what you tell THAT guy. If you tell him computer error, he'll want you to do the returns by hand and run a tape! Holy missing crap, People! Every other one I touch has stuff missing. Why not give me the entire 17 pages of your 1099? They really don't know what you made on your mutual funds if I don't tell them. Really, remember that letter you got when you tried to do this yourself? Same thing then, too.

Wow. What happens in Vegas never happens to me. -
Great time to get a notice, eh?

I have no idea. But, it sure was nice not to have to talk to anybody. Except myself.

Michael, you are mean as a snake. Kudos to you.

I had to turn on the air yesterday! I hate winter so much, I had a little five minute party, it was so nice outside. Hang in there, glad you got "ahold" of someone who helped! Grandpa is no slouch if he went to Vandy. It's gonna be fine. I still wish they'd just let people mail a check. I mean, honestly...

Yankee Rita, my guy here who I'm finishing up is letting me enter his bank info and use direct debit. When I pretend he is using ACH, ATX letter says: "I have prepared your 2013 Tennessee INC-250 individual income tax return based on the information you provided. The return will be e-filed and a copy is enclosed for your records and review. As requested, your Tennessee INC-250 tax payment will be processed through the use of ACH Credit. The net payment is $319." Like I would be the one doing it. Honestly, I can't imagine my clients doing it themselves. Perish the thought. I mean, really, perish it. But I would assume they have until 4/15 and you e-file when you want to, between calls and people dropping in to see if you have in secrets about avoiding tax and penalty on early retirement withdrawals that Turbo Tax doesn't know. Oh, wait, that's me. Link to TN website: http://tn.gov/revenue/onlinefiling/filereturn.shtml I love you, Dixie Rita

I went home at 10:30 and stared at the TV for 45 minutes. Then I turned it on. Got me good.

Agree. Texting and emailing save me time. I also like that you have the response in writing. I still flap my yak when they drop off and pick up, and I like that, too. I have noticed that tech savvy clients are not any smarter than those who are not, BTW. And sometimes they are little too big for their britches, as we say around here, and are sadly lacking on common sense, so I like being able to show them in black and white what they said. Especially when they misuse "your", as in "your the best". -
Well, I hope the penalty is not too bad because I am having my clients mail the return with a check. That's the path of least resistance for me, and I'll deal with the consequences later. Guess I can feel my oats, too. I am not the only one doing that, and I predict next year we will see a TN250-V. Mumble, mumble, curse, mumble.

We feel your pain. And I like that word "liaison". I might have called him something less appropriate after 1/2 a pitcher of Margaritas. Or just on principle. In defense of alcohol, I have done plenty of stupid things while I was completely sober.

Caller: "How's my return looking?" 10.3: This is an abomination, and thou shalt refer to 10.1. -
I have been keeping my sadness about those glue balls pent up inside this year so it can fester quietly. But, now I have to let it out: Gummy balls from Form SSA-1099 really slow down my rolling chair. WTF. (Well, that's fantastic.)

Maybe I should have qualified the original post to say "people with no contact information are killing ME." Wait, I think there are clauses in the 10 commandments. Yes, there they are: 10.1: "Thou shalt be allowed to kill those with inadequate contact information." 10.2: "Thou shalt not disconnect thy land line and answering machine if thou dost not answer thy cell phone or set up thy voice mail." -
