  1. There is always one day every year when I know that I am officially blown away, and there will be no let up till mid March. Today was that day. I have accomplished zero work today, but I have talked and laughed and caught up with the greatest folks on earth. Can't believe they all came today. Best. Day. Ever. Started with the widow who just received 8k life insurance proceeds from her husband who died seven years ago. She had no idea he even had a policy. She's getting out of her little apartment and buying a little house. Good stuff.
  2. Hahaha, you are gold! My tech guy hates me, too. The other day he was here, and I was drinking coffee. I said, "Hey, I just installed java."
  3. Oh, you mean the Audited Financial Statement that I slaved over and you never paid me for because you didn't need it? That one? And it might go downhill from there. Do you have the email request from him that he sent you in 2013? That thing would receive new life. Brother, I'm healed. Either way, you have the request today, and I'd be replying with an invoice, and "Sure, I just need to be paid or it's not a valid Financial Statement cause it has to be a compensated auditor, you know, my hands are tied. (I just made that up and sometimes it's appropriate to do that.)
  4. Yes. Yes, we are.
  5. Yes, this is the problem right here. Friend calls me at 6:30 last night, I ignore her and call on the drive home. She's on Husband # 4, who left in October, can I file HOH (NOOOOOOOO) and Husband # 2 won't let me claim Kid # 3 (it's his year and he raised all three of your kids, two of whom are not his, while you stayed home). Would it be terrible of me to hit send with Kid # 3 on there? Me: YESSSSS. Cricket sounds. I hope she divorces me.
  6. And it's a good lesson for them to pay for their impatience. Two tax returns for you. Life lesson for them. Win / win.
  7. You win. I am rolling in the floor.
  8. There is nothing worse than a surprise speaker phone encounter. (Y'all know I'm not the person you want to put on speaker phone, right?) Ron, you are too good for this world.
  9. I like the new input tab for Form 8283. Don't ask me why it's been a long day lay off. Just kidding. Hugs.
  10. My research indicates that we are really happy to have you back, too.
  11. OK, now I think my lack of pulling was alright as the option that applies to her is not listed, and I get a red error message if I fill in name and SSN and leave the exemption blank. So I guess we'll see. This is Science, y'all!
  12. Welcome, Elizabeth. Here is a link to an IRS webinar you might also find helpful: http://www.irsvideos.gov/2014ACAIndividualsFamilysSmallBusinesses/
  13. I have a pen and a phone. Oh, wait, that doesn't work for us.
  14. You know what I did on my single lady with no insurance but below the filing threshold? Checked the box on 8965 but didn't pull down her name and SSN right below it. Yep. Even though they are on the top of the page, and she's the only one on the return. What do you wanna bet her refund gets delayed?
  15. And we know how the old honor system works. Nobody fails to report cash. Nobody finagles around trying to maximize EIC. Nobody overstates the value of their rejected yard sale crap that they donated to Goodwill. Everybody keeps a mileage log. C'mon, it'll be great.

Here is another one: http://www.theihcc.com/en/communities/policy_legislation/guidelines-for-using-reimbursement-arrangements-un_hua4t5gc.html I still am hoping what Gail pointed out will save me here: "the [ACA] penalty does not apply to a plan that has only one participating employee". That would sure solve my problem, and a trusted person on another board is certain that applies to my situation here with one FT employee. I hope so. You know when something changes and it increases a person's tax liability, you're the bad guy, and you must be wrong.
  17. I am so thankful for you guys.

IRS is gonna offer "additional guidance". When, I don't know. http://www.usiaffinityex.com/pba-ind/medical/health-care-reform/content/downloadables/USIA-exchange/news/July_2014_HCR_Article.pdf
  19. Knock yourself out, John. And if you see my slacker client, knock him out, too.

Exactly. I still don't know what to do, and I will look for more "guidance". And maybe a nice candy bar as big as my head.
  21. Everybody but that guy wanting to "discuss" was great. He's late on every sales tax return, late to pay me, then wants to know what exactly counts as a business expense. Uh, what you actually pay for a business purpose. For example, my fees, oh, here's another copy of the statement I gave you last week, this will count for 2015, thank you.

Well, I looked up Notice 2013-54, and I gotta say, I am not smart enough to understand that notice. I did find somebody at Forbes that chewed it up and spit it out for me: http://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonyn...miums-in-2014/ "Mind you: the tax law didn’t change. It’s the insurance laws that changed." And I am sitting here with the voices in my head saying, "I can barely keep up with ONE of those..." and then it's just some whimpering.
  23. "I just want to sit down with you and discuss some things." It's just part of being on the tax season struggle bus that people start businesses in June and want to "discuss" January - April, isn't it? Every. Year.

    ACA Prep Fees

I just did a return for a lady who had no insurance but was under the filing threshold. She has been my client for ten years. I didn't charge her anything to check that box on Form 8965. I feel fine with that. It's best for me to play it by ear. Just like I don't have a set fee for Schedule C. It's all relative. Now, when somebody comes in here with a new $40,000 pickup and gets $5,000 EIC I feel fine changing it up.
