  1. Every time I print a Form 8879 (which is every time), an unwanted page prints first with a tiny "(HTA)" in the upper left corner. Alright, I know in the big scheme of things, this is not newsworthy. And, I just grab it and feed it thru, printing on the other side. But, I am dying to know, it this happening to others? Is it ATX?
  2. Or long. Just had a church friend want me to "help" on their return. I did it for $75 last year. I told her I charge $100 to "help".
  3. Happens to the best of us!

    Paper

I try to use 22 lb, as with lighter weight those little rascals try to go thru two or three sheets at a time. I'm sure it's my printer.
  5. To add automatically, in Return Manager, try "Preferences" then "Select Forms". Within a return, go up there to "Forms" then "Client Letter". Happy Friday.
  6. Yes, let's "promote to article"! :spaz:
  7. You will like this, stole it from another forum:
  8. Great, I just gave one of my flakes a 30-page return to MAIL. Oh, and my toner light is on now. Great. I really MUST start reading these Quick Alerts.
  9. I called Tech Support and the nice young man attempted to fix a ".NET Framework" problem with Windows XP. He was not successful, and I called my local IT guy, who reinstalled Windows XP. That's my understanding of it, anyway. LOL.
  10. The program closes when I attempt to open a tax return. Anybody know what's going on? Could this not happen in June?
  11. I don't hear it clicking. Do you? Do you hear it clicking? No! Hahahahaha!
  12. That's great, Bonnie! Been thinking I need to see the Grand Canyon one of these days. Maybe he will be my ride out there!
  13. "Therapeutic massage medical deduction?" Boy, I hope so... Just kidding, I will do some looking. But I do have this crick in my neck...
  14. Yeah, and then that old codger makes it to 91 just to spite you.
  15. People are so unreliable. I have learned that when I call to tell folks their return is ready, I pay absolutely no attention to when they say they are gonna pick up. I don't ask them when they're coming; I don't care when they're coming. Why they think they have to tell me a time is beyond me. Then 3/4 of them don't come at that time. Then, I had the one lady who called about four times to say she would have to come at another time for whatever reason. I told her the first time whenever you come is fine; don't worry about it. Oh, sorry, I was rambling again. :(

    NT - Really?

I've had three calls and one "drop-in" in the past two business days from people who picked up their returns and signed Form 8879 weeks ago. Apparently, they are now reading their cover letters (which say "we'll e-file when you give us 8879") because they are about to mail 1040-V and checks. They are frantic, "Is there something I have to sign and give you?!"
  17. Hahaha - I was thinking earlier: Why in the WORLD does this girl think a three ring binder with sleeves that hold these forms is helpful?
  18. That was a hoot! Thanks!
  19. The profits would have to be subject to SE tax (not passive income of limited partner). Here is a good article, forgive me, I know it's not "THE CODE" but I think this will help. http://taxes.about.com/od/deductionscredits/qt/healthinsurance.htm
  20. Well, here's the scoop, straight from the horse's mouth: "Oh, yeah, I know it's pre-tax, but I figured since it's on my wife, who is self-employed, I could deduct it as self-employed health insurance." OH. MY. GAWD. Edit: Wait a minute. I realize why the double-dipping makes sense to this man. His wife is a hairdresser. It took five years for me to convince her that she can't deduct the FMV of a "do-over". That explains a lot.
  21. The instructions sound to me like Box 14 is for whatever you feel like putting in there: Box 14Other. If you included 100% of a vehicle's annual lease value in the employee's income, it also must be reported here or on a separate statement to your employee. You also may use this box for any other information that you want to give to your employee. Label each item. Examples include state disability insurance taxes withheld, union dues, uniform payments, health insurance premiums deducted, nontaxable income, educational assistance payments, or a member of the clergy's parsonage allowance and utilities. In addition, you may enter the following contributions to a pension plan: (a) nonelective employer contributions made on behalf of an employee, voluntary after-tax contributions (but not designated Roth contributions) that are deducted from an employee's pay, © required employee contributions, and (d) employer matching contributions. I don't know, but I want to be sure before I deduct $10,400 on Sch A. BTW, I have a guy in his 80's who always has Code 1 (early distribuion) on his 1099-R. And, I am less confident in government agencies than private agencies.
  22. Yeah, I left him a message earlier today. Of course, if he is just now getting me his stuff, I don't expect a return call anytime today... BTW, as God is my witness, the next person who says to me, "Bet you are getting busy, huh?" is leaving here on a stretcher.
  23. Yeah, I found that one, too! Hahahahaha Old Jack, I don't doubt that it's Health Insurance. I just doubt that it's in Box 1 of the W-2. Sorry, I expected you guys to read my mind up there. I think the client does not understand that those premiums have been paid with pre-tax dollars, and to now deduct on Sch A would be incorrect. What Randall said.
  24. Thanks for the reply, may I ask specifically what you searched for? I did Google searches for "DDNTB", "Box 14 DDNTB", and "W-2 Box 14" before I posted the original question, and really didn't get too far. When I was a teacher, I had that on my W-2, and I THINK it was for (Pre-Tax) Medical Flexible Spending Account. That's been 17 years ago, but I think that's right. I think I'll call the Finance Dept tomorrow.
  25. What do you think "DDNTB" stands for? Client says it's Health Insurance Premiums he paid out of pocket. Sounds fishy to me. The employer is the county finance department.
