Well, me and my four clients for whom I have not created e-files want it.
-
I keep looking for an easy way to tell which returns are NOT in the e-file Manager. Say for example, I have 150 in the Return Manager and 140 in the e-file Manager, is there an easy way to find the 10 not in the e-file manager?

Praying for Brian. You too, Randall.

Does the person signing the Form 1310 need to also sign Form 1040, with an edit on "Your Signature" to something like, "Lucy Goosie, Personal Representative"?

clergy tax return - previously prepared by attorney
RitaB replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
Don't forget about the Housing Allowance. It is subject to SS/MC tax. Any excess is also subject to FiT. As J. Ron said, the clergy worksheets are your best friend there. -
Hmm. I just noticed the message on the 1040-V: "This form must be printed on 24 lb OCR White Bond paper." You don't say... Well, guess I am here to confess that I have not been in compliance with that particular requirement. People are using that OCD as a crutch these days, if you ask me. And, is that the race card, too?

Speaking of death and taxes, don't you love it when you tell that long-time client that you will do Little Junior's tax return free gratis? Then that little brat had eight jobs, and none of the employers are in the payroll manager?
-
Well, I just read in the paper that one of my clients who has already filed for 2011, died 2/24/12, so I think not. Also, I am fairly certain I had a widow whose spouse died early in 2011, and I was able to e-file their 2010 return. I'm pretty sure you can e-file both years. And, I love the thread title "death and e-file". They come to everyone sooner or later, huh?

Thanks, I am doing that now. I haven't defrug in forever. :o

In dog years, it's probably already dead. I decided I'd look into the upgrade during one of those e-file creations from $%&&. I don't know nuttin bout hardware, but I found that I have 111 GB of space, and 47 is used. Oh, and this: AMD Sempron™ 2300+; 1.58 GHz, 1.48 GB of RAM. I can barely use the software, so if you tell me my computer is a dog, I have no choice but to believe you. I do have close to 400 clients. Have done 157 returns this year.

I don't know, it's just kinda one of those years. For example, last week, I had already e-filed two clergy returns, then the 3rd one I did, I got that message about clergy worksheets not being approved. Somehow, it went away after I closed the return and re-opened it. I sometimes picture the tax gods / software gods laughing at me. And, have mercy, I did a partnership return, and it took longer to watch the software work to save it than it did for me to do it. And, if you have to re-create the e-file, might as well get up and get a snack. Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.

Well, on this return, the widow is due a refund, to be directly deposited. Thie thing is, I had the home number of the deceased husband checked, and had a cell number for the widow in there on her side, but I was unable to create the e-file until I entered a number for the husband's work. I have done these people's returns for 18 years. This is the first year I've seen that message. I was not really complaining about a number being required, but about having to enter a work number before I managed to get the e-file created. Epic waste of time. Neither of them had anything except retirement income, either. I can't figure why the home number wasn't sufficient.
-
Yep. Me too. The X marked the spot.

That message about entering a valid 10-digit phone number is what is going to send me over the edge. For the one I'm on right now, the e-file would not create until I entered the deceased filer's work number. I do believe we will have enjoyable work to do in heaven, but surely the phone company will not be needed up there.
-
Eli, were you able to create the AL-NR e-file? I have one and I get a message that the forms are not approved yet.
-
Nevermind on that question. I was able to create it 3rd time I tried.
-
Two things. 1) I was able to transmit two clergy returns Tuesday. Today, I try to create e-file for a minister, and it has that message again about clergy worksheets not approved for filing. What about you all? 2) I am unable to print Forms 1040-ES unless I print one voucher at a time. Can you all print them when you print the return? Tried to submit e-mail to ATX, got a run-time error. Thank you and may you have a stupendous day.

I don't know what it is this year, but my clients are unruly!

Haha that would be me. And, my lady up there that I shared about, you know - Vegas Gal, mailed her 8879 and a check. Got it today. Yay, guess I may see her again after all. -
I knew I shoulda had speakers in 1999. Thought you guys were talkin about Frosted Flakes for a minute there.

Sorry, I know this is not funny, but I had a vision of Beavis going, "He said frocking, huhuhuhuhuhu." My own sad story, gal came in, in a big ole hurry, I get her return done in about three days, beating the usual time for the past five years I've done her return. Call her. Had to leave message. No response. Call her again two days later. No response. Call her the third time, and she picks up and says, "Well, you close at 4, I am used to accountants working 24 hours a day, I don't know when I am going be able to get there." Me: It is 5:30, I am here, come get your return. Snippy: I'm in Vegas. Me: As in Las Vegas? Nevada? When will you be back? Snippy: Friday night. Me: I will be here Saturday, as always, call me and I'll unlock the door. Snippy: I have to work Saturday. I mailed it to her Chattanooga, TN address, she has not returned the 8879, nor has she paid me. I'm sure she has used my return and filed it herself. Hope I never see her again. -
Hey, Terry O, come back. You need the above post. It changed my life.
-
Yes, I knew that, and it is not the same as the number as on the signed 8879. But it's all good, apparently. Sa-weet!
-
Well, I have wondered about what kind of trouble I'd be in if IRS came to look at my 8879's, too. Figured I'd act dumb. Comes easy for me. Good to know nobody cares.
-
OK, I went to "Customize Forms" and dragged the bottom of row 82 up to the bottom of row 81. (It wouldn't let me delete the cell, so in essence, I made the whole row disappear.) Printed fine. Hope that "(HTA)" is not vitally important, and my e-files are not rejected... If nobody cares about DCN's jiving, surely I won't get sent to the Cross-Bar Motel for this.
-
Got an email from ATX suggesting it may be that our printer settings need adjusting. They were fine last year. Take a look at a 2010 Form 8879. "(HTA)" is supposed to be on the bottom of the 8879. I guess this year it is in "no man's land" to our printers and going to a new page. Maybe there is one more line on that form now. Will look around for a way to change the margins or something.
