  1. It would not have helped. I did load it in November and there was nothing to see. I assumed because Congress could not get their act together, either.
  2. I hate any kind of sales call.
  3. Scratch that.
  4. Yeah, I have done that. It's still incredibly different to me. Seems less efficient (than ATX2011, but nothing is less efficient than 2012), but I am obviously not familiar with Drake, and it's gonna take a while. I wish I was learning this in November. And, I should have said support is a thousand times nicer and more professional than ATX. The jury is out on whether they all know how the software works. I looked at everything I could think of because I wanted to delete a C-EZ. Support tried to get me to suppress all EZ's globally, she didn't know this, but that means always use C instead of C-EZ, 2106 instead of 2106-EZ, etc. I told her, no, we just wanna delete this one Sch C-EZ from this one return. So then she has me suppress C-EZ in the return. Now I have a C to delete. Puts me on hold, terrible music, while somebody tells her how to do it. You would think this has come up before. I honestly thought she was gonna tell me to put a dollar for income and not worry about deleting it. But she was nice. And honestly, I'm not sure I would have been nice to me.
  5. Isn't it pitiful that this is what it has come to? We are celebrating that nothing weird happened? This would be funny if we weren't all struggling for dear life. For me, boxes didn't have to be checked so many times to stick, not tried printing yet. Gotta load the program again to do that. Cause, you know they encountered a problem and needed to close. And stuff.
  6. Yes, I thought about that, and it may be exactly what I do. Like I said, I may wait to set up new computer till after tax season. If I don't have a breakdown, I will wait and call the geek, no doubt about. I really did not need the computer yet. I read too much and thought too much. Even though I knew it was not my computer, I had that nagging doubt. It may also turn out that I didn't need Drake, either, who knows? I know this is not the time to be dinking around switching software and computers. Just really wanted to hear somebody say, "Yes, Microsoft is not lying, and all the videos on how to do it were not put out there cause people got tired of watching 'Gangnam Style'".
  7. Yes, I know they are different operating systems. XP and 7. Agree, I am a novice. Probably should explain that I use Peachtree, MS Works, MS Office, ATX, Drake. Yes, I shelled $1500 to get Drake, am slow as smoke off cow$%^& figuring it out. Customer service and support are a thousand times better than ATX, but if your program works, that's not an issue. Love ATX2011, not loving Drake yet, but I've had it 12 hours and I slept thru five of them. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4503 http://www.google.com/search?q=windows+easy+transfer+xp+to+7+you+tube&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ADFA_enUS454
  8. I'm getting a new computer in the next couple weeks, I may not set it up till after tax season. If I need to set it up now, can I use Windows Easy Transfer and do it myself? I understand I have to download Easy Transfer to the XP computer. It's already on the 7 computer. I understand I have to install all the programs and that it's really copying files (not transfering), they'll be on both computers. Stop laughing. And I don't need any, "If you have to ask..." I would NEVER entertain the thought of trying it myself if I had not already lost three weeks of time. We have one computer guy in this town, and we are lucky to have him. This is not about saving money on hiring a professional, it's about saving time. He will keep the computers for at least a day. I get that. Just like I am not about to call somebody to pick up 30 minutes after they drop off. I am not about to ask him to work on Sunday, which is my day off, and probably his. He is worth what he charges, that is not the point. If I were not in a pickle because of other issues it wouldn't matter.
  9. Yes, I would love to know as well. Although it is too late, as I just faxed my order form to Drake. No idea how hard it will be, but when I looked at ATX Blog and they said 12.7 is tomorrow and addresses printing only, and the next update will be 2/15/13, that was my breaking point.
  10. I am holding out for 12.7 or probably Saturday, whichever comes first. At my firm (me), the ratio of returns to preparer is 393 to 1. I have been able to do 29% of the volume I did last year at this time. At this rate, if 71% of my clients agree to get extensions, and if I can continue working these hours, I will finish up 2012 on or about New Year's Eve. I think I can learn new software, and even enter all these mile-long depreciation schedules from scratch by 4th of July, tops. I think others are just a little slower than last year, and yes, I would stay the course if that were the case. I just don't have time for this. I was putting out hay at 9:30 last night, and my cows are volunteering to come clean the office and answer the phone. I am also the janitor and secretary here. They can't push the buttons to put people on hold, and they spill a lot of stuff.
  11. I haven't customized, either. Neither on install nor after. Oh, I tried. The margins on the client letter, and the font size, drive me nuts. I can't get the "edit" button to light up. So I gave up on that and am putting out letters that make me cringe, but only 1/3 as many as last year, so there's that silver lining. Honestly, I can live without the letter, just give me a tax return. And the letter regrets are nothing compared to the spooling and haunted boxes (won't stay checked). And yesterday was the most crashing - everytime I had to rcreate an e-file (which was everytime I worked on a return). Bought some more RAM. Peachtree, Excel, and Facebook are a little faster. But they weren't slow. Only thing faster in ATX is the pop up saying CCH encountered a problem. Yes, I would say they have...
  12. Take a break and smile. While that thing takes twenty minutes to print. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYLsyNBnE5M
  13. Ah, now we're getting somewhere. Are you saying you have two computers and a fresh install on both?
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vldyk9K-UuE
  15. Well, I think a reasonable person could expect a brand new model to make it off the lot.
  16. I also use auto-save. I have it set on five minutes, too. Actually, I think that's the default. At least when it crashes everything is still there.
  17. I don't really understand the gigs, rams, and ravens, but I'm feeling pretty stupid to have shelled out $1336.85 for 20. lol.
  18. I don't prepare returns while the clients wait, so they don't know about my "challenges" yet. They will start calling soon to see if I forgot about them. My tax return income YTD is 29% what it was at this point last year. The returns are here, stacked up, and waiting. Oh, and pity the fool who doesn't have everything just right when she clicks "Create e-file".
  19. Hahahahaha, Monday my cursor was stuck. I almost cried, then it occured to me that maybe the mouse batteries were dead. Sure enough. My first hardware move was a winner. I was astonished at the difference.
  20. Hahahaha, this is what I have been thinking, but didn't want to get my lunch eaten. So, even though I have the ATX recommended specs, I ordered a computer, will spend a lot of money and time getting it all settled in, and be glad that little chore is done, cause I would eventually need a new computer. Maybe. Eventually. In a few years. Nuclear powerplant / missile trajectory. Very funny. I love it. Yes, all I want is a stupid tax return. LOL.
  21. Yeah, I knew this. Did you think I didn't? lol
  22. Hahahaha, this is the one thing that has worked correctly for me and been a problem for someone else. And I am sitting here second guessing myself now, imagining random bank numbers being entered by little demons during the 30 minute print cycle.

    Printing

I tried both. Neither helped, but thank you, I will take all the tips I can get. May 12.6 be magic for everyone.
  24. I disabled MSE, rebooted, but I still have the problems. Thanks, anyway!
  25. Well, I had no idea there was an ATX TV! What would I do without you people? Not watch ATX, TV for one thing.
