On the other Board, I read that it takes two weeks or more. Better check carefully on that factor. Makes them not an option for me.

I am probably over simplifying this horrific situation we are in, and I am now past the "Appalled" and "Something Has To Be Done" stages, and in the "Oh Dear God Help Me Work 24 Hours A Day" stage, but my opinion is forget tech support and search the two ATX Boards for answers. Let's face it, if tech support had the answers, we wouldn't be in this mess. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Jack said his was working, in #19 of the thread below, you might send him a personal message. I have never used import, ever. I would help if I could. Best wishes!

Beg pardon? Do you mean a forms update? Cause I think I am still waiting patiently on 12.8. Actually, print spooling did improve for me on 12.7, crashing increased, deleting the Assets Folder and reinstalling forms helped with that, and I am able to go at about 50% now. Opening returns is still a good time to clean or make a sandwich or stare at the computer screen. At this rate, I run out of time, not clients. Half my clients are not going to want extensions. Nothing personal against me or anything. Business is business.

why is it when you call atx it takes 2+ hours to answer?
RitaB replied to ATS's topic in General Chat
I just read on the other forum where that happened to somebody else, and they solved it that way, too. Petty much. Can't wait til I get to work and see if this happens to me as well. Sigh. I think we would all be dead in the water if not for these tax boards. Thanks for the tip, Tom! -

No, you are not deleting assets in a tax return, but rather the ATX folder that contains forms. In essence, this deletes all your forms, you reboot computer, open the software, make a sandwich while it loads, then click the red update. You will load all new forms. You can probably take a nap while they update. It's a fix to get rid of corrupted forms. Maribeth gave the directions above, and here is a link to a thread on the other forum that contains the directions, too. https://community.atxinc.com/forums/thread/115888.aspx -
Hey, I am glad to hear someone besides me doesn't click with Drake. I thought I was a freak of nature. Well, that may be true, but for other reasons. Did not know I would need to keep deleting Assets Folder, thanks much, new best friend! Can you just see next year being fabulous? I can. If we live that long.

Next person who says, "Bet you are gettin busy, huh?" may die.

I couldn't use it. I'm sure it's me not them. If it were November I might feel differently. This is not my kind of software, and I knew I'd never renew, so I decided to pray more fervently for ATX and if I have to buy other software, make sure I try out the 2011 version first. So, I'm still crashing anytime I have to re-create an e-file, and I've done everything I can think of to fool the program, like going to Sch A and re-entering something, to hopefully make it think it's my first attempt. No luck. But, I'm not crashing all the other times I was crashing, soooooo...

I did that this morning, too, and am cautiously optimistic. That's why I posted the link, but didn't want to get anybody's hopes up in case it didn't work. Not been able to work any because people have been dropping off and chewing the fat. I'm about to get started... Thanks, Maribeth, for the update. We are all in this together, and I'm so glad to have you all!

Ok, tell us how to check that, and forgive my ignorance. Or just tell us how to check that and call me an idiot. I don't care as long as something helps. Hahaha.

Hey, my friends, I am really pulling for you! (And me!) Here is a thread from the official forum that may have the answer you need. I sure hope so! Blessings, everybody! https://community.atxinc.com/forums/thread/115888.aspx

You all might find something on the thread below from the official forum. Godspeed, and I feel for you, going thru stuff here as well. Exhausted. https://community.atxinc.com/forums/thread/115888.aspx

I know - scary, isn't it? Especially considering our other issues of late.

Marie, I found this, hope it helps: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc705.html

Marie, I saw a thread on the official board that may help you, specifically the post by Lynette. https://community.atxinc.com/forums/2/118034/ShowThread.aspx

I love it! I love it for the software it wants to be. I love it for the software it almost is. -- Adapted from Jerry Maquire.

Thanks for the info. Can you estimate how long it took you "catch on to the format," and was it vastly different than ATX? Forms entry, right? (And not pretend forms entry, lol.) Did bank numbers (for client direct deposit) convert for you? Are you working faster than ATX2011?
-
August and Ron, did you do anything besides install updates? Delete any files? Tell antivirus to ignore any files? Scan for malware? Anything like that?
-
Woah dere, I don't even intend to reinstall, much less insist, just thinking how it should be handled to avoid losing completed returns. Wouldn't backup and restore do the trick? I'm glad your import and export are working fine. But you GOTTA admit that is no indication that everybody's is, right? Crap, I am printing one page at a time if I have to get a return outta there. Hahahaha, I see that smile. If it makes you feel better, I hated Drake. And I hope to high heavens we ALL get to where we can prepare returns efficiently with this software. You have no idea how much I want ATX2012 to be a star. At the top of my want list.

I am searching for Plan B. I notice on the ProSeries site, the program is described as being appropriate for "simple 1040's". What does that even mean? Is that a function of the number of schedules, the number of entries on a particular schedule, the absence of certain schedules? Can somebody who has used the software give me the criteria for a non-simple 1040?
-
Wow, it stinks that you lost all that. If you had backed up to a desktop folder (I'm thinking about what if I have to do this), or CD, could you have then restored? I may be assuming too much to think this program backs up. Lol. And I have not even tried it because it is taking every ounce of energy just to spit out 1/3 of the returns I should have done.
-
Yes, mine is crashing more. I had to print a semi-meaty return one page at a time to finally get it out of there.
-
We hate you. Just kidding. Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your computer specs? Thank you.

No, it does not seem kosher, but I think IRS will turn around and give the pastor EIC if you don't. I hate when they do that. See the second link. (Obviously, be sure and use the lower of actual expenses, FRV plus utilities, and $30,000 for the HA). http://nccumc.org/treasurer/files/housingallowanceqa.pdf http://www.freechurchaccounting.com/do-you-include-a-housing-allowance-when-calculating-for-earned-income-credit.html http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discussion:Pastors-housing_allowance-_and_EIC
