  4. I lean towards reimbursment. It makes things cleaner and the partners do not have to mess with it on their personal returns. taxbilly
  5. I would report it on the client's personal return. That way it will be matched and there probably isn't a gain anyway. taxbilly
  6. Most of my clients just give them to me intact but some do get frustrated when they try to open them up themselves. taxbilly

    IRS audit

I requested an audit be switched from the Boca Raton office (about 150 miles south of me) to one in my area. Took two years before they contacted me about it. I said I would provide documentation so that the auditor could close out the account quickly if he didn't want to go through the trouble of an office audit. He agreed, I submitted the info and he made it a no change audit. taxbilly

    IRS audit

As it says in this publication on page 2, you have a right to choose a time and place convenient for you. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1.pdf I worked for HRB for six years and represented many clients before the IRS in that time because I was the only Enrolled Agent they had. I have been in my own business for over thirty years and have represented hundreds of clients. I have never had a problem rescheduling an audit. What you should do is contact the auditor's supervisor and tell him of your problem. Don't worry about the agent. You will handle this in a professional manner and his/her supervisor will probably want to know from the agent why a change of time and/or location wasn't immediately granted. taxbilly

  24. There are different kinds of assisted living: 1) Is it an apartment where she can do her own cooking, etc and meals are served in the dining room (usually twice a day) and medical staff is available 24 hours a day? 2) Is it akin to a nursing home where one fee per month includes all the basic needs which consist of meals, everyday activities such as bathing, etc and nursing care available 24 hours a day? 1) would not be deductible 2) would be deductible taxbilly
  25. Have you read this? http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p583.pdf taxbilly
