Have you written your detailed explanation (as required by Form 4736) as to why the estate tax is not being paid with the extension? I would follow the instructions to submit the extension by private (Fed Ex, etc) or USPS and obtain a receipt since the penalty for failure to file on time and pay are severe. taxbilly

  3. You're right Joel. I duplicated the return, discarded the tax planner, changed the entry for re tax and then added the tax planner and it did show the new RE figure included with the standad deduction. Mystery solved. taxbilly
  4. >>Contact information for all e-file providers is public information and posted on the IRS web site.<< But not e-mail addresses. taxbilly
  5. Sorry Wayne. I'm confusing myself. When I download the 1040 tax planner as a new return it shows $11,400. When I add it to the existing return (MFJ both under 65) it shows $12,400. taxbilly
  6. So Wayne shows 12400, KC shows 11700 and mine shows 11400. Something screwy here. taxbilly

  8. For those who do not use ATX, if you are a member of NSA you get it as part of your membership. taxbilly
  9. Can someone please validate what these old eyes are seeing before I call ATX support: The tax planner shows the 2009 standard deduction for MFJ as $12,400. I believe it should be $11,400. Also there is no line for the RE tax to be added. taxbilly

  14. >>and for anyone else who does not want go to the website when just reading the blogs the answer is only counts blood relatives<< Where does it say blood relatives? A sibling is a blood relative but not a relative for first time homebuyer credit purposes. taxbilly

  18. Good advice Margaret. I was also one of those "I am invincible" guys until I crashed and burned. Intend to stay on this side of the turf awhile longer. taxbilly

  20. I require my clients who are waiting for K-1s to drop off the rest of their stuff during the month of August. If they care not to then they are notified on September 1 to make other arrangements to have their taxes done. This is a client problem that will stay with the client and I refuse to have it transferred to me. taxbilly
  21. I would diplomatically ask them if they have a close relative (son, daughter, sibling) who has POA for each of them. With their permission you might want to talk with that person about health surrogate, living will, will, possible living trust. You don't want to be intrusive but you want to help them out if you can about necessary items such as beneficiaries, etc. I know from experience when my mother passed away in May (Alzheimers) that with the privacy policies in place it can be a problem if one has to deal with nursing homes and hospitals. This way you can also let that person know that you are available for possible advice or information they may need. taxbilly
