I do plenty of trust and estate 1041's but mostly MD & DE. Client wants me to do a VA trust income tax return. I'm going to read the instructions thoroughly, but any tips or cautions I should be aware of? The lawyer wants me to call them, and I'd like to sound like I know what I'm talking about.

I often get an error message when I login, but if I ignore that message and go to support.atxinc.com (or other bookmarked page), I am logged in.

If you have a Gmail account, you can just use Google Meet without having to install any software. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't vouch for it. https://meet.google.com

I used Kofax (formerly Nuance) to make the Drake form fillable. Unfortunately it skipped some areas and one page entirely, so I had to create some fields by hand, and they look a little rougher than the fields created automatically. When enter the business name on page 1, it will link to all the other business name fields on the Acceptable Use Policy page. You might have to abbreviate the name for it to fit and be readable on the Acceptable Use Policy page. Let me know if you find any bugs or changes you'd like to see. Enjoy! When will ATX release ATX2020? Did I miss something?

I recently uninstalled CCleaner because it was deleting my Firefox add-ons settings and driving me nuts. Windows has built in disk cleanup but it takes a long time to run. If you're really short on space, you can tell windows disk clean up to delete system files as well. It's a shame because CCleaner is very useful. I recently came across a computer with a hard drive nearly 90% full. I ran CCleaner and it got rid of years of windows update files and the disk ended up only about 20% full. You could put a shortcut to your temp folder on your desktop and open it up and delete all the files once a day. %temp% is all you need to have for the shortcut location. Some files might not be able to be deleted due to programs running, and that's ok. Also, set your browsers to delete cache when closed. It's personal preference to delete browsing history and other things, but you'll want to keep your cookies to save time logging into some sites.

But if they're just workstations, no ATX data is stored on them.

Happy and safe Thanksgiving! We'll be video conferencing with our family. And this year, I get to do all the cooking!

I've never heard that theft loss is not deductible and have deducted it a few times myself.

You could try upgrading your Win7 machines to Win8, if the computers are modern enough to do

I ended up at CyberPowerPC and they look really cool. I may just buy one someday. The battery company is https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/

The 18th was just a suggestion from ATX so they wouldn't be swamped on the 21st, and perhaps not be able to transmit them all.

With a battery backup, if you install the software that comes with it, you can program it to automatically shutdown properly when battery life is at 5% or whatever you choose. You have to use the USB cable from the battery to the computer. I only buy APC because they paid a claim on a computer that got fried during a lightning storm, no questions asked.

2020 1040 draft & reconciling stimulus payment
Abby Normal replied to Randall's topic in General Chat
Hopefully there will be a lookup site for these payments from the IRS like there was in the early 2000's. -
2020 filing deadline extended like 2019 (hopefully not)

Remember when we used to get brokerage 1099s on January 15th, or no later than January 31st? Those were the days. Now, thanks to "qualified" dividends and other unnecessary complexities, we get brokerage 1099s on March 15th, AT THE EARLIEST! With these complexities, April 15th is no longer viable. -

Then it's clear that Corduroy Frog should go to Excel Frog for a ribbiting conversation. <ba-dum tish> I'll see myself out.

My point is that when you or the IRS calculates the underpayment penalty, the payment is placed in the quarter in which it posted, regardless of which quarter you said it was for.
-
It seems obvious to me that 1040's are mailed to a bank drop box, where the bank deposits the check immediately, then forwards the rest to the IRS. But other returns are going directly to the IRS, and checks are taking 3 months to clear.

This particular drive is a hard drive, and it's almost 6 years old. All the other drives in the office are SSD's. Just ran a SMART test on the old HD and got these results: The overall fitness for this drive is 97%. The overall performance for this drive is 97%. Probably time to clone it to a new SSD, but it's all backed up as well. Plus it's not the OS drive and most of the data is not critical.
-
I wouldn't think that would matter since the IRS goes by the date payments are made. I'm surprised the EFTPS even asks for the quarter.

It's been awhile since I had one of these, but there are calculators if all else fails. https://nationalgiftannuity.org/gift-annuity-calculator Edit: Just tried that calculator and it doesn't give you what you need, but you could use it along with an amortization calculator to get NPV.

I see. [Checks my 3 TB drive and smiles.]

How slow is your internet? I think it took a minute or two to download. They're less than a GB.
