I only learned recently that these revocable trusts were supposed to file a perfunctory return noting that all the income was on the 1040, and I don't think the IRS really cares about returns that do not provide any revenue for the government. If any of the financial accounts have the trust's name on them, then surely there is an EIN. I would just start trust returns as of the date of death and consider whether it makes sense to elect to file the estate and trust as one, until the estate is closed.

I never had a chance to use this, but I always wanted to tell someone with whom I did not want to meet that I could see them "next Odin's Day but one."

I've used quite a few over the years, going all the way back to DOS. We currently use and like AnyDesk. It costs about $120/year. Demo several and see which ones seem to work best for you.

This should have be entered in QuickBooks (or some other accounting software) from the start. Entities need books.

NON RESIDENT WITHHOLDING TAX FROM SELLING PROPERTY IN MD
Abby Normal replied to KATHERINE's topic in General Chat
Resident states almost always tax everything, but DC should give credit for any tax paid to MD. -
State law may not agree, but if it was at least an LLC, the limited partner could avoid SE tax, but it would not be capital gains.

Whose name is the real estate held in? Also, if TP A is doing this regularly, does it rise to the level of a business (Sch C) for them?

You can delete all of your physical printers (not your PDF and other nonphysical printers) and windows will just re-add the one that is attached. I'd disconnect the printer cable, then when you reconnect, windows will detect and install.

Burying the IRS in more mail is counterproductive. Mail is always my last resort when communicating with the IRS. Fax is preferred. Times like this is when I miss the old EAR program (Electronic Account Resolution). We used to be able to handle IRS notices in as little as one day, and at most 3 days.

Go to control panel, devices and printers and delete the duplicate printer. Not even sure why it was added. Windows should have just used the original printer and not even notice the change, since it was identical.

NON RESIDENT WITHHOLDING TAX FROM SELLING PROPERTY IN MD
Abby Normal replied to KATHERINE's topic in General Chat
Here's the link for all the related MD forms. In the future, you can prevent/reduce the withholding if you can file the correct form about a month before settlement. Also, you can request a refund if you don't want to wait until you file the tax return for that year. -

You can always amend. I amended after not being able to settle an IRS notice, that we disagreed with, and the IRS sent a refund.

That's not what she or most people want, but who knows what we'll end up with... if anything. This battle has raged since the 90s, at least.
-
Yes, I'm not sure if the forms do any math and I'm sure it's limited to the more basic returns, but it is a way to file free.

LOL. The IRS might not be going after clients for fraud, but they will most certainly disallow some credits and assess penalties and interest for late payment.

SSA contacted me about a possible duplicate W2 from the early 90s when I applied for SS. Unfortunately, I had shredded all my tax returns from 1972 forward and didn't consider scanning them before shredding because I had the last 20 years in PDF form. I had switched jobs with the same company and it's quite possible they did give me two W2 forms for one year and the total income seemed about right as well, so they allowed the extra W2 to be part of my earnings record.

You can open two tiny returns, but two average size returns or a large and a small return. But for me, having two returns open at once is something I need about 1% of the time.

One more problem with my dead guy's corp

Sometimes, I've found that just asking the question out loud, or typing it on a forum, helps me find the answer without any input. -
business operations after death of 100% Scorp shareholder
Abby Normal replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
Was taxpayer married or single? If single, then the estate owns the business and it goes on the 1041. And you'll want to file to carryforward the NOLs until they can be used or passed out to the bene's. -
If it's a schedule C he can't rent personally owned land to the the Sch C. All related expenses would be on the Sch C and there won't be a Sch E.

Every time I've tried a VPN, the internet slows more than is acceptable to me, even though they always say it shouldn't slow your internet. But I've only tried that type of VPN at home, never at work. Using a privacy VPN while traveling is probably a good idea, as is avoiding all public wifi and just using mobile data. I use an add-on in Firefox that forces websites to https, instead of just http, for added security.
