I wonder if, now that we're expensing 2,500 tangible assets, it follows that we would also expense intangible assets. If you don't expense it, it's 15 years of amortization.

We don't use that many toner cartridges anymore but these are really good prices!

Are they telling you that there are separate updates for standalone installs and network installs? I don't think that's right.

I watched a couple videos on David Bowie Saturday night and was saying that I need to add more Bowie songs to my playlists. Bowie always did his own thing and it was usually brilliant. RIP. Asanti!

I don't think they worry about 1098Ts with 30k billed, because they know the education credits/deductions have such low limits. They probably assume, like I do, that the taxpayer definitely paid at least 4K, unless it was all paid with scholarships. It's the 1098Ts with 5K in tuition that may be claiming too much credit/deduction.

In 14 & 15 they moved the location of the admin console program to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\CCH Small Firm Services\ATX 2015 Admin Console\Sfs.ServerHost.AdminConsole.exe" If you can't find it on your menu.

Export the letters from 2014 and import them into 2015. I haven't found a way to get all the states letters out of 2014 yet, but I did get my main state letters.

I read in Journal of Accountancy that colleges will be require to complete the tuition paid box on the 1098-T starting in 2016.

Somewhere I heard another fake name for a law firm: Poore, Lee & Dowd.

No for the losses inside the corporation, but the loans and unreimbursed expenses are all capital losses on the 1040.

Indeed. First time I ever posted about this annoyance, some users defended the warning. I couldn't believe it.

Other Notable Enhancements The save warning on extensions has been disabled by default and you will no longer be prompted to confirm changes if those e-files are only Extensions.

You can also change the brightness and contrast on your monitor to make the whites whiter.

Firefox has a Reader View function built in. The icon looks like an open book. If you're on a page that it will work on, the icon will show in your URL bar (where the website address is). Also in Firefox, under Options, Content, Advanced, you can uncheck the box to allow pages to use their own fonts. Then pick whatever font and size you find easiest on the eyes.

Organizers are a bigger pain than usual this year
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Well, at least adding page numbers was quick and easy. Selected all organizer pdfs in Nuance Power PDF, and used the scheme I had set up earlier this year, clicked ok and off it went! Boom. Making them fillable and adding a password has to be done one organizer at a time, but that's what office help are for. It took my employee about 8 hours to add organizer letters and print organizers to pdf for about 300 clients. Thanks for the bug, ATX! And it will likely take another 8 hours to make them fillable and password protected. Thankfully I have employees who don't mind a repetitive task. -
ATX's client letter templates are horrifically verbose and use a horrible font, so I've pared it down, used a couple of attractive fonts, used a larger point size and added some boldface to highlight the most important parts. I have to fight a little bit with the estimates section when one or more of the estimate amounts are zero, but it's no big deal. See attached. CLIENTTEST.pdf

Does anyone know how to get custom letters from prior year?
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
I was referring to tax return instruction letters, not organizer letters. And I only print, fold, stamp and mail as a last resort. Even then, I try to avoid folding. -
A checkbox on letter options to paper file the return. Be warned, if you set the preference to assume efile, this new feature doesn't work. It also didn't work with the first state that I tried it with, MD.

Does anyone know how to get custom letters from prior year?
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
The letters in ATX are so effing weird. When I rolled over my test client (dummy file I always have), the custom letters were included with the return. So I just had to edit it a bit and save for all future returns. Everything about the letters is hidden and flaky. I hate it and I spend WAY more time screwing with letters than I ever did in any other tax software. -

Not using their letters would make the task even more tedious. -

Printing them separately turns a two minute task into a 16 hour task. I'd say that's a big deal! And what is this paper and toner you speak of? -
Batch adding organizer letters failed, so we have to add the letters manually. Batch printing of organizers fails to print the two letters we added in step 1, so we have to manually print each organizer. ATX has royally screwed this up, this year.
