  1. I do all my H/W LLC rentals on Sch E. Any IRS agent with half a brain knows there is nothing for the IRS to gain by forcing them to do a 1065. And the penalty removal is automatic. I'm not worried.
  2. So do you use ATX backup and change the location to your desktop folder (bad idea by the way) and to a thumb drive, or do you just copy the ATX Backup folder to your desktop and thumb drive? I just tried a thumb drive backup this morning out of curiosity and I selected 54 returns but it was taking so long I had to kill it. It only got to 2.
  3. ATX creates an internal backups, as do many other programs. Of course you need to external backup all your data, internal backups and other important files. You'd be crazy not to. I just wanted to know if anybody had changed file locations and if they'd had any problems. It sounds like no one here has.
  4. My concern is diskspace. My main drive is a 500GB SSD that's about 40% full. My D drive is 1.3TB and that's where I have my data for almost every other program. ATX takes up quite a few GBs every year so I'd prefer to move the data and the backup on my D drive, where I have much more space.
  5. 10 replies in and I still don't any answers.
  6. But can you pronounce it properly?
  7. I left Carbonite because it could NOT back the Program Data folder because they dubbed it a system folder. It was hard coded into their software. Also, I had several problems with Carbonite that they were not willing to fix, much less acknowledge. Agree wholeheartedly that the first rule of backup is to do a restore. The second rule is to check what is actually being backed up. CrashPlanPro is the best backup software I've found.
  8. Now you may have an RMD issue if husband did not take his RMD before dying. I encourage my clients to take the RMD early in the year.
  9. Inherited from spouse. If a traditional IRA is inherited from a spouse, the surviving spouse generally has the following three choices: Treat it as his or her own IRA by designating himself or herself as the account owner. Treat it as his or her own by rolling it over into a traditional IRA, or to the extent it is taxable, into a: a. Qualified employer plan, b. Qualified employee annuity plan (section 403(a) plan), c. Tax-sheltered annuity plan (section 403(b) plan), d. Deferred compensation plan of a state or local government (section 457(b) plan), or Treat himself or herself as the beneficiary rather than treating the IRA as his or her own. If a surviving spouse receives a distribution from his or her deceased spouse's IRA, it can be rolled over into an IRA of the surviving spouse within the 60-day time limit, as long as the distribution is not a required distribution, even if the surviving spouse is not the sole beneficiary of his or her deceased spouse's IRA. https://www.irs.gov/Retirement-Plans/Plan-Participant,-Employee/Retirement-Topics-Beneficiary
  10. You haven't seen many WWII movies, eh?
  11. I guess my message was unclear, to say the least (either that or you've all started drinking early). I meant do you change the ATX defaults locations in the ATX Admin Console on your computer. And, by the way, NEVER use Carbonite to backup ATX. It doesn't back up the folder where ATX puts the data and the backups.
  12. The IRS has to triage this things with limited funds, and their computers are ancient, but still I have to agree. It makes our job a joke when crap like this is allowed to go on.
  13. I know that was verboten for 2013, but I haven't heard the topic discussed for past two versions.
  14. How do these cities know that you've done work in them?
  15. Never moving to OH.... or PA, NJ or NY. FL sounds good, though!
  16. It happens to me mostly when I'm in a Detail screen and I do some mouse click or keyboard combination the programmers hadn't anticipated. I'm hard on software. I'd make a good tester!
  17. I use the windows built in scanning software for my scanner at home. It works fine. But at work, I agree with Margaret. Get a ScanSnap and use their software/
  18. I found it: http://www.ringcentral.com/fax/ Thanks!
  19. How did the assets get into an Excel spreadsheet? I've always had to enter all the fixed assets from new clients by hand.
  20. Ctrl+S early and often. Also, after working for 20 minutes or so, close the client to create a backup. It only takes a second and can save a lot of time and aggravation.
  21. Even if you close the box with the x, instead of clicking on the ok button? I don't use autosave. I don't like autosave in most programs. I prefer to have control over when I save, which is early and often.
  22. Click on the small x in the top right corner of the error message box. This closes the message box without closing ATX and allows you to save your return before restarting ATX. I've actually just kept working after closing the message and not had any problems
  23. I've filed 4137 for years for a hair stylist. You would think telling the IRS that you have tips you failed to report tips to your employer would have some repercussions, but I guess the IRS has bigger fish to fry.
  24. Sorry, Joan! Hugz! I still have pictures of my dogs in my office, even though they are long gone. They were very special to me, as I can tell yours are.
