  1. I think it would have been less confusing and more clear if the IRS had put the QCD subtraction on the Sch A. I've come close to taking the charitable contribution by mistake more than once because there was an acknowledgement that does not indicate it was paid for with a QCD.
  2. Agreed. And my experiences may be outdated, BUT I've never had a problem with or been let down by ESET. It never slows down your computer or other device.
  3. Timely article. One reason I have added protection is because not everyone in my household is as computer savvy as I am. Plus it covers it android devices, as well. https://www.zdnet.com/article/do-you-still-need-to-pay-for-antivirus-software-in-2024/
  4. I don't care. It's been problematic too many times for too many people. Besides, how do we know those reviews are not bought and paid for? Others to avoid are Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky.
  5. Avast is the absolute worst. The only one I've used that I like in the past 30+ years is ESET. You're better off just using the windows built in antivirus.
  6. Like the Extended Security Program from Microsoft, 0patch is not a free service. However, it promises much longer support and additional benefits, such as faster and less disrupting patching (the DogWalk vulnerability was fixed two months before Microsoft), fixes for vulnerabilities that were left untouched by manufacturers, and patches for non-Microsoft products. 0patch is a yearly subscription that costs 24.95 EUR (~$27) per computer for individuals and small businesses. https://www.neowin.net/amp/windows-10-will-get-five-years-of-additional-support-thanks-to-0patch/
  7. Which version did you buy? Max, 1040, Advantage?
  8. The ownership changes section of the K1 works fine. It's been awhile since I've had one, but I don't remember having any trouble getting it right. I'm surprised the seller doesn't want to close the books. If the new owners increase income substantially, the seller will be paying tax on income he'll never receive. He'll get an offsetting basis increase on his capital gain or loss on the stock sale, in this example.
  9. Reboot all hardware, including network gear. Run Admin Console. Call support if problem persists.
  10. That's for Sch A. On Sch E, everything is either currently deductible or amortized. These cost may have to be set op to be amortized in 2023 then written off completely when the loan is refinanced in 2024.
  11. I'd check for malware first, because I've never seen anything like that happen. Then download a good uninstaller like Revo and uninstall anything you didn't install and/or don't want. Be careful with removal of folders and registry entries if you aren't comfortable with that. Then remove any extensions in Firefox that you don't need or don't use. Good luck!
  12. Transfer all of the assets into the surviving LLC, re-title if need be. Transfer the cash into the surviving LLC's bank account. Assume any liabilities. Close the old LLC.
  13. This has nothing to do with display settings. Just move one year to another screen. First, you have to get out of maximized view. That's the box icon in between the - and the X.
  14. Yeah, there's a lot of information missing for this decision.
  15. Since SMLLCs are ignored for tax purposes, why not just transfer one LLC into the other and just have one entity? You can then elect S status for the surviving LLC. Then do departmental accounting if you want to track the two business separately.
  16. If you have a PDF of the returns and a PDF of the records, even if you can't get ATX to work, you will have everything you need.
  17. If she has the full database, I'm almost certain that she can reinstall that year's ATX and it will work. If she just has exports or ATX backups, it will not work.
  18. Everybody has a pre-existing issue. For-profit insurance companies make a living denying us coverage so they can pay dividends to their shareholders. It's the worst example of capitalism applied to a public good.
  19. Tell them to make sure to kill end of the ATX Server services are running, before doing the clone. Better safe than sorry.
  20. That... doesn't seem correct. But I've never left ATX, so I can't speak from experience. I do, however know that the ATX database resides on your computer, so all of your information should still be there. I'd run the database repair files, first.
  21. I used to file MFS Delaware for couples where one worked in Maryland and one worked in Delaware, but then I realized that the total state tax never changed, so I stopped. It was also quite a pain to do in ATX.
