Not only that but make sure the service is running by going to run and typing in services.msc. Look for the ATX service and see if its running. If it is just try restarting the service. You can accomplish this by clicking on it and choosing Restart.
-
The problems that it creates is cause windows can manage the device's power functions. You can disable this in device manager. The Wake on Lan feature is for something else. But go into device manager and there is a little checkmark next to Allow windows to control the power to this device. Remove that and a lot of those issues goes away. Sometimes the device never turns back on when this is enabled. Restarting it will fix it but removing that checkmark will fix it also.

Actually Jack, I must correct you on that statement. I have used the backup and restore functionality in the software on many occasions. I have used it to replicate the date from an old PC to a new one. I have used it when I needed to restore a corrupted return or a return that needed a previous version to be restored. I had a few problems with it, but those were few and far between. In the end, The issue was resolved and the data was restored. You are right though. There is a lot more to the backup utlity. There is a way to import returns using the returns that are backed up. So that option is also available for him to restore his data. Customer Support would be able to assist him in restoring the data. Technical Support would be required if Customer Support is unable to do so.

Jack, Currently He has 0 returns. How can you lose returns when the amount is zero?

Also, It was not ATX that rebooted your computer but the Windows .Net Framework. And I would be slightly displeased if i could not view the ATX Community Forums also.

I thought would toss in my .02 in on this subject. I use a program called Display Fusion. It adds a taskbar to each monitor and i can move windows to the various montiors using hotkeys. It can display different images for the wallpaper and rotate those images. Who gets tired of the same boring black. It works up to 10 monitors and allows for different resolutions for each monitor not to mention landscape or portrait view. The program is not free but Lifetime license. Website is http://www.displayfusion.com/

The NTLDR File is a boot loader. If this is corrupt. You will not be able to load the OS. This can happen for a variety of reasons. To access the data. You can get a Hard Drive Enclosure for the type of drive. Then plug it into the USB and it will mount the drive as an external drive and access the data. Just save the files for ATX in the Program Files Directory to your new computer and restore from backup. You could save the entire ATX2011 through whenever or just point the backup/restore utility to the backup folder for those prior years. That will restore the returns and just manually update your prior year software. Now for 2012 - Go to the following location and save the backup folder or just point the restore returns to the backup folder and restore the returns in 2012. The location on the drive is C:Docs and SettinsAll UsersApp DataCCH Small Firm Services

Another thing to try is to mark the return and go to Returns and redownload forms in marked returns. Let it redownload the forms and then try rolling over.
-
You are referring to the DCN Counter But the best way to transmit with two computers is to network them together. Are these two computers both running ATX and at the same physical location?
-
Interesting, But then they added that Download Forms in Marked returns because sometimes an older version would not update. Which also is a good way to fix a broken return when rollover fails and you get that forms mismatch error. Unless it says that the form it is looking for is 2013 in the 2012 program. Then you have to go to the Knowledge Base on the Solution Center for that fix.

Just what we need from the IRS... "Free File Opens Today."

Jshtax, ATX will be accepting returns on the 21st and will hold them till the 31st. You cant do it just yet, but soon. -
Jack your knowledge of ATX is great but there is a way. All you need to do is create a new return and add the forms you wish to use. Name the return 1040 Template or something along those lines. When you want to create a new return for a client. Choose that return and go to Returns and Duplicate Return It will give you the option to name it and then you would proceed to name it. This replicates the Template feature in ATX and allows more versatility.

User Account Control Settings for ATX 2012 UPDATES???
Gileam replied to PaulaP15's topic in General Chat
The fix is to simply right click on the ATX 2012 and select Properties. Click on the Compatibility Tab. Click the check mark box that says run as Administrator. From here on out, The UAC will ignore ATX. Disabling it is just one fix, but its not the only fix. This also works on the 2013 program also. -
We only lost power a few years back at my house during the winter storm that passed through Georgia. I found the best light solution over the summer. It is called Luci and made by mpowered. If you want to search for this affordable alternative for light. I would google search for Luci Light. It was only 15.00 and have more than a few laying around the house and the car. Its light enough (no pun intended) to put in your jacket pocket.

Go to the 1099R and Go to Box 7 and choose 1 and L. It will put 1L in the column and route the 10% amount to the 5329

Get yourself one of those nice WD Passport drives. I carry one in my ScottieVest Jacket. Quite useful.

Interesting, Magnetic media has been around since the stone age of computers. Its reliable, It has difference sizes, CD, DVD And Blu Ray. I have found it to be reliable years after i backed it up and all of a sudden it is not considered reliable? Now someone at ATX support says that is not true? Were they awake when this call was taken? Oh and the method to move data to magnetic media. Copy and paste is my favorite. Because I will have it backed up on a Data Partition on my hard drive and backed up on the magnetic media. its amazing what some people say these days.

Honestly, IMHO, MalwareBytes is way too slow for commercial or personal use. I do IT support in my part time. One of my customer's had this on their computer and it was like "Scan computer" Estimated Time Remaining "200 hours" it was a brand new PC and nothing was on it except for Malwarebites. So i went to PCtools.com. Installed Spyware Doctor with Antivirus. They renew it every year. It works perfectly out of the box and the customer support has been outstanding. Anytime someone asks me for a recommendation for a good free security software. My reply is simple "You get what you pay for."

Splitting refund into two different checking accounts
Gileam replied to Janitor Bob's topic in General Chat
it is the Form 8888. yes it can be paper filed according to IRS documentation. -
That is correct. Last year the IRS sneaked a new thing into MEF which was interesting if it came with some sort of documentation. Unless the state is sent unlinked. It will have to adopt the federal submission MEF ID. However to get one, The Federal Return has to be in a submitted state. To bypass this issue. Just go to the state E-File Info page. Look at the top and click Unlink form. This will allow both the state and the federal to have their own MEF Submission ID.

Honestly I enjoy the NT Threads. I think there is a lot of knowledge in this growing community and while some have been quite "vocal" about their feelings. The moment we choose to censor what other people say is the same moment this place is no longer a community. If someone is offended by what another person's says. They do not have to read their comments.

To back up your ATX. It is rather quite simple. For Prior to 2012. Go to your program files folder or your network drive. Find the ATX20?? Folder the ?? is for the year. Then Save the entire backup folder. Copy it to a flash drive or magnetic media. In order to restore the data. Install ATX for that year. Replace the original Backup folder with the one that you saved. Go to Start>Programs>ATX>Backup/Restore and choose the restore tab. Click Select All. Then click restore For 2012 If you are on a stand alone installation For Windows XP Go to the following C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataCCH Small Firm ServicesBackup and save the backup Folder. For Windows 7 Go to the following C:Program DataCCH Small Firm ServicesBackup For networks. Check the same locations on the server computer. If you are unable to find it. Open ATX Click Return Menu under Return Manager Click Backup Look at the destination directory. That will point you to where the CCH Small Firm Services Folder is. ATX 2012 uses a Dual Directory Structure. Program in one Directory/Saved Files in another
