I used a similiar form when I taught school. Some students just smiled and others were ready to kill me. Paying attention to instructions sometimes is difficult. KC, praying for health and recovery for you and your husband.

That was cute. I tried lay down and I got a response instead of an action. Love the kiss.

I am also a one person office. I use Hartford Insurance. I think it is reasonable. $10,000 each claim and cost is under $200 for tax prep only, no bookkeeping.
-
Both you and your husband are in my prayers. Take care of yourself.

I took the survey and I think I got to the end. 2 employees, 2 locations. Wasn't interested in RAL's, clients don't want to spend the extra money to get their refund a few days earlier. Wasn't asked about a $1000 prize. My guess was to figure out how much of an increase we, the users, are willing to spend next year for the tax program. I have been using the program for 10 years.

Info can also be found on the IRS site 1040-es instructions page 3 and it can be filed electronically filed. Must register.

Don't know, but that is an interesting question. If you can file an extension electronically with a payment why not an estimated form with payment? It would save last minute runs to the post office and at the same time give preparers more work. I am not sure if I would like to be responsible for the clients estimated payments getting to the government on time.

I don't think I will ever look at spaghetti with or without meatballs the same way. Thanks for the laugh.

Had a client who passed away in 2005 filed all the federal and state returns. The state of New Jersey wrote to the client and want the fed 706 for 2005, but also wanted fed 706 for 2001 (the first page) because of the amount of inheritance. Really caught me off guard why 2001 when the client died in 2005. Prepared the fed 706 for 2001 and sent to NJ. Hopefully they will be happy.

The state of New Jersey has unclaimed property on their web site. I used it and found that there was an insurance policy that had dividends and stock in my maiden name. All I had to do was prove I lived at a particular address and that was my name. Thankfully I have kept all my old income tax returns (45 years ago) and I used that as proof.

Really liked the problem. My background is math so I solved it using algebra. S + L + P = 27 snakes, lizards, people number of heads 2P = L twice as many lizards as people 4L + 2P = 70 number of feet 4(2P) + 2P = 70 10P = 70 P = 7 2P = L 2(7) = L 14 = L S + 14 + 7 = 27 S = 6

Thanks for your help. Tried many combination but none worked. Finally called the Irs e-file help line. It seems the year you establish a trust you can not e-file. It has to be paper filed. The following years can be e-filed. The EIN was filed for in 2006, therefore it is not on their database. Hopefully 2007 will not have a problem.
-
Client did not have w-2 or 1099's. The trust is being funded by stock and has no income or interest at this point. This return is basically info only. There is no tax liability for 2006. That will change for 2007.

Trying to e-file a 1041 and getting this error "The employer Id Number and the the Name Control on the return do not match information on the National Account Profile database" e-filed the extension without any problem. Name on the 1041 "John B. Doe Testamentary Trust" Used "Doe" as the name control did not work, went back and deleted it and still does not work. Actually client's last name is only 4 characters and that is what I used. Would "Test" work because it is the last before the word trust? I am almost ready to paper file but would like to find out how to solve problem. I am using ATX. Thanks for any advice. Barbara

Thanks I needed a good reason for pissing and moaning. Although sometimes it doesn't work, I tend to get a little wet. Oh well, that's life.

Only got 17, my rotation is backwards.

I would say you are correct. If you deducted sales tax, you did not take state income tax. The federal is looking for state income tax refund that could be taxable. I have many clienta who use sales tax instead of income tax. Using sales tax would be like not using sch A and getting a refund from state, whether the refund is small or large it is not taxable to the fed. No deduction not taxable.

Guess I will have to wear larger bells.

I have the tax program print my name and I also sign each one as I check the return. Even the ones that are the copies (theirs and mine). I also put a reddi-tag for "sign, date, and mail" on the copy to IRS. Only had one person call me back and ask what do I send to the IRS, she was confused. She removed staples and paper clips and probably shuffled all the paper together, what a mess.

Thanks Don for the link. Site looks interesting but I did not see 1041's. Although I might give the demo a try.

I have been reading about 2nd story in this thread. Where can I find more about them, perhaps their website?

I am glad someone else saw this message on CCH. I did not save the link to the message board. Thanks for seeing this because I was thinking my computer and me were in very bad shape.

I don't think its you because today I purchase some of those forever stamps and will hold them until the price of postage goes up. Unless of course it goes down DON'T THINK SO. Thanks for reminding me to get 2 cent stamps. Actually I would prefer to put 41 1 cent stamps on the envelope but the post office would probably return the letters to me because they could not read the address.

Client wants to take a loan to help their child buy an asset (equipment) for the child's business. The child will pay the loan. Can the child take the interest on the loan off on a sch f? The child will probably take the depreciation of the equipment. My client will not take the interest on their sch A (loan is against the clients home, home equity). I know the IRS doesn't care if you take a smaller deduction or no deduction on your return. I am concerned about the child's return showing interest from a 1098 belonging to the parent. Can the child put an attachment to the sch f explaining that the child is paying the loan off and would be entitled to the deduction? Different topic, went back an check cch message board and I am still getting the "closed message". I did notice that I was not logged in so I did log in and got the same message. Technology is great but today has been one of those days- email was corrupt and spent 2 hours on the phone with a nice gentleman too bad he was in India. He could not fix the problem unless I was willing to lose all my e-mail. Said NO and played with it myself. Found solution reverse order of the e-mail and move the good files out and delete the folder with the corrupt e-mail. Sometime I could wish for the good old days. Thanks for letting me vent and for any ideas on the interest problem.

Just was out to CCH message board and found this First ATX board now this the CCH board. I wonder if the are trying to resolve the non-tax messages that were appearing on their board? Anybody know what is happening?
