  1. Here in New Jersey, they are predicting 5-9 inches starting later today. Everytime they predict a large amount we get a dusting. So it will be a wait and see. Maybe I will have some clients cancel. Maybe I can clean my home, that's what is nice about a home office (at least I think) but who wants to clean.
  2. I would charge 250 + adding receipt time. Or make it 350 and give him a discount of 100 because he is a prior client. But explain this is a one time discount, if next year is the same with extra states and non totaled receipts the price is 350. Client add receipts than the price could be less.
  3. I was hoping that is what I would do. Thanks for the confirmation.
  4. Amending Pa has not been a problem until now. The TP has moved from the address on the Pa40. I've tried calling Pa but the hold time quiet long. If I just change the address on the PA40 Amend will that mess up Pa or is there a change of address form (which I can't find in ATX or I am just missing it) that I need to use or just write a note. Must amend the last 3 years. Thanks for your help.
  5. I enjoy the client who has moved or changed phone numbers or just using their cell phone. I have now made it a habit of asking for address and phone number (where to send the refund and for additional deductions). My clients don't consider either of those to be changes, they still have an address and phone number. So, what's the big deal about changing that. Oh well just another tax season.
  6. Thanks for your help and suggestions. I will try having the tp grt estimetes of the larger items and put the rest under small tools and supplies. I guess with the economy we might be seeing more of this. This is really starting off as a weird tax season and it isn't even April 14th. Maybe it is two Friday 13th this year.
  7. Taxpayer purchased the contents of a shop going out of business at a real good price. The contents contains lifts, air compressors, torches and other large items. It also contained some small items (nuts and bolts). The larger item should be depreciated and the other could be supplies. How do I depreciate it? Can I take the whole amount as misc items for depr or must it be broken out? I don't think we can break the smaller items (supplies) out. I have never came across a bulk purchase with varied items. I've done bulk dispositions. Any suggestions or sites would be helpful.
  8. Happy Birthday and thanks for your help.
  9. Gee this all sounds like a lot of fun. My main squeeze is off on a religious retreat this weekend. It seems that every valentines day he is on retreat and before that was taking courses. I guess my Valentine's Day is different on his calendar.
  10. Thanks for all your suggestions. I am going to have the friend call the mother and see if she is claiming him. I like the foster child approach.
  11. about 7 months
  12. Mother gave guardianship of her child age 17 to a friend. Signed all the papers. Child has been living with friend in a different area of the state. Child is in high school and has a part time job not making that much money < 2500. Child will file to claim refund but who would file to claim the child on their tax return, mother or guardian?? I would think the guardian but I am not sure. Thanks for any suggestions. Happy Valentine's Day.
  13. Same here in NJ. I just leave them loose in the folds of the return.
  14. I had to read that form over and over for that military question and finally saw where is stated jump down to a line (can't remember the number) and finish the form. DUMB form.
  15. Can these real estate taxes be on other than your home and must you live in it? Client lives with parents and this is a second home.
  16. # 10 wish I could use on some of my clients.

    Billing report

Just checked my e-file billing report (have 100 free e-files). Those that were done in January have names and ssn, those done in February have only ssn. Anybody else noticed this? I like to see names so I know which client did what. Just ssn now I have to go back and check each ssn for a name. I guess I can do this in my free time!!!!
  18. Same with New Jersey. Check history and it is accepted but shows IRS Cleared on the e-file.
  19. I think rested but not ready go to.
  20. I've received checks but never that much. I also get real estate tax bills but I am not going to pay them either.
  21. I may be old but "pickle" reminds me of being pickled (drunk) but at 7:30 am.
  22. At least your clients open and look at their mail. I have 1 that brings in the mail unopened, never has all the stuff I need, and always wants whatever the limit is or the same as last years deductions. Medical bills come from some place in is head along with real estate taxes and mortagage interest. Always send him home to find it. He comes 1st week in April. Yes I do file an extension and I do charge for it plenty.
  23. Finally found the problem. Checking reject history I found a code for ssn. Corrected ssn and the return was accepted. Spent a lot of time looking for it sure hope ATX can fix the problem.
  24. I've had this problem in the last 3 days and could not find out what the error was. Finally after trying and trying and looking at reject history I found that the ssn was incorrect. Corrected ssn and it just flew through.
  25. Not accepted by Fed.
