How is everyone doing so far with 2013? Feel free to share experiences. 1. From time I double click 2013 until I am able to enter my user name is 10 seconds.(30 seconds for 2012) 3(9 in 2012) seconds more until program is open after entering username 2. Once software is open on the return manager tab and I click on the rollerover tab it takes 22 (6 seconds last year) seconds for the 2012 returns to populate 3. 90(20 for 2012) seconds for a return to rollover to the return manager to be able to open. 4. 60 (120 for 2012)seconds to open a return that is on smaller size but has handful of unavailable forms Anyone else time their speeds this year? Appears to be faster than last year but still painfully slow as you are looking at 3 minutes from time you click on icon until you can be working on a return. Unable to compare data entry as not enough forms are available. Hoping speeds increase as more software is updated and forms become available.

They should be rising as more responsibility is being put on the shoulders of the preparer. -
Atx tax 2013 storage location may only be modified from server
jshtax replied to Tax130's topic in General Chat
The application location cannot be altered, but you will have the ability to change the storage locations for tax prep data (i.e. returns) and changing the database backup location by using the Admin Console. You can access the Admin console by going to Programs>CCH Small Firm Services>ATX 2013>ATX 2013 Admin Console -

Kim made a post on her blog about this. Problem is a lot of people have a small C drive on server for holding windows and windows files but have a separate D drive for programs and data. -
Taxpayer accuracy penalties as a result of audit.

I have had some attorneys strong arm the IRS to get those penalties removed but that is about only way I have seen it done. -
I know what he did. I almost did it myself trying to go too fast. When you first put disc in it says server/standalone. You must select sever then it will ask if you are a server only, server/workstation or workstation. If it picked standalone up front he would have never received the option to pick workstation.
-
You goofed, you should have selected server then workstation not standalone on the workstations.
-
When you have done "server only" did the server have a program icon or just the 13 folder for sharing files?

What turned you off from Drake and made you stay with ATX. Our issue is still waiting to be addressed. On ATX once the file size grows it becomes very slow and can take 5-6 seconds to move from cell to cell. I am waiting to see if this is a problem with 13 when the forms are released.

13 is sorta different from 12 but both 12 and 13 are both different that all years prior. 12 worked on a terminal server briefly at start last year but quickly stopped. I think there was a .net framework release that made it inoperable. Offsite cloud providers are only able to run this software on a cloud by giving each user a designated machine to log in to opposed to each used logging into one computer.

You nailed it. Thanks. I can try an OIC doubt of liability with cause. Cause being preparer error caused an amount of tax that was incorrect.
-
I am aware of the instructions was unsure if there were any exceptions.
-
Are there any exceptions to the statute of limitations on correcting an error on a return(error was caused by the former preparer and was no fault of the taxpayer.) It came to my attention yesterday that a clients 2007 corporate return was wrong(unnecessary depreciation recapture on final S Corp return) and it overstated their income by $250k leading to their personal income being overstated. The individual did not file their 07 individual return until December 2010 and is still under an installment agreement.
-
Just adjust it on the 2012 return to what it should be. Its not like you completely used up all of the losses.
-
it is the same issue as last year and the same issue other software companies have. they want you to use their cloud based platform opposed to creating your own cloud environment

If the solution is to get more computers or install directly to the workstations then so be it and it will be done I was just curious if there was a way to get around that issue. As Reptar stated earlier its possibly a .net issue. The reason we did this was sometimes we go to clients offices for a day long meeting and would remote back into the tax software. Technically this is not an approved or supported way to run ATX but you have to do what you have to do. I suppose we can just use a product like teamviewer and accomplish the same thing.

I guess the problem I have is that 11 and prior years it was able to be used this way and our office was setup around that. In 2012 and 2013 something in the program or .net changed and we now are in a position where we have to change the way the office is setup. Some of the offsite cloud companies had issues with this last year and the only way they could fix the problem was to have a separate computer for each virtual user to log into.

When I installed the "server" only it did not put an icon on the server just created a database file under ATX2013 so I am not sure what "network settings" you are speaking of. I then took disk to workstation and it found the server to use. I have had numerous workstations working at the same time that is not a problem. The problem is when we try to get multiple users logging into 1 workstation at the same time to open multiple instances of ATX at the same time. I can get multiple users on the "workstation" but as RepTar stated I get the error message saying "user" needs to log out. The users are using their computers remote desktop to log-in the "workstation".
-
If you have internet access at all times couldnt you remote into your computer at the office?
-
I too am having a difficult time with this type of install. I installed the CD on the server selecting Server Only. I then went to the workstation and installed CD with workstation only. The workstation is the hog that everyone logs on with their user name and password so they have their own personal desktop. Once multiple users are on this workstation ATX can only be opened by one user at a time. Is there something I am missing or is this type of install not allowed?

How do you handle clients that have been working with you that want to follow you to your new place?
-
It has nothing to do with recruiting the clients away. If the client works with a professional and they form a relationship the client is already at risk of leaving. The best course of action if you want to secure your clients is to do the work yourself.

That is when ATX was ATX and not a spin off of CCHSFS
