  1. It doesn't seem to work that way on the Fed. exchange. They know what our 2012 income is because the system is tied to the IRS and they specifically ask for "2014" income. Makes no sense at all, they are asking people to look a year in advance. The whole site is screwed up, the language is often incorrect and tenses are wrong. It's like it was written by people in India, and the dozens of chats I had, I was certain I was chatting with someone in India. Here is an exact quote from our eligibility notice " - You need to send the Marketplace proof of your yearly income for 2014" At this late time of year I can come real close to what our final 2013 income will be but not 2014.
  2. On the website you select from a drop down menu the type of document you are up loading, and one of the selections is "Most recent" profit and loss statement. They cannot verify what "2014" income is till a self employed (or anyone for that matter) person files a return or till 2014 closes ; it's all a waste of time and resources. I understand if you receive more of a subsidy then you are entitled to they either take it out of your tax refund or add to your tax due.
  3. I got as far as getting my eligibility notice but it would not open and I could not continue because it said I needed to do something with the application but the link did not work. So I opened an account under my husbands name and was able to open the eligibility notice. It stated He needed to provide information on his income (he's self-employed) Tried to upload his P&L statement for a week or two but that function is one of the "glitches" in the system. So I mailed it to the address provided by certified mail, it was delivered on October 19th. When I log on we still cannot continue because the system is still asking for the information. Called 4 times or so before I got someone who could tell me what happens after my information is received. Was told it takes up to 3 weeks "after mailing" to enter the information and then I will be able to look at planes. It's been 22 days since the letter was "delivered" and we still cannot get to the point of looking at plans.
  4. Thanks for the Link, as I am one who has NOT be able to complete the process on healthcare.gov So I looked at AmeriHealth NJ Premium National Access Gold POS+ On their website and go a quote of $1,830.40/ mo On link you shared the price for the same plan is $1,065.96 That's a good savings if it's correct
  5. They held my nieces refund till May, she files the first week. The refund was for $900. So I don't get it
  6. Sorry, it the VA not Virginia; I misunderstood my clients email when he used VA
  7. Here is a link to the explanation on healthcare.gov https://www.healthcare.gov/what-if-my-state-is-not-expanding-medicaid/#state=new-jersey
  8. I do think the wife is figuring out her hubby is a Jerk and that is why she wanted to talk to me. At least the money will be in the wife's name and do believe she will use it for her mother's comfort and well being. If he gets his hand on the money it will be new cars and vacations ......
  9. I meat with the clients yesterday. First time I meat the wife she is very nice. Before they arrived I remembered they haven't paid their mortgage in 2 years and are getting a a loan mortification. That's what he was concerned about. I said nothing. She wanted to make sure all her mom's asset's could be gifted to her without any gift tax or income tax requirements. Got the impression she didn't believe him. He is a "Fill in the blank" because I cannot come up with a word to describe this guy. But I will say HE IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY More back ground. He, not both of them, he, filed bankruptcy in 09. Right before they went to court He leased her a Lexus for $525 a month, he drives a Mercedes. Only he works, so she really doesn't need a car. This past year they had a cancelation of debt from Macy's for $900. I guess bankruptcy didn't stop them from shopping at a expensive store on credit. They are also on a payment plan with the IRS. His mother-in-law is in a rent controlled apartment and he was talking about getting money out of the land lord for having mom move. She also has an annuity and he was talking about how he can get money out of them for a buy out. And on and on and on. She was in tears because her mom is on her way out and she has to deal with all this crap. He was thinking of ways he can benefit financially from all this. WHAT A JERK!!!
  10. I highlighted the personate information in Pub. 950 and sent it to him in a email for his reference, I also reminded him I can only speak to the tax implications of giving gifts and not the legality of his mother-in-law gifting her assists so she qualifies for any programs and that he would need to speak to an attorney about that part. He emailed back and said that part has been done. Not sure I believe it. I do find it hard to believe Virginia has no look back period. But then again a lot of rich politicians live in VA and it may benefit them. who knows.
  11. I will tell them to get legal advice on that.
  12. I did explain in a different email that the givers pays the tax.
  13. "Sounds like they may want to drag you into the conversation so if anything goes wrong they can try and blame you: Yep that is what crossed my mind
  14. Clients can be a big PAIN IN THE A _ _!!! So I got email from a tax customer, he had a question about gift tax. He wanted to know how much his elderly mother-in-law can give him each year. He believed it was $13,000 per year but as of 2013 it is $14,000 per year PLEASE tell me if you understand what I told him You can give a gift of $14,000 per person per year and not need to file a gift tax return or pay any gift tax. There is also a life time maximum you can give without paying taxes of $5,250,000 (2013). The IRS gives a unified credit based on that amount which equals $1,772,800.00 Here is an example: I gift you $30,000, that is more than the 14,000 so I (not you) must file a gift tax return I calculate the taxable gift as follows. 30,000 – 14,0000 (the annual exclusion) = 16,000 that I must show on a gift tax return. Let’s say the tax on the 16,000 is $3,000 I can apply the life time credit $1,772,800. - 3,000 $ 1,769,800 That I have left to apply to future gifts. I do not have to pay any gift tax but I do have to file a return because I gave a gift over the $14,000 annual exclusion. He emailed me back We need to get mother assets below 80k so she can get VA sr care benefit. There is no look back. She has about 260k now. She is going into assisted living My response She can gift all of it to you and --- she'll have to file a return but there will not be any tax because she will not have exceeded the life time credit. His response he wants to come over with his wife and discuss it. WHAT, what is to discuss???
  15. They must have used the same softwear developers as healthcare.gov
  16. Or the Dems. are doing to say, look how many people want this.
  17. Do you mean healthcare.gov? Because I have been trying all day and no luck
  18. I cannot get on. But yes it is to be expected. I'm sure every new organization in the country is loging on to check it out also, slowing it down even more.
  19. FastForward Academy is still offering RTRP Exam review on their website
  20. OK, I knew the testing requirements for RTRP’s was out, but I didn’t realize the 15 CE hours was also. With as complex as the tax code can be, it’s crazy that any morose out there can do taxes without any kind of anything.
  21. I didn't even open the email
  22. I love the IRS and the Government NOT. I wonder if they monitor this site?
