  1. Ok, I have a contractor that has a bookkeeper that is his girlfriend and cannot keep records. The guy has about 5 EIN but she can not tell me the name of the Company that goes along with it. OR if it's a LLC or S-Corp. I was able to determine one EIN that he wants to use is for a S-Corp but he wants to use the number on a Schedule C I said this cannot be done. Am I correct?
  2. Is that for unlimited Desktop or web based

  8. I just accidently picked NH from the drop down menu and not NJ on the husbands W-2, client called me and asked why her husbands income isn't on NJ's return. Hope I see them next year
  9. I needed a client to get a copy of his 1099G (unemployment income). NJ now makes you get it online or in person. So I explained to the guy "I need the numbers" off your 1099G and told him he can get it on line. 1st he calls back and tells me he got the form but it says not for use, information only, should he call 1-800-get forms. He went to IRS.gov and looked up 1099G DAH I told him NJ used to send 1099G showing unemployment payments but now you have to get it on line from NJ. He has a online account and I know he has used it from print outs he gave me. 2. I get another call from him and he says here are the numbers. OMB=1545-0121 What the Heck!!!! he took "the numbers" off the form. Now I may have been able to explain better to him what I needed from him, but really, how dense can you be? He's been unemployed for two years, this isn't new to him

  14. At first I thought Depreciation wasn't being carried forward and, well it's not but when I opened last years software and hit the asset" button a pdf document opened showing what the depreciation amount is for the upcoming years, si at least I didn't have to enter the stuff all over again. THIIS IS THE TYPE OF STUFF THAT WOULD BE IN A GOOD USER MANUAL.
  15. I'd like a descent user guide, the one I found is very basic. I'd rather figure it out by reading the having to call . Like when you up load a document, I hit that button just to see what it does. couldn't find info on in the guide. I'll have to call tomorrow to make sue it will be sent with the return
  16. I have a client that need to go on a installment plan for NY FED and NJ. It seems NY has to be done over the phone. I created an account on line logged in, then went to billing & late Filling and selected "Request an Installment Payment Agreement" and got this message "Based on our guidelines, you can't request an installment payment agreement online. Please contact our Collection Resolution Center at (518)457-1726." Am I doing something wrong or is this how it works in NY. I could not locate a paper form Thanks
  17. I just had the same situation only not quite so many transactions. I'm going to attach a pdf.
  18. Ok, here one I've looked up and find as many as say no as yes. So what say you A clients 90 year old mother "needed" to be placed in a nursing home because she was no longer able to care for her self. Could the moving expense be considered a medical expense? here is one "expert" advice from a few years ago "Thank you for using justanswer. The general definition provided by the IRS states that, “Medical expenses are the costs of diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, and the costs for treatments affecting any part or function of the body.” The text goes on to say that these medical expenses “include the costs of equipment, supplies, and diagnostic devices needed for these purposes.” Dental expenses are also specifically included as medical expenses. As additional clarification, the text states that, “Medical care expenses must be primarily to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental defect or illness. They do not include expenses that are merely beneficial to general health, such as vitamins or a vacation.” While the text excludes expenses that are “merely beneficial to general health” the definition also includes the term “prevention of disease” among deductible medical expenses. There is, of course, some room for interpretation, and it is important to evaluate each situation individually to see whether the expenses go along with the spirit of this tax benefit provision. In keeping with the spirit of the law, and since transportation costs are already listed as deductible, I think if you can adequately prove that leaving your mother alone, and that in home nursing where she was living was not an option based on cost, etc, then you may deduct the move as medical." Not sure I agree
  19. Thanks That's great
  20. Thanks I got it figured out.
  21. Ok, I have land on which my home is located that is farm assessed and I am thinking of applying to have the land put in the NJ open spaces program. I would receive money for giving up my right to develop the property but retain ownership of it. Wondering how that sale would be taxed? I thinking it's a ordinary capital gain. But if I hold the rights and one day sell the property as a whole it would be the sale of my main home which would be taxed more favorably. Anyone have experience with sell development rights? Thanks Mary
  22. Thanks. Why I didn't see that is beyond me
  23. So I read this on the IRS website "For 2013, your residential rental property may qualify for a special depreciation allowance. This allowance is figured before you figure your regular depreciation deduction. See Publication 946, chapter 3, for details. Also see the Instructions for Form 4562, Line 14." I read through Pub. 946. 527 and the instructions for 4562 line 14 So why can I not figure out how to calculate the allowance??
