  1. Needless to say I have never seen a hamburger on this site.
  2. I have just read that federal employees with the addition of the new Juneteenth holiday get 44 paid days a year off. Are you really surprised that work is delayed and service sinks. Soon we will be right in there with the Ukraine and the like. And Possi I am delighted to hear some part of the Department of Taxation works well having not myself encountered it myself.
  3. A client who filed in October last year called last week to advise he got his refund at last plus $275.00 in interest. The interest sorta soothed his pain.
  4. Suffer in silence ? I always come in here to moan and groan. I feel better afterward but suspect I am being ignored.
  5. Finally got a work around that did the trick.
  6. I called WK this AM to renew only to find they are celebrating Memorial Day by being off on May 28th. Oh well I'll renew online. On attempting to access my account my password which I just changed recently did not work. Oh well I'll change it yet again. This allowed me to login on a ATX site but not the renewal site so I logged out. On returning to the ATX login site my NEW password did not work here !! Hopefully someone will report to work in Atlanta on 31st.
  7. Heaven knows I am no authority. My nephew is an Anglican Catholic priest and somewhere along the line discussed ministerial licensing with me. At a recent marriage a Baptist minister mentioned something along the line of by the power invested in me by the State of Virginia (which I found unusual). It's likely a moot point as I doubt she will produce it. In any event I am advising the couple speak with an immigration attorney and if they choose not to then I will prepare a mfs return if they are happy with that. Frankly, I am getting away from returns with potential problems and only entertain this one because of my long relationship with her parents.
  8. I too am considering a switch but I am staying put for 2022. I haven't made significant fee increases in ages so I plan to start moving them up in 2022 which will take care of any ATX increase.
  9. Well he surely has unreported income supporting a wife who has not worked and a baby. I have located an immigration attorney with a listing in this county. I will see her dad on Monday next and give him the number and see how it goes. If no ITIN is to be obtained it's mfs showing his name as required and NRA in the Social Security field. I'll see if she will provide a photocopy of her marriage license on the chance it was performed by some shade tree preacher who is not licensed in Virginia. Every once in awhile one of these will pop up and if unlicensed the State will not recognize the marriage at least this was the practice formerly unless changed.
  10. First I thank all of you for your responses. I have yet to speak with the wife. An immigration attorney is in Richmond at best. I expect to recommend that they apply for an ITIN and file a joint return but I don't know what the result will be. In filing this way do they get the EIC and child credit ? My feeling is he does not want to be shown on any tax document but we will see how this plays out.
  11. Those are simply the facts. No W-2s, no 1099-NECs no nothing as well as he does not file taxes. His father in law basically filled me in on the relevant facts. If she considers reality racial well that is her prerogative although I intend on talking with her. I have a diverse group of clients and no issues relating to race have occurred in thirty nine years. I have pretty well decided to file her as mfs and let the Service deal with his lack of an ID. Her home was apparently an inheritance from a family member.
  12. A longstanding client came in as usual at the last minute bringing his twenty something daughter's first tax return info. The daughter has her own home, a three year old baby, and a husband who is an Hispanic illegal with no tax ID of any kind who of course files no taxes likely working for cash. Instead of taking his family name she has retained her maiden including the family last name just as if she never married. In a word I have no clue as how to proceed. They live together so I can't file her as head of household. If filed as married filing separate how do I show the husband with no social security or TIN? In this neck of the woods this is an unheard of occurrence. In a word I simply have no idea of how to proceed. I may ask to see the marriage certificate it may provide an out. Any suggestions ?
  13. I located the toggle. How it got checked is a total mystery.
  14. I recently had to prepare a client return again in order to efile it. The original efile was rejected as the Service showed the wife as deceased. Our state Senator got that cleared but I had to recreate the return in order to refile. After submission I got a reject stating I did not have a subscription to Versicom. Well no I don't and have no clue what that is. They provided a number to call or said I could simply remove it from the efile. I have no clue how to remove it nor even know what they are talking about as I did not select it to begin with. Does anyone have a simple fix to this one ?
  15. Ach die Irisch. I had thought to post just such a thank you note but this lady has done it for me.
  16. Thanks Judy as I had just sent him a message.
  17. Thanks for your info. Drake is more expensive than ATX. Tax Act may be less so. I'll send Terry a message.
  18. Well lucky them they get to exclude the $5440 !
  19. I normally renew in May. This year I want time to investigate OLT software and think I will simply wait until I have adequate time to check it out. Over time I note other forum members got the same 10% from ATX even as far along as November in the year but don't know if this is correct. I believe they negotiated it with their rep. Price is a significant aspect of a small home based tax business and WK keeps jacking it up even in the face of the increasing coopetition small preparers face from free file and the like.
  20. It's been a long season. The question of the EIP and rebate payments are resolved. My question is this. Their combined agi for 2020 is in excess of $150,000 which means on their mfj return his benefits of $5440 must be included. On using the mfs filing status both partners' income exceeds $75,00 excluding the unemployment benefit. One would think he would need to include the unemployment benefit in his income but I have gotten other info each marital partner may EXCLUDE the unemployment benefit as each one is afforded the $150,00 cliff. I find this surprising and am unable for now to find a confirmation of this myself.
  21. In an entry I was involved in the question arose as to whether the unemployment benefits on a mfs return are included on a client return when both clients income exceeds $75,000. According to a response I got the cliff is $150,000 and applies to both clients so in this case the husband does not need to include the benefits in his mfs income. I have not had time to check this out but would appreciate any input on this.
  22. For the first time in quite awhile I screwed up on a client return. I apologized and advised I would return their fee. They were gracious and refused only to find I had later saved them a bunch on an item they had overlooked. This has surely been the most screwed up tax season I personally have experienced in almost forty years of being a taxguy. Now the Congress is going to rehash preparer oversight. The last time around I drove in excess of 150 miles to take a test which embodied very little of what I see each tax season. The test center was located in a non-descript tiny strip mall buried in a large metro area which took ages to locate. I passed but to this day I am unsure how I did. At last I can now address the plant world overwhelming the yard.
  23. I am assuming the IRS would have used their 2019 filing to determine their EIP payments.
  24. Let's see their first two rebates had been received. Both exceed $75,000 using the mfs filing status. As the Service has advised to simply disregard amounts sent in error I see no problem. However, since his income will exceed $75,000 even excluding the unemployment insurance benefit my question is will it be included in his income and I think it would be. Their combined income remains in excess of the $150,000 cliff.
  25. It does reduce the federal tax. The unemployment is his and leaves his income over $75,000. So is he required to include the unemployment since his income exceeds that amount ? I have no clue about the remaining $1400 rebate. A number of unanswered questions and this ole bird is plum worn out today.
