  1. Let me know how it works out trying to pro-rate it. The link you provided is not from the IRS. Do as you think best.
  2. Try entering the dashes when entering a SS#. Works in other places.
  3. I would say yes it would.
  4. The penalty is NOT PRORATED.
  5. My e-mail had an exact price with a complete breakdown. Maybe your sales reps don't understand customers...
  6. Move or divide them the way that gives the best tax advantage. No rules governing this.
  7. I am in the third year of a mission to correct this untenable situation!!
  8. This will not work. Remove all e-file documents. Then add the e-file documents back in. Fill in the information and it will file properly. I have dealt with over two dozen of these since Jan. 1. This is true for any returns 2013 & 2014.
  9. There are NO experts on ACA!! Only us tax professionals who have tried to learn about that extremely destructive, flawed and ridiculous set of INSURANCE laws. The IRS keeps changing the dates and rules about us enforcing that INSURANCE laws such that there cannot be any EXPERTS (not even in the government) on ACA.
  10. In Ohio, it will be the day our Governor stops humiliating himself and steps down as a Presidential candidate. His claims about what he had done in Ohio are far from completely factual. He always leaves out the "how" he did what he did. That said, our day will probably be the day AFTER the GOP convention.
  11. I would show such a client the letter that H&R sent me this January wanting to absorb my business. Then ask... "Why do they want to buy my business, and what do the really think of their own product if they are willing to discount $20 sight unseen?" $40 base increase sounds perfect.
  12. If they actually put tax cheats in jail, the entire company of Intuit would be there...
  13. I have only acknowledged that the actual filing date is April 18 to those who have found out for themselves. For every other person I talk to, due date is April 15. Then on Friday, April 15 I can be a giant hero by... "...I have a connection that can allow me to get this in on time for you. However, there will be extra cost..."
  14. The repayment system has a flaw. If the person files separately, only their income is use to calculate the payment they can afford. One spouse could be earning $200K, and the one with student loans earns $30K. If they file separately, the repayment schedule is based on the $30K income. I personally am offended by this type of action. These people game the system and cause the rest of us that pay according to our actual income. Same for the spouse that wants to file separately so her husband's unpaid child support does not snag her return. When did it become a smart move to marry a man with multiple thousands of dollars in unpaid child support? RANT OVER!
  15. Don't you just love it when insurance people give out tax advice? I still feel privileged that our Government has seen fit to appoint me to be the enforcer of their absolutely atrocious insurance laws.
  16. I charge extra when, through no fault of my own, the return has to be filed by mail instead of electronic.
  17. Box 2 is empty and "Taxable Amount Not Determined" is marked because the company handling the money has no clue if there is non-deductible basis in the account. To accurately determine Box 2 amount, you must find out if and how much non-deductible basis she has in the retirement account, and pro-rate accordingly. Code 2 DOES exempt her from penalty.
  18. Income reported on 1099-MISC cannot be filed as gambling winnings. Gambling winnings are reported on W-2G. Line 21 and NO DEDUCTION for losses. Fantasy football is NOT GAMBLING.
  19. Keep track of all startup expenses, then when the business actually starts making income, amortize total startup costs for 15 years. No deductions or tax filing until the business actually starts producing income.
  20. Did I miss the regulation that requires original W-2 forms on paper filed tax returns? Over the years I have sent multiple dozens of paper returns with photocopies and not a single issue? Am I just lucky?
  21. AND VOTE!!!
  22. That is only temporary....
