This just in... (ready for a really good laugh?) Good morning Jack, I apologize for the issue that you are having. I understand that it is very frustrating. We have not had a widespread issue with the auto-save feature not working recently in our latest versions of ATX, so we would like to work with you on your computer specifically. Please call in at your convenience, and we will be very happy to have one of our technicians work with you to correct this issue. Again, I do apologize for the inconvenience of this issue that you are experiencing. If you need further assistance, please contact our customer support department at 1-800-638-8291. Thank you for using our products!! Tabitha Ervin Wolters Kluwer ATX, CCH Small Firms Services 225 Chastain Meadows Court, NW Suite 200 Kennesaw, Georgia. 30144 What she does not know, is that her "tech support" people have tried multiple times over the 4 year period with no success. I will contact them from the firm on Monday and shut down their "end around diversion play" and see what they have to say. Film at 11:00...

And so it continues.... Hello, We do apologize for any issues you may be experiencing at the time. In regards to the Auto Save ATX will automatically save all open returns at regular intervals based on your selection in preferences. Returns that have already been e-filed or returns that have been marked Complete will not be saved. In order to further review the issue please contact customer support to speak with a representative and if necessary remote in for further troubleshooting. If you need further assistance, please contact our customer support department at 1-800-638-8291. Thank you for using our products!! Radisha Daniel Wolters Kluwer ATX, CCH Small Firms Services 225 Chastain Meadows Court, NW Suite 200 Kennesaw, Georgia. 30144 phone- 800-638-8291 fax-888-815-7587 [email protected] My response.... No disrespect intended, but you may want to read my original e-mail again. ATX does NOT automatically save ANY open returns unless I click on the save icon or close the return. I have been using ATX since 2002. I am computer literate. I KNOW what an autosave function is supposed to do. After working in a return for nearly an hour, the program pops up “An error has occurred and the program must close” messages, closes the program, and ALL the work I have just been doing is lost. I have contacted customer support about this issue multiple times since the train wreck of 2012 was issued. I have yet to see ANY change in the functionality of the autosave function. IT DOES NOT WORK. I await contact from someone at your company that can give me REAL and SUBSTANTIVE answers concerning this issue. I grow weary of the smoke being blown at me. I am NOT an average user. I DO understand computers much better than the average person. Stop trying to snow me. Your reply as well as my response will be broadcast on social media. This kind of incompetent treatment of a known deficiency for 4 years is totally unacceptable. Regards Jack L. Raby J.R.'s Tax Preparation

Here is an e-mail I just sent to every @cchsfs e-mail address I have: PLAIN AND SIMPLE - - - THE AUTOSAVE FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK FOR YEARS 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015. WHY IS THIS NOT BEING DEALT WITH? THIRD TIME THIS WEEK I HAVE LOST NEARLY AN HOURS WORTH OF WORK ON A FILE BECAUSE THE PROGRAM DECIDED TO CRASH ITSELF. DUE TO THE NON-FUNCTIONING STATE OF THE AUTOSAVE, POOF!! ALL MY WORK IS GONE AND I MUST START OVER. I HAVE AUTO-SAVE SET AT EVERY 5 MINUTES. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, BUT THAT SHOULD MEAN THAT THE PROGRAM CREATES A SAVED FILE EVERY 5 MINUTES? DO YOU NEED SOME RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PROGRAMMERS OR CODE WRITERS? LET’S NOT EVEN START ABOUT THE SERVER RETRY PROBLEM. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE NICE FAT INCREASE IN PRICE FOR YOUR “COULD USE A LOT OF WORK IN THE FUNCTIONALITY PORTION” SOFTWARE FOR 2016. I WILL BE A THORN IN AS MANY PEOPLE’S SIDE AS I CAN TILL I RECEIVE SOME SORT OF ACCEPTABLE ANSWER. I AM ALSO SPREADING THIS MESSAGE TO SOCIAL MEDIA SITES THAT I FREQUENT. 4 YEARS IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE TIME FOR COMPETENT PROGRAMMERS AND DESIGNERS TO FIX THIS ISSUE. Jack L. Raby J.R.'s Tax Preparation RANT OVER....

The IRS will follow its established regulations concerning dependency, etc.. The county judge has no authority over what the IRS regs are nor how they are enforced. This has been standard IRS policy since 2008. You may want to consider terminating your relationship with both of them. Or, buy stock in Excedrin Company.

Save your money. Make the necessary notations in their file. If your phone system has the capability of printing call history, do that as well. Then sleep well at night. No matter how large a hammer you use, you cannot fix stupid.

IRS to Delay Tax Refunds Involving EITC and ACTC Next Year
Jack from Ohio replied to Elrod's topic in General Chat
Not gonna happen. The debt indicator is no longer available. Just an urban myth propagated by those banks that made a ton of money issuing RALs. -
Write the check to the IRS directly, referencing her SS# and the tax year for the penalty. I would pay late filing penalty only. Get something in writing that she is acknowledging you paying the late filing penalty. Her late payment penalties will be much larger than that. For 2014 you are not liable for ANY penalties. In your situation, I would have electronically filed an extension the moment I realized I could not make the deadline. Side note, I would have told her "We are going to file an amendment and I will work on them next week." If she resisted, I would have handed her back her information and shown her the door. I am all for assisting our clients, but if an adult cannot or chooses not to read the calendar, that is NOT my issue to move into emergency mode.

IRS to Delay Tax Refunds Involving EITC and ACTC Next Year
Jack from Ohio replied to Elrod's topic in General Chat
This is not MY problem, YOUR problem or the IRS's problem. I did not sign on the line or run up the "bills" that need caught up. Poor money management skills of the American public is what has driven the tax refund process directly into the hands of the scamsters. Until Americans decide to take up personal responsibility for their lives, their families, their finances and cure themselves of the "Tax Refund As Quick As Possible" addiction, the scamsters will extract billions of the working Americans' money from the Treasure. Congress, nor the IRS will NEVER make the changes necessary to stop the scamsters. If they did, they would get voted out of office. (Which might not be such a bad thing if you think about it. -
speaking of getting hacked, what security software do you use?

No one would believe my processes. If interested, send me a PM. 5 years, no issues. -

This year, W-2 forms are required to be submitted by Jan. 31, 2017. This is true for mailed in as well as electronically filed W-2 forms. -
Server was brand new. I built and configured it. Backup to external HD only. No internet method of access to the server. No external method of access to the server. HD is also encrypted using Small Business server 11. I have no fears of my clients' information being hacked or stolen from outside sources. Our website does not connect to our server and does not collect or store client data. I have chosen the KISS method of hacking protection. The more complex and intertwined servers and the internet in any manner are, the easier to be hacked.
-
Our firm has NO internet connection to our data server in the office. We do NOT collect client information on our website. We do NOT allow access to our system from outside the office. Problem prevented.

Sent you a message. I can help you.

If it is legitimate expenses and there is not a line that better fits, use it. I have seen Sched. C with almost every deduction listed there instead of on the front.
-
"Other" and list it as seminar expense.

I don't want my client to call in response to CP14
Jack from Ohio replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
Good luck getting it changed. We have 2 responses to letters in the works where the payment was made for 2015 estimates and credited to 2014. No rhyme or reason why. Payments were made in July of 2015, and 2015 was written on the front of the check. Still waiting on response from the IRS. -

Jack from Ohio replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
Absolutely DO NOT let your client call. That is an ulcer waiting to happen!! Write the letter. Mail it to the address at the top of the notice. Send it certified, return receipt requested. If you used the wrong SS#, you can see it on the back of the cancelled check. There is a ton of information on the back of the check. Either way, don't call or allow your client to call. Send a letter with a detailed explanation (at or below a 6th grade comprehension level) to them. I have had extensively more success with letters than calling. -
98% of Tax preparers have not idea what you are saying to do, much less how to deal with an issue that crops up. I, same as Abby, have no desire to play computer "Sherlock Holmes" to see if I can make it work by partitioning the Hard drive as you describe. I have a bigger issue at hand. The ATX program, since 2012 takes up MASSIVE amounts of HD space. Either on a server or a stand alone. Suddenly, my 500GB Hard drive is full and 80% us taken up with ATX files.. If you think I am going to try partitioning etc., you are sadly mistaken. I will NOT consider WIN10 till at least Dec. 31, 2018. I have advised many people to follow the same path. Those that did not take my advice are very distraught at the outcome of upgrading to WIN10. A word to the wise is sufficient.
