  1. Recreate the e-file and transmit it again.
  2. AGREE
  3. I love posts that are presented as facts but start by using the word "projected." and the source is not even the IRS. I have lived through the end of the world 26 times. Why not publish documentation when the IRS has levied any of the penalties? I have more important subjects to be concerned with. No one that would be eligible for all these "projected" penalties will be on this website.
  4. Why not just go back to hand creating all the returns on paper and using a typewriter for all communications? That is also, with the same amount of feasibility, stop the hacking crap. I found a fossil when cleaning out my deceased dad's office on Saturday. A brand new, unopened package of carbon paper. If you go back to hand producing using paper forms, this may be worth its weight in gold!!
  5. Most of the scammers use internet based phone programs that spoof the phone number where the call is originated. They also spoof the IP address making it virtually impossible to track them. I have a group of friends that, when I get a call or some one of my clients gets a call that leaves a number, we all call them nonstop until they take that number out of action. This will reduce the possibility of someone gullible returning their call. I have had as many as 10 of us calling them non-stop.
  6. I renewed on time and it took 3 months to get my card. Good luck with any attempt to expedite the process. The IRS is non-expediteable.
  7. RUN FORREST RUN!! Best advice for your client.
  8. I enjoy playing with them. When they ask my name, I give them the name of one of our Government Administration people. I then pretend that I DO owe tens of thousands and have been running. I have kept one of these on the phone for about 10 minutes before I slipped up. I am looking to improve on my personal best in this competition. The longer I keep them busy, the less time for them to find someone gullible. It is a shame though, that 1 out of 7 of their calls finds someone uninformed and gullible to send them money.
  9. It IS subject to early withdrawal penalty. Treat it as if it were a distribution and disregard the loan factor. If the client is not 59 1/2, they pay the penalty.
  10. Then you should do a visual inspection. Squirrels like the taste of wire insulation. In fact, you should look at all wiring in the attic for the same reason. I lived out in the country in a wooded area and we had squirrel problems all the time.
  11. My favorite!!
  12. This is for Abby Normal....
  13. The outer jacket is not nearly as durable as the individual wire insulation. Unless you have critters in the space where your wires run, you should have no problem. Another tip. I terminate every wire with a punch down jack. Then use patch cords. I do not trust self-installed RJ-45 plugs. I can be certain the punch down connections are good. Self installed jacks are trouble waiting to happen.
  14. You may not have to totally rewire. If you have Cat5 or higher, reworking all the terminations and using patch cables will accomplish your quest. To have full Gigabit compatibility, all 8 wires in the Cat5 must be terminated properly. Changing the actual cables will have very little difference in speed. In fact, the difference will just barely be measurable and not noticeable as a user. Did that here at the firm, made sure all lines were passing info at Gigabit speed and noticed a huge difference. I found several places where Cat5 cable was connected in the middle of a long run with wires just twisted and taped. That wire was replaced. However, if I had simply terminated both ends with a jack and used a 1ft patch cord, I could have accomplished the same thing. It was just easier to pull a new wire. (access was easy)
  15. It is the newest scam targeted at gullible seniors. Everyone with aged parents should be making them aware and telling them not to talk to a caller asking for personal information. These scam call work at the rate of about 1 out of 7. Everyone should help all the seniors you know to be part of the 6 that are not taken advantage of.
  16. I would dare say Pacun, that you have not taken the EA exam in the past 10 years. Am I correct? The tests I took did not in any way match what you just stated. The amount of useless information I had to memorize to pass the tests was ridiculous. In the real world, I will use less than 10% of the information in the questions for all three parts. I initially took tests in 2011. Passed them all Jan. 2014. Been preparing taxes since 1997. Your theory does not hold water. Failing part 2 of the test in 2011 was the first test I ever failed in my entire life. I am not exaggerating. I have had some low test scores in my life, but never failed one. Including school. I agree with your stance about "I don't take tests well." Our entire job entails answering test questions.
  17. Reporting the scammers is a waste of our professional time. There is no method to track them as they use internet phones that spoof IP addresses and phone numbers. Save your time and energy for something useful. Reporting the scammers is like killing flies outside. It may make you feel good, but will not have any effect on the amount of flies you will have to encounter. Simply hang up, curse at them or whatever.
  18. Just because he is your friend does not shift the responsibility for these matters to you. All the replies so far have sage wisdom in them. YOU are not responsible for their irresponsible actions or lack of. Keeping in mind the current environment of the IRS holds you responsible for the tax returns you sign. Keep your professional stance, go forward and sleep well.
  19. I asked at the IRS Forum in Chicago last month. No plans for at least 5 years to allow electronic filing of 1040X. I think it is a plan to keep the USPS in business.
  20. Well, the evidence at hand does not support your suspicion. If your suspicion is correct, that one staff member was not involved in the organization of this event.
  21. The fundraising group needs to consult with a qualified tax professional about tax matters. Those kind of "requirements" that groups impose due to lack of knowledge, is like using a shotgun to hit one single bird in a whole flock. Maybe you could solicit their accounting business? Sounds like they need a knowledgeable tax professional.
  22. Churches do not need the determination letter.
  23. Well, she hasn't given me a hug yet, so I am safe at this point...
  24. Is pink your preferred color, or does it matter when you are blindfolded?
