  1. In the update process, Intuit says something to the effect of: "We are making these changes based on input from our users." MALE BOVINE SCAT!!
  2. There are many preparers that do returns as a second source of income that charge low fees just to keep clients. This practice of providing "affordable tax preparation" with pricing based on the clients financial situation, degrades the value of professional tax preparation by those of us doing it as a living. I hear the words: "Well they can only afford..." when talking about pricing very often among my peers in this industry. That attitude directly undermines my ability to charge a reasonable professional rate for my services. Please show me where it is stated that obtaining services from a professional must be "affordable?" My auto technician, plumber, electrician and landscape provider have no such policy. I have seen "part time" preparers charge 1/3 of what a return is worth because" "It is just something I do to earn a little extra spending money." RANT OVER
  3. Study and pass part 2 first. Do no other parts till you have passed #2. Once you conquer it, then move to the others. Spoken from first hand experience.
  4. Not possible. Build the 2012 from scratch.
  5. CCH just sent me an e-mail wanting me to use their tax software. I don't know whether to be disgusted or laughingly entertained by it...
  6. I get my CE as a secondary result of my attending seminars for the content. Already at 20 for this year. I just need 10 more for NAEA and I have three more seminars scheduled. Learning first, then I get all the CE I need.
  7. You could get a return transcript. Have your clients sign Form 2848 and call the Practitioner Priority Line and ask what was changed. For the record, the IRS always sends letters when a refund is changed. Now whether the USPS delivered it or not, is another question.
  8. Thank You everyone.
  9. Agree. It is 2016. Companies must come up to speed with 21st century technology and business protocols. This will mean that huge numbers of companies will need to hire competent and experienced bookkeepers. When the IRS fines start rolling in, there will be incentives for such a change.
  10. Intuit has chosen not to put resources into MAC versions due to the very small number of their clients that use them. Hence the lack of functionality. This should also be a noticeable fact when choosing a new computer. If Intuit barely supports Apple, there must be a major underlying reason. I stand by my recommendations.
  11. I have been searching for half an hour and cannot locate information about the last day e-files will be accepted this year. Anyone have a link or document? Historically, it has been around Nov 20, but I cannot find any information. Am I just having a senior day or is that information intentionally obscure?
  12. I will not be truncating anything. I choose not to be the babysitter for all the clients who are careless with their information.
  13. Buy a new PC with WIN 7 PRO as OS. Save tons of money and have an operating system that is known, stable and dependable. All Apple products are overpriced and designed to be "exclusive." Simply look at how much software is available for PC vs. MAC. That speaks for itself.
  14. "Additional fee for filing prior year tax returns.............. $15.00."
  15. I was not referring to sending anything to the IRS. Most IRA accounts will want to know that RMD's are being taken.
  16. I have had several posts deleted. If you stay around this site, you will need to get used to it. It is the nature of this site and the moderators.
  17. Send a note, signed by the taxpayer, to the other IRA account stating that all RMD withdrawals have been met from another IRA account. This will head off a letter from them.
  18. This is so very simple to understand. Someone in the State of Alabama tax department in charge of testing the software messed up. This means that some taxpayers will get a refund and some will owe tax. As preparers, we are not to take for granted that the software is correct. We must have a working knowledge of how the State taxes work. Therefore, some of the blame rests with the preparers. At the firm where I work part time, we do tax returns for all 50 states. Believe you me, the differences between states are many and have no consistency whatsoever. Throw a multi-state return in the mix and the necessary diligence increases exponentially.
  19. Here is a picture you can print and hang in your office, include with your texts or e-mails...
  20. Should have been fifty. May have accomplished what you want.
  21. This accurately describes my status with ATX and CCH. I have been sending complaints about several important shortcomings in the software since tax year software and nothing has changed. #theydontgiveadamn
  22. Surveys like you describe are as valuable as opinion polls BEFORE an election. I do not even bother.
  23. This thread is beginning to stink....
  24. I don't even try or worry about it. 9 months is enough time for ANYONE to gather and forward tax information. Penalty? TOO BAD SO SAD! (wait till you see MY bill!)
  25. The Auto-Save function, which can be set for every 5 minutes, has not been functional since the train-wreck of 2012. Auto-backup (a different function) works each time you close the file you are working on. I have complained at least a hundred times to tech support and sales about the auto-save not working, to absolutely no avail. Going forward, train yourself to click the save button every 5 minutes or so. If the 2016 program does not have this corrected, I will set my Outlook program to send a complaint e-mail every hour until it is corrected.
