Check the box on the child's return and have a cold one. It is correct.

Have the client get their teenage child or grandchild to download in the proper format and how to print in the proper format. This is NOT a NY & CT problem. It is a client that lacks enough basic computer skill to accomplish this simple task correctly. The average 6th grade and above student can do these things. Many children even younger. I stopped giving computer training 3 years ago, unless the client will pay a $100 retainer up front for an hour of hands (phone) on training. Each hour after that is $75. Funny how kids and grandkids work so much cheaper.

If you do anything except fire both of them, you are setting yourself up to be dragged through the muck that is sure to happen. FIRE THEM BOTH!

We all have the people calling us for free advice so they can do their returns themselves. I have developed a method.... Client "Can I ask you a question?"Me "Yes, I answer questions. The first one is free."Client "How much are the other questions?"Me "$100 each." "What is your second question?" Any of them with more than 3 brain cells get the point...

I guess I need to find different clients...

Drastically increase your income stream from him, file an extension and ignore him till AFTER your summer vacation. I grow weary of having tax experience and knowledge and being reduced to a baby sitter for incompetent adults. It is a reason I love being in this group because I am one of the least experienced people here and am among people who do NOT NEED tended to like little children.

Try OH Form 2023

SD adds back all income that the BUS credit takes away. Schedule C is part of the BUS credit. Schedule C income is always included in "earned income only" school districts.

1099-A is treated like a sales document. The sales price is the amount of the forgiven debt. Basis is calculated in the normal manner. This is NOT a cancellation of debt and Form 982 IS NOT APPROPRIATE. FMV may be listed on the form, but serves no purpose. If it is for the clients primary residence and there is a gain, the exemption may apply. If a loss, nothing else to be done. If the form is for a rental property, you treat it like you are selling it to the bank for the amount of the forgiven debt. FMV is only on the form for decoration. In the case of a rental property, with depreciation recapture, there may be a taxable gain. Cancellation of debt is an entirely separate unrelated transaction with different processes and rules. This only happens when Form 1099-C is issued.

No income, no business. When the first $ comes in, now there is a business. Until then, all costs are startup costs. Tax Prep 101 here...

This is in now way a rental situation. Even Stevie Wonder can see this one. Trying to skew the rules to reduce tax will not fly if ever looked at by the IRS.

Include the income on the SD100. Sch C income is considered earned income.

Looks like they will be paying back any subsidy they received. Now you can check the box AND fill in Form 8962.
-
I do the Sch A and charge for it, even if it does not make anything better. "Yes ma'am, I deducted those union dues, your $400 church giving and your husbands work boots. I also included the $200 donation of items to Goodwill. You can see them here on Schedule A."

I am going to stop telling clients the results of the return until I receive payment. The results are MY WORK and they should pay BEFORE they receive my work. I think people find out they are not getting thousands or owe and decide to let them set. We will see how this works.

Just get ready for the CP2000 in about a year.

Now you changed the species of animal.... Yes, you must enter the 1095-A information on Form 8962. No option. Do NOT CHECK THE BOX!!!!!
