The driver (provided by Brother online) we use has the watermark completly customizable. The printer is black & white, but position, font, size, darkness, fill pattern, etc. is all changeable. Check to make sure you have the latest driver version(s) for your printer. I have installed the same printer 4 times on my system with the default settings different for each one. I name each one by it's feature... "Duplex", "Standard", "Water", "Dup-Water". That way, when I print, I simply choose the correct printer for what I need. And I don't get stamp pad ink on my fingers or clothes.

Many printers have the ability to print a watermark. You can usually customize it to say whatever you wish. The Brother 5250DN that we use is completely customizable in that regard. Check your printer's manual.

I cannot get them to answer my e-mails. I purchased on April 27. I want to know if I am on the "A" list, or if we have been hornswoggled!! Phone call with the TRX salesman that took my money says one thing. The confirmation e-mail only tells how much I paid. I requested itemization and a copy of the guarantee on May 9. I received an exact copy of the same e-mail as response on May 11. I then asked for itemization and the guarantee again. That was Thursday May 14, at 8:00 AM. No response since. Uneasy? Concerned? Apprehensive? Doubtful? Skeptical? Tell me my concerns are misplaced??? The longer I go, the more I am beginning to distrust what Tax Software companies tell me.

I may have to re-think my stance on this issue! :read:

At the risk of sounding mean... Tax software DOES NOT equal Tax Knowledge. This is why my clients come to me instead of trying to do it themselves. I use this saying all the time when people refer to TaxCut or TurboTax. It is especially potent when they have received a notice after using the DIY tax programs.

Video cards that support 2 monitors are becoming the standard for add on. Not expensive either. $39-$150 depending on how fast you want them to be.

Get a big retainer up front!! Lots of work ahead of you! Stats show that approx 1 out of 7 OICs are approved.

That sounds like a good plan to me!! There should be a lot more of those in 2009.

I have had luck simply closing the program and opening it again. It is a Windows trademark "lost the link" erratic glitch.

Ditto I am not under any "obligation" to CCH or ATX. I am the CUSTOMER!! I give them money! They are the ones under obligation.

What options does my client have after tax court?
Jack from Ohio replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
Jainen, your answer echos my thoughts but before I committ my self to an answer, I wanted to tap every resource available. -
Background: Client was audited for 04,05, 06, & 07. Started with 04, and then went forward after disallowing things on the 04 return. The auditor took a very poor attitude and disallowed many things that we provided documentation for in follow-up interviews. (We did not do the returns) Client dallied around after receiving the final audit reports till the allowable time to file for appeal had passed. Client filed with tax court hoping the court would send it back to appeals because of the nature of the items in question. The court (on April 15, 2009) denied consideration of the case and said: "WHEREFORE, it is prayed that the relief sought in the petition be denied and that the respondent's determination, as set forth in the notices of deficiency, be in all respects approved." Question: Does my client have any other options?

We have trouble with people understanding the simple task of signing the 8879 and sending it back. Even those that have e-filed for 5 years... "You mean I have to sign it and send it back??" No easy working answer for the account # problem.

I find it difficult to believe that you have clients that don't give you certain information that is important to their return... I have never heard of such a thing.... :dunno:

I feel better now, knowing I was not the only one who missed that....!!

The option to accept or reject the deposit lies totally with the bank. Each bank sets its own policies. Example 1) Bank call the client when the client had closed one account and opened another. After the bank spoke to the client, they allowed the deposit into the new account even though the ACH was for the old account. Example 2) Bank refused the deposit from spouse filing separately because the account had both names on it. Example 3) Credit union refued the deposit because it was labeled a checking account instead of a savings account. The only difference between checking acct# and savings acct# was a two digit extension on the account# which was not included on the return. Client was throughly angered because his information about the two digit extension was not on any documents concerning his savings account. Example 4) Bank re-opened the old account, allowed the deposit, closed the accont, and contacted the client. One of my clients worked in a Credit Union and a bank and was in charge of the ACH transfers. She told me that the receiving bank has the ability to do any of the things mentioned above. There is a definite pattern to the examples above... Examples 1 & 4 were small hometown banks.

Most repeated phrase to clients this time of year
Jack from Ohio replied to Booger's topic in General Chat
Client: "Why do I owe $3,500 AGAIN this year?" Me: "Did you send in those estimated payment vouchers I made up for you last year?" Client: "No, I didn't think they would be necessary so I didn't send them." Me: Silent as I let it POSSIBLY sink in... then... "Didn't we have this discussion last year about underpayment penalties?" Client: "Yes, but I thought this year would be different, and my neighbor doesn't send any in so I didn't think I would need to either." Me: Frustrated now, I have IMPORTANT things to do..... "If you do not use the vouchers I provided, my fee next year will be $100 higher." Client: CLICK.... -

"Your return was e-filed, no, you do not have to send a copy of your return with the payment voucher!"
