If the history of CCH continues to repeat itself, there will be no better offer put on the table, but they will make the offer again in September or October. I will bet the steak dinner that the CCH salesman owes me, that the 10% discount offer will be continued through Jan or Feb 2010. Any takers?

On the actual form 5405 be sure to enter the purchase price at the top of the page, and the date of purchase below the address. You should not use the calculation worksheet. The worksheet is only used for "Calculating and Allocating Credit Between Unmarried Taxpayers" It has also been recommended by the IRS that if you are amending to claim the credit, that you enclose a copy of the closing statement with the amended return. I had the same problem with a client about 6 weeks ago.

When they called me, they had all our business information. They also kept our customer number the same as before. This was true for the firm and my personal business as well. He said that any technical problems should be addressed to the CCH support phone number. I asked specifically... "So for the tax season ahead, things will be just as if we (I) purchased the software directly from CCH?" His direct answer... "Yes, nothing will be different than in years past." It is my decided opinion, that there was definitely some direct interaction between TRX & CCH. I am also keeping my parachute packed. This airplane may not be so stable in the months and years ahead.

I took the same call for the firm I work at, and my personal business as well. I am not sure why it happened, but according to the salesperson at TRX, things should be just as if we had purchased directly from CCH. One thing I did notice... Very recently the calls from CCH asking us to renew have stopped. I never mentioned TRX to them, just told them I was keeping my options open. I agree with Phillip, something has transpired between TRX and CCH. By the way, I have written off the idea of ever collecting on my bet with the CCH salesperson! See the thread titled "Dear Valued ATX Customer" for all the details.

Please understand where I am coming from... I LOVE the ATX software. Changing from it in my personal practice (150+ clients) and the firm I also wokr for (3,000+ clients) is HUGE! New learning curves, conversion nightmares, etc. What I am TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED IN is the way that CCH has treated its customers in attitude and deed since the day they bought ATX. If the ATX software survives, I will find any source for it other than CCH. My business ethics are my business practices.

The salesman that made the bet with me won't return my e-mail messages. The lady salesperson called and gave me the pitch, and I had a simple question... "How do you like working for a company that makes you look foolish by stating specifically that the offer will not be extended, then turns around, extends the offer, and makes you call all the people that declined your offer in the first place?" She had no answer... I will never see my steak dinner, and unless things make a drastic change, CCH will never see any of my money again!! I can't operate my business with such two-faced policies, so if I have the choice, I will not support a business that operates with such policies. RANT OVER!!

That was me!! I made the bet with TWO different salespersons. One lady and one gentleman. I guarantee you they will welch on the bet!!

Or drill a 3/8" hole through it! I like the sound the drill makes when it hits the platen!! Or, take it apart. There are some VERY strong Rare Earth magnets in them. Then destroy the platen.(disk)

So my properly maintained 1990 Dodge Spirit 4dr which averages 25 MPG would not qualify?? If I break one spark plug wire, would that make it qualify? NO, I am not interested in a new car. I have a total of $3,125 in this car purchased two years ago. It started EVERY day, costs pennies to insure, all systems function, has R-12 AC that is intact and working, and has NO visible rust. I would be money stupid to buy a new car, even if the new one got 50 mpg. Our government is short and narrow sighted about fuel economy. Just my not so humble opinion.

Tech support was quite helpful. No explanation as to why, but the acks were not available on the system for my system to retrieve them. As if I had already received them. She was able to repost them and they all came through. I only had 5, but I needed to know. Call them!

I am calling tech support this morning (wish me luck!!). No acks since Monday June 1. I will post back my findings.

ATX not computing economic stimulus payment correctly
Jack from Ohio replied to PSTX's topic in General Chat
At the firm where I work, we did 2,900+ returns so far for 2008. We have had 14 notices sent to clients saying our calculations for RRC were incorrect and lowering the amount of refund submitted. 14 phone calls later, (that is one of the jobs I do) all 14 were changed to the amount we originally submitted. Each time the IRS person said that THEIR system made the error. The IRS system SUCKS BIG TIME for calculating the Rebate Recovery Credit. To be fair, there were a few times when the client received MORE RRC than we submitted. Each of those times it was input error by the preparer, or taking the client's word about how much RRC they already received. The boss had early on sent the memo telling everyone to check the IRS site for EVERY taxpayer, no matter what they tell us. My point is, that ATX calculator was RIGHT ON every time that all the correct information was input. -
Client in WA (our office is in OH) being audited for late filed 2005 (filed Sep 2006). She received the notice April 29. 2009. Client has talked to the auditor and set up a date of June 9, 2009. She only called today to get a copy of her 2004 return. The person that prepared the return is an EA. Question: What luck have you had getting the IRS to relocate the audit closer to your office in this kind of situation? Are there any special requirements etc? This is the first office audit we have had at this great distance, and would prefer not to fly all the way to WA to represent her. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

Could you share some of your sources to back that up?

The credit IS REFUNDABLE. The amount of the credit is 10% of the purchase price with a MAXIMUM credit of $4,000 for single, and $8,000 for married couple. There is a MYTH that the credit is $8,000 despite filing status or purchase price. There is also a MYTH that land contracts qualify. I have answered these two questions at least 25 time this week.
