  1. My signature and Avatar say it all!!
  2. Hypothetical... Is he adopting?
  3. I will hold my judgement about the fix for 48 more hours. Persistent pop-ups wanting to sell you anti-virus are not THAT easily cleaned out. This creature does not look like a virus to the anti-virus programs, and doesn't look like spyware to most anti-spyware programs. It is a hybrid that the writers are "morphing" almost daily to circumvent these programs. It has a "trojan" component that will (whenever the writer of the trojan commands it) do whatever the writer wants on your computer. Even sending thousands of spam e-mails in the background while you work. For Heavens Sake... BACK UP THOSE DATA FILES! RIGHT AWAY!!!
  4. Deb, IMMEDIATELY Back-up any and all critical data files on that computer. If you do not get it to a computer pro soon, and you keep clicking on those pop-ups, that trojan-malware will delete critical system files that will prevent a restore, or allow you to remove the offending virus. 1ST HAND EXPERIENCE HERE! Once it deletes those certain parts of the operating system, the only cure is a complete reformat and reinstall of your operating systems and programs. An older and less intelligent version of that same virus/malware caused me to have to totally re-do 3 workstations here at my firm. If I get to a computer before anyone clicks (left OR right) on those popups, I can save it. If you have clicked many times trying to get it to leave, it may be too late! IMMEDIATELY BACK UP THE FILES!!!
  5. The difference in filing today, or Monday or Tuesday will not make any difference in how fast the refund is sent. Cutoff is all returns Acknowleged by 12:00PM on Thursday. Direct deposits will be processed 8 days later, checks mailed 15 days later. (Unless the IRS decides to delay the refund)
  6. Is anyone using these free softwares on Windows 7? I loved PDF Factory that came on the 2004 ATX CD, but it refuses to work on Windows 7.
  7. Or from the most trusted source for tax information... THE MEDIA!!
  8. That is NOT a good sign!!
  9. I would only pay the interest up to the date you send the check. Any further should rightly be hers. Had you not made the mistake, her ability to pay most likely would not have been any different. Then she would also scrutinize every entry because she either owes more or is getting a smaller refund than last year. The taxes and interes are HER responsibility from the time that you agree to making her whole from your mistake. If she does go somewhere else next year, you will only lose stress and headaches!
  10. If the mistake is mine, I pay all interest and penalties. In the realm of the business world, you must decide if the amount of business you may lose or retain for the $60 is worth the $60.
  11. The only way to get that discount price is to have been one that purchased from TRX last year. There are no exceptions to that rule. That being said, CCH needs a good lesson in customer service and attitude toward their loyal clients. I went renegade last year simply for the price. I have loyalty ONLY to the software. CCH has blown their reputation and good standing with me from the first year they owned the ATX software. The only reason I purchased from them for 2010 is that I like the software, and do not want to convert my firm's 3,000 clients to another program. Imagine how much time would be lost in 2010 processing year verifying if everything converted properly, plus the learning curve for 10 employees. I sent a scathing e-mail to CCH management about this very issue, and I included an MP3 of me speaking the e-mail so they could hear my voice inflections and hear my general disgust with their management practices. (copies available on request. Just contact me!)
  12. No new acks from the IRS since Tuesday. Haven't called tech support yet (I dislike having to hold the hand of the first two people I talk to, showing them how to connect me to a tech that can handle the problem) and I was wondering if I am the only one suffering this malady?
  13. The Healthcare Enhancement for Local Public Safety (HELPS)Retirees Act was signed into law on August 17, 2006 as part of the PensionProtection Act of 2006. The HELPS Retirees Act takes effect on January 1, 2007 and will allow a yearly disbursement of up to $3,000 pre-tax from a governmental defined benefit pension, 403(b )or 457 plan to retired public safety officers for use toward health care insurance premiums. The disbursements, which will be made directly to insurance and health care providers, will be tax-free. Prior to the HELPS Retirees Act, when retirees paid for their health insurance premium, it was paid with out of their pockets with after-tax dollars. Beginning in January 1, 2007, eligible public safety retirees will be able to use pre-tax dollars from their qualified pension plans to pay for insurance premiums. If they are in the 28 percent federal marginal tax rate bracket, this could be a tax savings credit on their Adjusted Gross Annual Income of up to $840 per year! This special tax exclusion must be elected by each retiree.
  14. We e-file ALL extensions and have never had an extension not be processed. This year 400+ Last year 350+ Corporate and personal.
  15. Did I Receive the $250 Payment Follow this link and find out for sure if he did or did not receive the $250.

    OIC

He will have a better chance if he takes the money to get an OIC and buys lottery tickets.
  17. I totally agree!! One more thing... My Grandpa used to say... "You can't fix stupid!"
  18. Ask him for $2,000 Cash retainer before you lay a pen to anything. Then make him sign an engagement letter. If he balks, hand him his letter and tell him call Ronnie Deutch. You will not lose anything but an ulcer if you send him down the road. One more thing... My Grandpa used to say... "You can't fix stupid!"
  19. I like the idea for Eric! Management at CCH is far from earning any gratitude like that from me!! Some of the tech support people have, but is seems to be a minority. The old ATX crew was a huge asset, and I sure do miss their dedication and abilities!!
  20. On Monday, the Tax Court in Lam v. Commissioner, T.C. Memo. 2010-82 (Apr. 19, 2010) rejected a taxpayer’s use of the “Geithner defense” (called this because during his confirmation hearings, Tim Geithner blamed some of his tax issues on problems with tax-preparation software) and held that blaming TurboTax for errors on her return did not excuse her from penalties. The Court stated: At trial Ms. Lam repeatedly argued that petitioners consistently filled out their tax returns using TurboTax and that she consistently confused capital gains and losses with ordinary income and expenses. Although the Court concludes the errors in petitioners’ tax preparation were made in good faith, petitioners have not established that they behaved in a manner consistent with that of a prudent person. Before the trial petitioners stipulated that they did not consult a tax professional or visit the IRS’ Web site for instructions on filing the Schedule C. At trial Ms. Lam did not attempt to show a reasonable cause for petitioners’ underpayment of taxes. Instead she analogized her situation to that of the Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner. Citing a Wikipedia article, Ms. Lam essentially argues that, like Secretary Geithner, she used Turbo Tax, resulting in mistakes on her taxes.
  21. At least not yet....
  22. I prefer to fire those kind by everwhelming them with fees. Make them decide to go to someoene else or make the payment match the aggravation they cause.
  23. I was having the same problem earlier. They suggested synchronizing, and I told them NO WAY! At the time I had 5,245 files in my e-file folder, and did not have hours to wait, nor did I want to lose all the "completed" tags I had inserted. So, after climbing up two levels, I was put in touch with Brannon. He is the software tech EXTAORDINARE! He downloaded our database (took 35 minutes) made a time stamp change, uploaded it back and problem was solved. Synch will do it, but with over 2,500+ clients, I did not want to put all that work in again. It is a known problem.
  24. I was told that the salespeople don't have an answer because management (????) doesn't know why it is doing that, or what the policy will be. CCH management... Some things never change!! Just in case... Start looking up your EFIN letter, or get one from e-services. If we all get new account IDs we will all have to submit those again. Get ready to setup all of our "My ATX" sites again as well.
