NO. Separate all the way, or the IRS auditor may disallow any deduction paid with your personal card. Seen this live and in person. Get a second card.

The part that chaps my backside is the fact that I had the same fingerprinting and background check to get my EFIN number. Yet our government run agency cannot share that information between departments within the same organization. Our government agencies at their best!! And this is the same government that wants us to believe they can manage our healthcare and it be done properly?? :dunno:

This article just reinforces the fact that the disconnect between our congress, Washington DC and our government in general, and reality of life in America, is so great that without an massive replacement of the players in our national government, all at the same time, nothing is going to change.

He raised the Grand Champion Steer, and it sold for $12,650.

Client's son received notice of not filing for 2009. Son was senoir in High School and won Grand Champion Steer in 4-H for his county. Steer sold for $12, 650. 1099MISC was issued, but son did not file a return. He was led to believe it was not taxable. He had no other income for 2009. Calculating tax due as prize on line 21 results in $1,373 in tax. Would it be proper to put this on C-EZ and deduct expenses? Even with the SE tax, the amount is considerably lower even as low as $300. Boy has had 4H steers for the past 6 years and not won any prizes. Your thoughts and opinions?

PTIN is used to identify the preparer on the tax return. EA number is totally different, and is not part of the return. You must continue to use the assigned PTIN when signing tax returns.

We did not prepare the return being audited. These clients were ours for about 8 years thru 2007, then chose to "save money" and do two years themselves. Jan. 2011 we get a frantic call about them being audited for 2009. Their home business showed a $26K loss. We would never have allowed such a loss on about $22K of business income. "Do It Yourself" said all was OK. Needless to say, they let us do 2010 and will be our clients for life now. "Do it yourself" cost them $15K in additional taxes, interest and penalties, because they cannot document where all the deposits in their checking account originated, on top of the mistakes on the returns that were overlooked by "the box." The auditor was leaning toward auditing 2008. We have given him every detail he asked for that the clients were able to provide, and think we may dodge that bullet by "...establish a respectful, professional relationship during the audit." I just love "Do It Yourself" tax software!:D

Received my quote with special pricing on Friday May 27. The letter was dated May 18. I am in Ohio, the letter came from Georgia. That only left one business day. I waited 45 minutes, finally talked to my rep, got things handled. Informed him that the site to renew on was down also.

Has anyone else tried to renew their ATX subscription with CCH today?? Been on hold 25 minutes now, and doubt that I will speak to anyone. Love getting letters 10 days after they are dated, and just 1 business day before the offer expires. There is a website listed to renew online, so I tried that to expedite things rather then wait on the phone. Message says: Thank you for your interest in renewing your software. Give us a call at 1-800-495-4626 to complete your renewal for tax year 2010. We’re available Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm Eastern. Online renewal for tax year 2011 will be available on April 1, 2011. There is no place to go further. So much for CCH taking proper care of their website. Each year at renewal time, I question my choice to stay with them....

I live in SW Ohio. Greenville is 75 miles almost due north of Cincinnati, is where I live and the pics were taken. Fortunately, the only casualties were a few thousand leaves from the trees, a few plants with minor damage in the garden and the ability to watch shows on local tv stations. Seems the weather forcasters want to teach Weather forcasting 101 on live TV. The weather coverage was on the local stations from 7:30PM till 1:30AM last night.

These fell tonight at 9:35. This picture was taken almost 20 minutes later. The sound of all the different size hailstones hitting the tin roof was amazing!! These were golf ball size when they fell. It is 12:27 AM here now and more hail is coming down.

I agree.

I have 2 clients under Chapter 13. The trustee must be given a copy of the return, and he will then send a release to the IRS before a refund will be granted. It is sort of "on hold" till the trustee releases all or part of it.

Just received a final 2008 audit report. $2,300 increased tax due to audit. Accuracy penalty of $461 or 20%. My question... Is the accuracy penalty mandatory or discretionary? Seems that not all final audit reports have this assessed.

Trying To E-File a NonResident Indiana Tax Return
Jack from Ohio replied to TonyP's topic in General Chat
Indiana does not allow the e-file of non-resident forms. I live 12 miles from the Indiana border. It is NOT ATX, it is Indiana. -

"Tax software does not equal tax knowledge" Said by some very wise tax preparer and I stole the line!! -
Quite a well written response that did not address a single issue I mentioned, and then went on to "assume" issues that we were dealing with. We do returns from all 50 states and 3 territories. We do not have the multi-state issues you speak of. I would say that we have 500-600 multi-state returns. Our staff is very up to date with information and training about states and how they all interact. We have very few "work arounds" as you describe with our complex returns. This comes from 9 years of experience with the software. Information and processes from 12+ years ago are not relevant today. Still waiting on answers to how you would address the issues I mentioned.

What would be your answer to the reasons I stated for not changing?
-
With our firm having 10 preparers during season and 5 year round as well as the fact that we do 2,900+ returns every year, the obstacles for changing are HUGE. We have used ATX since 2002. 1. Learning curve for 10 people. After 9 years of using the program, we have become very familiar with its quirks and how it works. I have also become intimately familiar with how to fix all the "glitches" that happen regularly. 2. Conversion. I have yet to hear of a program that accurately and properly converts returns. We do thousands of return with depreciation and assets. This is one area that is always a problem, and and checking every detail of 2,900 returns is a monumental task. 3. None of the programs we have demo'd are as form based, in my mind the most natural method, as it all comes down to what is or is not on the actual forms. 4. Even with all the networking hassles we had this year, and next year will probably be the same, the "costs" of changing are far higher than the dollars saved.
