I always put the client's home phone number in the filer information tab on 1040 and check the X beside it. It flows to all those places on all forms.

No Federal tax credit for appliance purchase. www.energystar.gov has all the informtion about energy tax credits.

You don't have to recreate, but you have to release them manually. Going through the long list to see which feds are accepted is a big pain!!

At the firm where I work, I am the person who takes care of the e-filing. We average 30+ a day. Only about 10% of them release automatically. It is a real time consumer with the number we process. At my personal practice, I don't e-file nearly as many, but the same results. I cannot find a pattern at all. I put the word out to tech support, but I think sending in any problems is a waste of good electrons.

E-FILE REJECT DUE TO FIRST TIME HOME BUYER REPAYMENT
Jack from Ohio replied to Tax Prep by Deb's topic in E-File
Did he give you the letter he received from the IRS? It will have the information you need to make it match. The total amount borrowed is probably what is not matching. -

I am not sure what causes the problems you experience, but we have 10 workstations that print tax forms, and have never had an issue with printing of ANY forms, worksheets or reports. Used ATX since 2003 and have never experienced it.

The amount of debt cancelled is the sale price. You are correct on both examples. Example 1 IS on the hook for capital gains. Consider that he sold the rental to the bank for the amount of his debt. Many people will want to use form 982 in these scenarios. The 1099-A is not a debt forgiveness document, only a change of ownership document. If the financial institutions issue a 1099-C, then forgiveness on form 982 MAY be useable. Possible 1099-C for $150,000 on house 1 Possible 1099-C for $125,000 on house 2

Check Schedule 7 for third person permission information. It will be rejected by IN if there is no information on it. I filled it in in the master form changes.

I was of the mind that the 8453 had no use anymore, since .pdf files can be attached to MEF e-files.

I do tax returns for people that live in California. Your chances of getting a 1099 that will allow you to e-file are less than me winning the Powerball. Sometimes the correct answer is not convienient or easy. Paper file. Problem solved. I have paper filed several returns for people that live in CA over the last 8 years. Is there more to the story than you are sharing??

http://www.irs.gov/i...tml?portlet=106 Update: We are aware that some taxpayers who have filed electronically and received an acknowledgement from the IRS are concerned when they visit "Where's My Refund" and are told that we have no information regarding their return. This is a temporary situation, and we expect to resolve the matter in a few days. At that time, taxpayers will be able to get an expected refund date when they visit "Where's My Refund." If a taxpayer received an acknowledgment message that their e-filed tax return has been received, they can be assured that the IRS has the tax return even though "Where's My Refund" does not reflect that. Taxpayers should not call the IRS unless specifically directed by "Where's My Refund," as there is no new information to give them. We expect the vast majority of tax refunds to continue to be issued within the historical range of 10 to 21 days. The IRS is taking steps to update information so that Where's My Refund has current information. The IRS apologizes for any inconvenience and will provide updated information as soon as possible.

We have many small towns that the only address they have is a PO Box. No problems.

ATX customer service gets worse each year.
Jack from Ohio replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
When you call, you are answered by "Customer Service?" not a tech support. You have to exasperate the person that answers so she will then "get permission" to switch you to tech support. Once you get to tech support, your chances of finding someone knowlegable increase. I start my conversation with... "I have a problem that is much deeper than can be answered by you Googling my question and reading answers. Please connect me with tech support or your supervisor." Works every time. -
I have gone to the client's page in the brokerage website and download the reports. Clients are quick to give me access when I tell them that if I put them all in manually, it is $1 per transaction. I charge 25% of that amount if I am able to download. Sometime you get paid for what you know, not what you do....

Ohio Notice of taxes due for on-line cigarette purchases
Jack from Ohio replied to Janitor Bob's topic in General Chat
The same technology that lets him purchase them out of state easily, is the same technology that lets the State of Ohio find him. I am sure that the person reselling them claimed all the income on Sched C too?? -
When in doubt, send them out!

I don't know what it is this year, but my clients are unruly!
Jack from Ohio replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
He will be back for tax year 2012. Make sure you increase your fees for him appropriately!! I call those kind "retread" customers. I make more money, and their attitude is usually much better. If he doesn't come back, you are the beneficiary!! -
Are you using Win 7? HP is very well known for NOT writing Win 7 drivers for most of their printers over 3-4 years old. A new inexpesive black & white laser printer will be faster, (20 ppm) and far less expensive per page to print from that your inkjet. Our main printers that do about 2,000 pages a month during season, cost $189 at several retail outlets. If it hiccups, we replace it. On the shelf at the office supply stores. We have 3 that are networked, so if 1 goes down, we can use the other two. Very little down time to replace it no clogged inkjet nozzels, and really cheap copy price. Sometimes spending a few dollars for current technology will save you hours and hours of time, and money in the long run. FYI We have $.006 per page printing costs.

New printers every 24 months max! That is life in 2012.
