  1. This was the process. 1120S was e-filed in Feb. The IRS sent the 2553 back for missing information. One of the pieces was the part to explain the reasons. Hence my questions about what constitutes "reasonable cause." The IRS did NOT reject the 2553, just needed missing information. All your input(s) have been enlightening, informative and a bit amusing....
  2. EFTPS is the only way if paper filing.
  3. It is a website issue. I still cannot get in with Windows7 and IE9. Showed the error to my son, (a software and website engineer) and his immediate response was... "They need to fix their website." Don't count on it being fixed. I use my old computer with XP and IE8 and have zero issues. ATX needs to get some higher quality website people. Been a problem for at least 6 weeks. The error message is for the webmaster. It says that the information to identify the specific problem is locked and can only be accesed by approved personell.
  4. How about the real true reason that the stockholders made the decision to become an S in fall of 2011. September exactly. Will that be "reasonable cause?" I hate the term "reasonable" anything!! One man's reasonable is another man's unreasonable.
  5. Client had C-Corp for 10 years and was barely able to make even a small profit. 2010 his business finally got it's feet and started making decent profits. All officers have had reasonable salaries paid for all year. Decided to make the S election November 2011. What would be some acceptable wording for "reasonable cause" for filing the election late? 1120S was e-filed and accepted 2-28-12 with 2553 attached as a .pdf. IRS sent it back, due to some missing signatures and the explanation. Any ideas? We have till April 25 to reply.
  6. I have a spelling checker I disk covered four my PC. It plane lee marks four my revue Miss steaks aye can knot see. Eye ran this poem threw it. Your sure real glad two no. Its very polished in its weigh, My checker tolled me sew. A checker is a blessing. It freeze yew lodes of thyme. It helps me right awl stiles two reed, And aides me when aye rime. 7. At the firm I work for, we have received over 300+ scanned and e-mailed 8879s. Perfectly allowable.
  8. Use only RITA 37 form for a resident of Gahana. All of their income will be taxed by Gahana due to residing there. Follow the directions on the form for credit for taxes paid to other communities and the self-employed income. If the self-employed income is earned in other taxing municipalites, forms for each of those cities will also need to be filed, prorating accordingly.
  9. Turbo Tax does not do School District or local city tax. This is a huge selling point for my services here in Ohio.
  10. I never trust the ATX MFJ vs MFS page. Many many shortcomings. The only true way is to either split the return, if your software does that, or duplicate and remove the appropriate information from both new ones, then compare the actual results. Been burned by the ATX page. Even though ATX will not "split" the return, it is not too difficult to create to duplicates and change them accordingly. I can do it in about 15 minutes now, after having done literaly hundreds here in Ohio.
  11. Makes some of the complaints we have seem mundane, doesn't it?
  12. Put together a 3 page totally comprehensive engagement letter essentially saying that everything he/she gives you has been approved by him and is accurate and he/she has all documentation to support the information. There should be at least 12-15 separate sections. At the end of each section, require his/her signature. Tell him/her that without all this document signed properly by him, you cannot finish his return. To see if he would really read it, slide in a paragraph about "substantial increase in preparation fees" due to the extra time and effort needed to complete his return. Make it about 40%. Makes me wonder how accurate the information you have received in the past is??? :dunno:
  13. " We guarantee all our CALCULATIONS to be 100% accurate" She will waste her time calling Intuit. Tried that for one of our clients. 2009 return, our client ended up with $5,000+ interest and penalties when Turbo Tax allowed $15,000+ office in home deduction and the same for cost of goods on $2,400 in sales. The original audit wanted about $13,000 total. We managed to get it reduced. Turbo Tax is good for my business. "Next year!" Fix her problem, gain a client that will be yours from now on.
  14. Open the clergy worksheet. Mark her clergy w-2 as clergy in the special drop down box. If her clergy W-2 is done correctly, there will only be numbers in box 1 and possibly box 2. If SS or Medicare withheld, then all I just told you is in vain.
  15. So I guess YOUR crystal ball is broken too??
  16. I have a piece of land, oceanfront in Arizona to sell you.....
  17. Nothing special on the second return. Just be sure it is mailed before April 17, 2012. Pretend it is the first one filed. I have experienced too many hitches and glitches sending amended. Especially the long amount of time the IRS takes to process them.
  18. Where did that myth that the signature has to match the document get started??
  19. The second 1040 must be mailed. 1040X will not be able to e-file for several years according to the IRS.
  20. Agree. If filed before the due date, a second 1040 will replace the original. No need for amend.
  21. Try again and use the insert hyperlink icon.
  22. I had three children go through college. Oldest 5 years, second 2 years, third 4 years. Total of 11 FAFSA. I was "randomly selected" for further documentation 11 out of 11 years. It is DEFINITELY NOT random. The FAFSA will not get the information any sooner than anyone else. Everyone must simply WAIT on the IRS MODERNIZED E_FILE system to catch up. I figure June 1, 2012.
  23. Time that you worry about DCN numbers is wasted time.
  24. Please explain the reasons why you all seem to not want anyone to know that you prepared any given return whether you were paid or not?? Do you do them less "correctly" if you don't get paid? I strive to be too much the informed and experienced professional to run and hide...
  25. Save your wait time. You will get NO HELP from your phone call.
