  1. My point exactly.
  2. Save your time. Will calling the IRS give me additional information or speed my refund? No, calling the IRS won’t do anything to speed your refund. The IRS processes more than 140 million tax returns each year, and our telephone assistors are not the people who actually process tax returns. The best option for taxpayers is to check “Where’s My Refund” or IRS2Go and remember the vast majority of tax refunds will be issued within 21 days. More information about the refund process is available in our YouTube video, When Will I Get My Refund?, and an IRS fact sheet. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=254102,00.html Unless you a CPA, EA, or Attorney with signed 2848, you will not be able to get information. I know this from first hand knowledge and experience from this tax season. Your client will just have to wait.
  3. It does not matter what year the return is. Cannot e-file a return in 2012 with an EIN obtained in 2012. The direct answer to your question is: Jan 15, 2013
  4. There is no one that could say it better!! Multiple likes from me!!
  5. Paper file is your only option. No efile for EIN issued in 2012. Had the same situation with an EIN on a 2011 return.
  6. Bottom line - No profit, no problem with the wages or the IRS.
  7. Today, I cannot get updates from the website at all. Is anyone else having the problem?
  8. Those are not arguments. It is simply that some people do not know the right choices!! Hands down... IBM (PC), Pepsi & briefs.
  9. Looks "photoshopped" or "modified." Skeptical. I have never seen an IRS notice with an insert of infromation like that. Lines of the highlighted(?) text are not parallel with the others. Poor photoshopping or modification at best.
  10. Agree TOTALLY with jainen. Don't attempt to be a hero. Verify, then get help. In the meantime, say nothing to them AT ALL until you talk to the attorney.
  11. Past, Present & Future walked into a bar..... It was Tense
  12. Clouds are nice to look at, bring rain and protect from the sun. Other than that, in my opinion, there is no use for them.
  13. Important documents from banks and other institutions can be reprinted. Not having a doucment from an institution or organization is not an excuse.
  14. The software I bought from them was NOT the issue at all!! I got a KILLER deal on ATX that year. Software = 5 stars. Company knowing how to treat customers and/or how to be a "tech" company in the 21st century = -2 stars!! Products are not their problem. Now I will also say that CCH is only one star ahead of them...
  15. Making a lot of money and able to spend it on advertising in the form of a Nascar sponsorship does NOT mean that their company knows how to treat customers, knows their products, has salespeople that are trained and knowledgable about their products, has tech support that knows what they are doing or even salespeople that know how to be honest and forthright. Should I start a list of companies that give a Nascar sponsorship and are totally lousy companies to do business with? Oh Oh Ohh OOOHHH I think I already did.
  16. Just more of the reasons that I choose not to consider anything they have.
  17. My one year experience buying software through TRX and the incessant harassing me to buy the following years (it took me 3 years and dozens of requests to stop the e-mails and phone calls trying to get me to buy their TRX product) have caused me to not even consider any product they have to sell. So, as I have said many times, I am not MOST anything!!!
  18. File the required taxes, and advise your clients not to listen to the LegalZoom.com commercials and also to consult with their tax professional about the tax implications of such moves BEFORE they make them. Even attorneys will suggest LLC's with no consideration of the tax consequences.
  19. Exactly my point. In general, when a person is in your situation, you should consult a knowledgable and trusted tax professional.
  20. Spend the time you took to post here to locate a tax professional in your area who is knowledgable in this area. His experience and knowledge in this matter will be worth whatever he charges. Would you dictate to me, without cost, the best way to increase the flexibility of my network and the proper equipment to replace?
  21. I guess that some preparers think that the IRS closely scrutinizes ALL tax returns. I however, live and work in a world where REALITY is much different. Please share with me where an auditor has make ANY remark, or made ANY change concerning a $1 entry of any kind?? We have dealt with an auditor that did not know that when you claim standard deduction the prior year, that state tax refund is NOT taxable in this tax year. (true story)
  22. Here is the answer. http://www.finaid.org/loans/20080919treasurylevinforgiveness.pdf Page 3 middle of the page.
  23. I too have clients that have been, and some still are, unemployed. Yes, everyone must eat. All have monthly bills to deal with. All have annual expenses for car registration, auto insurance, homeowners insurance, etc. Would it not be financially prudent for them to save money and time by going to a professional rather than chasing the pipe dream as seen on TV. Now we all know that everything in commercials is 100% true! I personally have been through all the possible scenarios of jobs in my 40 years working. Laid off twice, company closed under me 3 times, unemployed with no health insurance, earning WELL BELOW the poverty line for a family of 2 but having a family of 5. I have experienced the worst. Those conditions are not excuses for making bad choices over where and how to get your tax return prepared. It is an annual event, and everyone knows it is coming. Cut corners, spend too much money.
  24. That is the entire source of the problem. Additionally: Our industry is labeled, tagged and dissed by the media as overcharging. We are not seen as professionals. Until the perception of our industry changes, this will always be a problem. I allow my clients to pursue "saving money on tax prep." The next year, they become my clients for life, with a built in fee increase from then on. Human nature cannot be changed. I have considered making a substantial increase in my fees just to weed out the people that are only concerned with who is the least expensive. Less clients, same pay, less work. Just my rant for today!
  25. Client is totally disabled as of 2008. Student loans in the amount of $95K+ forgiven in 2011 due to disability. 1099-C is from U.S. Department of Education. Question: Is this 1099-C taxable? I can find no regulation that allows exception for debt forgiveness. If Student Loan is forgiven due to working in appropriate fields for the proper time, the forgiven amount is not taxable and no 1099-C will be issued. Any ideas?
