  1. The website is NOT connected to the same system that agents use when assisting for phone calls. NOPE, not taking that excuse! I agree, their computer system is outdated, and being run by clueless bureaucrats, but that is NOT the website.
  2. They are NOT on any deadline! They are also clueless about anything outside their little cubicles...
  3. Old age and treachery wins over youth and vigor every time!!
  4. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Wonder how much of our tax money was spent on the overhaul that is not complete?
  5. 120 weighted questions. Total possible score of 500. Passing is 350 points. When you take the test, you will only be told if you pass or fail.
  6. Google bots log in to harvest information for their site. Those little bugs are EVERYWHERE! It is why Google works so well.
  7. I always mark the return complete. Then no changes without a warning.
  8. With dual screens, you will never have that problem. I will NEVER go back to a single monitor!!
  9. Way too soon!!!! Patience...
  10. If the organization will reimburse her, she can then get the Sched A deduction if she donates the amount back to them. We run into this all the time at our church. We follow the same protocol. Give us the receipts, we will reimburse you, then you make the donation. Church does not pay for the associated items or services, and the member gets a legitimate deduction. The budget committee prefers it as well so that they have accurate information about expenses.
  11. http://www.irs.gov/C...e-Contributions http://www.irs.gov/p...s-pdf/p1771.pdf These answer all the questions. I stick with my NO answer. No direct donation involved. The organization could reimburse her, then she can contribute the amount. Otherwise, no.
  12. Non-profit does not mean charitable. Charitable donations must be given to a charitable organization in order to be deductible. Must be a track and documentation of the gift, including value. I believe the simple answer is no.
  13. You are correct. Also, for 2012, the credit is no longer refundable!!
  14. Those of us in Ohio who do a ton of MFS love the idea! Now I can see both current returns at the same time! Even with multiple screens, two in the same year was not possible!!
  15. I did get it. I was supposed to get the info about when and where earlier in the week so I could go to Chicago. I received it at 11:45 AM today!! Here is the e-mail.... They finally scrapped the Acess97 database and that allows all these other functions!! Excited, but still skeptical. They have been promising this since 2007. Today, we are proud to introduce ATX 2012, the latest version of our industry-leading tax preparation software. This release is the culmination of a development process which involved you, our customers, more than ever before. ATX 2012 delivers many of the enhancements that you suggested, but retains the ATX user experience you are already comfortable with. Among the 2012 enhancements included in ATX 2012: Expanded preparer customization The ability to open multiple returns Enhanced client communications Advanced print functionality You will be hearing a lot more about ATX 2012 in the weeks and months to come as we lead up to our regular release of the software in November. In the meantime, if you are in the Chicago area today, I personally want to invite you to stop by our booth(#1310) at the Flagg Midwest Accounting Show for a live demo of ATX 2012. If you can't stop by for a demo, you can view our pre-recorded video of ATX 2012 by clicking /0/"]here. Jeff Gramlich President, CCH Small Firm Services
  16. I have seen my natural gas bill cut 60% due to the newly discovered gas entering the market. Two years ago, GCR was $1.05/ccf. August bill sees the GCR at $.39/ccf. I use a very small amount of natural gas for heat and hot water. Larger consumers will save even more. The "greed" is driven by a marketplace demand. I prefer the word "entrepreneurial spirit" seeing an opportunity to help supply meet demand. Calling the entrepreneurs "greedy" is the basis of class warfare, and I am appalled at how quickly we insult those that choose to take the chances and do things that we could have but did not choose to do.
  17. Probably advice from his barber and his plumber.
  18. Correct me if I am wrong, but Partnership partners can only take guaranteed payments and any distributions of profit are subject to SE on the personal retrun as well. All transferred via the K-1. So all income from the partnership is taxed as income and subject to SE.
  19. Send me a message. I can help you with all your concerns. RITA is a city income tax. OH7202 is a School District income tax. Contact through the message center here is good.
  20. Government regulations into the "sublime and ridiculous" category!
  21. Yes and Yes. Also, the 1099 is the least of his worries. If a short sale or foreclosure, he must count the amount "forgiven" as the sale price of the property. He may have capital gains, despited the short sale or foreclosure. I will find the link to the IRS section that tells this. I will post it later. Either way, he will get a 1099C and/or a 1099A since it is a rental property.
  22. This tax season, the system was anything but helpful. The same delay that plagued refunds plagued the transcript system. Transcript for a return was available the same day that the refund was processed. Some time 3-8 weeks after filing. (even e-file) I NEVER use the transcript insertion tool for FAFSA for this very reason. Most clients need the FAFSA in the system the same day the tax return is completed. It is impossible to use the insertion tool at that point. Colleges are "verifying" a much larger percentage of FAFSA submissions. When my kids were in college, a copy of my return with some verification of numbers was acceptable. Now, due to the large amount of fraud, colleges will only accept the IRS transcript for verification. I had several clients in this situation, and the IRS told them "...our system has been delaying refunds, and the transcripts will be available at the same time the refund is processed." This year, the IRS is implementing MORE steps to catch fraudulent and Identity Theft returns. This will slow the refund and transcript systems even further. Don't get your hopes up!!
  23. HEAR! HEAR!!
  24. If anyone anywhere else is going, I am still willing to share the expense! Contact me. I will make sure my cell number is in my profile.
  25. Some human had to touch it. A photocopy will not have MICR ink for the machine to read. A human would attach a small strip to the bottom with the RTN and ACT # in MICR ink so the machines can process it.
