It seems we are getting a new tax bill (Law)

I disagree with your optimism on all counts. Till the ink is dry, NOTHING is certain or sacred when it come to the Legislature trying to pass something as convoluted as a tax bill. -
Don't hold your breath on either account.

I have nothing to discuss until there is Presidential ink dried on the bill. Till then, all is still political gossip. -

I guess I will simply tell my clients that need transcripts to mail the requests and wait. Me being able to expedite the process just evaporated. Not my choice, not my actions to put it in such a screwed up condition. if clients would only keep tax documents.... -
Nothing is changed until the Presidential ink is dry on a bill. To talk about things before this happens, is to play into the hands of the media and troublemakers in Washington. The more political gossip they get people to participate in, the more distracted everyone will be about all the other changes that are sure to happen.

How about that client that is a no-show 3 times in the same year?

"... actively ignore proposed tax changes and wait until the actual tax law changes..." If the items you think will surely be included, get tossed out, then where does that put you in the eyes of your clients? All talk about the upcoming tax law changes is just political gossip and media "fake news" fodder. Until the bill has Presidential ink on it, I am NOT considering any changes, and do not play "what if?"

"If you fail to make your appointment, without rescheduling at least 24 hours in advance, there will be a $25 charge." This has reduced no-shows by 60%. The other no-shows get the charge added when they do show up or billed if they choose not to come in at all.

You keep believing that. If that is truly what you believe, I have a bridge to sell you.

The issues that cause the delay are NOT MY DOING! I have a huge disclaimer that is part of my engagement letter stating that the amount of time to receive refunds is TOTALLY up to the IRS and I cannot change that. Edsel, be wise and choose your battles. You will LOSE on this one on several fronts. Your actions WILL NOT change the processes of the IRS and will only cause your client (and yourself) more trouble and heartaches. There is more of a chance that, your proposed course of action will cause delays in subsequent year refunds as well. I choose not to portray myself as the SuperHero taking on the entire infrastructure of the IRS due to something that I did not cause. And, you put yourself right in the crosshairs for accuracy penalties on yourself. How much of a gambler are you with your clients' money and your ability to prepare taxes.

You have a 50/50 chance on this one! I have experienced both. Some years, both at the same time... I have come to loathe talking to anyone at CCH except tier 3 technicians. Everyone else makes my blood boil!!
