I don't let Malwarebytes update automatically. It sends me a message to say that an update is available. I will skip this one.

I use a "base plus" system of pricing. Tax year 2017, my fees would be $170 for the situation you described. If childcare or other additional forms end up being needed, then extra fees are applied.

Gail is EXACTLY correct!

Then let them clean up their mess when they create it. No problem here. They will call back asking for help to straighten out their troubles. More premium fees. I do make a fair amount of money putting out fires that taxpayers create. My experience and knowledge did not come to me free, by any measure.

Some other program or activity is corrupting the file. The biggest offenders are anti-virus and internet security programs. Yes, I agree that it is probably a computer problem with the user. Too many "crap" programs on the system. I state this due to my first hand experiences.

I charge a premium price to be the nursemaid for those clients. Why isn't the guidance counselor trained and experienced in that area? It is so simple now, hence the reason for my premium price. I currently have 10 repeating clients for the past 5 years. Send them to me!!

Raise your rates 20%. Your business will be better, you will have less stress, and you will make more money. I did that in 2014. It works.

We have not experienced such an issue. Because it is only happening on a few systems, ATXKristin is probably correct. We have 10 workstations and as many as 8 people using the ATX program simultaneously. No such issue has been seen here.

New Client. Lived abroad (India & Spain) since 2014. Claimed foreign tax credit all years. Maintains a residence here in U.S. Looking at his 2016 return, he filed FINCEN, Form 8938 and multiple forms 8621. All looks in order. I am looking for someone with much more experience with this kind of situation than I have. Preparing the return does not seem out of my ability, but I have multiple questions about where some of the numbers come from and why they are put in certain places. Anyone willing to help, send me a PM.

I do not think it is possible. IRS does not allow users to make structural changes to the return, as we were able to do pre-2012. I don't believe we can even change the font. Locked down, per IRS mandates.

I feel your pain. They won't believe you, the tax professional, but they will believe their neighbor....

Just because no Minnesota tax was withheld, does not mean the income is not taxable by Minnesota. Send it!

You know how to attract those "special" kinds of tax clients!!

You must have been out of the loop about these things for 2 to 3 years....

SS site is saying that they are no longer providing Accuwage, due to incompatibilities with OS. ATX has always created a proper file.

I have started having the client call, wait and request the transcripts. If they complain about the wait, I say: "Blame it on the hackers and the lack of funding for the IRS from Congress. Call your Congressman."

I was confused by the title of this thread: W2 & 1099 Error Messages when E-filing I guess my grasp of English is slipping...

How is that working for you this year? IRS has announced that no e-filed personal returns will be accepted before Jan. 29, 2018.
