  1. My condolences. So glad you got to see her last week.
  2. I was taught years ago in a similar fashion and have never had a question. I copy the original return (those appropriate schedules and pages 1 and 2) slightly offset to have a wider margin on the right side. In red pen I write at the top of that margin "As Amended" and write the amended figures in red in that column. I have had a stamp made that says "DO NOT PROCESS - ATTACHMENT FOR FORM 1040X ONLY" and stamp it liberally all over the copy of the originally filed return. At the top of each page I write, in red, the same words. If there are added form to be processed, I just include those without the stamp and so note in the explanation. I want to make it as easy as possible for IRS to see the changes.
  3. Thanks, Lion. I think I might drag myself into the present and try out some of those - maybe after tax season. Oops, then the marathon is May 3 then my son's wedding is May 16, then I think I'll sleep for a couple of weeks! Thanks again!
  4. I cleaned up Tuesday and found a cat claw and a lot! of hair. I guess with 3 cats climbing around (one is laying right in the middle of my work spot as we type and read), it's to be expected.
  5. Thanks so much to you all. I somehow don't seem to get around to sharing wishes to others but do so now in one big Happy Birthday to us all and Happy First Day of Spring! My part time clerk just brought me a big plate of home made shortbread. She's from South Afica and a fabulous cook. I was born on my mother's birthday - she always joked that I was the one gift she couldn't exchange. Hmmmm...So I'm 63 and off for a 17 mile run tomorrow morning. Hope I make it! By the way, how do you make that party thing with the flashing sign? It's so cute!
  6. Add Form 5884 to the 1120S and complete line. Line 4 should flow through to Line 13g on Sch. K and on through Sch. K-1. I have a Research Inv. TC for a client and it has flowed perfectly for several years (but I do wish it would go away!). At the shareholder level, if appropriate, us 5884 or 3800. Follow the instructions.
  7. I synch'ed earlier this season as a last resort and did not HALLELUJAH lose all the completed checks. Believe me I was nervous about it and just resigned myself then was very pleasantly surprised.
  8. Hello Danielle! What a beautiful child you have! Isn't it amazing how a group of people involved with a software program could feel and continue such a sense of community all this time? Most of corporate America, in my opinion, would do very well to try to emulate the attitudes and responsiveness of the "old" ATX towards their customer family. That is surely what was created over time and continues here. So many of us wished we had been able to attend the barbecue a few years ago that we thought more than well-deserved by a great group. Best of luck in your new career and stick around this board - we would love to help you!
  9. Thanks, I got sort of that far. This is for a 2007 return and, when I go to Detail-Items, it just shows Line 12 Dom Prod Act Inf Code O - Items 1 through 8. The next Line 12 is Code R Othr Ded. So I don't see P and Q (nor do I mind them!) and don't understand what the items 1-8 are supposed to be. I input gross receipts on Item 1 and expenses on Items 4 and 5. That seemed to flow through but I don't understand the instructions about the W-2 wages. They are from the S-corp, of course, but not reported on the K-1. Sigh... I'm confused. So I'll go out for a run to make a bank deposit and get psyched for the 14 miler tomorrow at 7:30. Training for my 5th marathon.
  10. That's okay. We all do it sometimes. Especially when there are so many very helpful folks here that support us. If you know anything about Form 8903 and how to input what in a K-1 for the shareholder, I really need help with that. When I finished this year's 1120S and it had a loss, I began the carryback to last year. When I looked afresh at last year's return, I realized that it qualified for the DPAD so had to go back and reread all that still incomprehensible gobbledy gook. I think I have it but not sure. I will likely be posting that separately here soon!
  11. Jasdim, you did it correctly. I did 2 of those last year and all went well. Booger, I assumed that you had or would read the 8453 instructions once led to the form. Sorry about that! Jasdim provided them - s/he is nicer than I am... I think you are on the right track now and can rest easy with this one.
  12. Form 8453. It's the first item on the list of attachments that can be sent.
  13. Ah, yes, I remember those days as well. How fortunate are those of us to be able to access those with much knowledge and willingness to share on this board and others. I am a sole practitioner with a home office after several years in small firms. I need and so appreciate the wisdom and humor of these, my virtual water cooler colleagues. Thanks to the Queen, the King, the Supreme Master and all of you willing to help! I and many others couldn't do this without you...
  14. I send pdf's to clients for review for efiling (and for storage, too) and most of the time I have to add the state forms. That's why leaving the print manager open is so helpful. I've learned pretty quickly to page through each pdf to make sure all the forms are there. More often than not, I have to add. It's so strange that I cannot pinpoint this occurrance 100% of the time or figure out the exact cause. Almost driving me batty but I have to live with it for now.
  15. I realized after some time staring that is was an adorable dog. But I had to stare hard. My office managers are 3 cats, Bonk, Noogie (Cattanooga) and Tribble. I love how they keep me on task - that is, scratching, feeding, letting in and out, etc. After all, dogs have owners and cats have staff. I really miss my lab-shepherd mix dogs. They were such good friends. But we decided after the last one died that cats were easier in our old age. My son has our granddog and she gets to come over to spend the weekend about once a month, though.
  16. Ah, but she is THE ATX Supreme Master. Just look under her name and picture (which for the longest time I thought was a fire on some burning logs - weak, aged eyes, what can I say?).
  17. Well, I can't compete with the Supreme Master and won't try! I've had a Maine client for several years so thought I could help out. If she messes it up, though, remember me!
  18. Add Form 7004, 8879-S or whatever and 1120/S EF Info. Fill in appropriately, click on E-file, select Federal Extension. If anything is missing or out of order, you will get the message and can correct it. If not, it will be created. Then go to E-file manager and transmit the created form. The only hassle is the signature.
  19. I would PM you if I could figure out how to do it! The help wasn't very helpful to me.
  20. Very strange, I extended 2 yesterday without that happening. I just now updated and noticed that 7004 was included. Could it be the version from today?
  21. You are not alone nor or you imagining things. As michaelmars said, it has been discussed, run through CS, etc. and ATX says, not happening. The best piece of advice I got is to change your preferences for printing under Print Manager to NOT Automatically close Print Manager after printing (uncheck the box). It's a tiny nuisance to have to close the print manager when, on those rare occasions, everything works but it's much better than having to go through all the steps again. And it does seem to print just fine when only that selection is made. Good luck!
  22. I just learned that myself last week via this board. Input the K-1 data as it is and add Form 6198. It took a while to figure out that I had to complete the tab "Ln 11 - Investment" and "Ln 12 - Increases" after putting in Line 1 and line 9. When those were completed, the loss did not flow through to page 1 and it shows just right on the At-Risk Loss CO tab. Good luck!
  23. Not bring forward the carryover? Intentionally? Whatever on earth were they thinking?
  24. Just to pass along - I contacted Karen Fisk about this particular client. She said the SD 100 is considered an attachment to the IT 1040 and, yes, this client's SD 100 was received. It doesn't show on the OH efiled forms, though. Kinda makes me a bit nervous to have no positive confirmation of receipt...
  25. In my opinion, unresearched at this moment, I would report it just to tie up any loose ends. These were business assets and it closes the books, so to speak, on the purchase, use and ultimate disposition. Why not report it?
