Happy birthday to your daughter, my sympathies to you and I always file prior year returns to the current year address and on the envelope write Form 1040, Tax Year xxxx. I can't easily find where this is the gospel but I also have not had issues with doing like this. I also send certified mail return receipt. Maybe someone will chime it with the gospel.

Also note that the instructions for Lines 1 and 8, Column (- Date Acquired state, "If you sold a block of stock (or similar property) that you acquired through several different purchases, you may report the sale on one line and enter "VARIOUS" in column (. However, you still must report the .... For Column ©- Date Sold Enter in this column the date you sold the asset.... This has been invaluable in grouping the dividends reinvested for several months or years and all sold on the same date. I have listed each sale date but used the Various purchase date and had several returns successfully efiled and accepted this year and last year with no 'love letters.' I think the intent is clear. At least in my mind, what there is left of it!

When I have had to do that, I was contacted by phone in one case and by email in another but your mileage may vary. In both cases, the reply was within that day. I'm guessing the previous discussion here didn't resolve the issue. Good luck and thanks for the wishes!

Tom, I get that message every time, too, but when I complete the worksheet, with no NOL as a result, it isn't a problem. Now, I haven't yet had anyone with a NOL to carry back or forward so honestly don't know what I would do if/when that happens. It is annoying, though, isn't it? Have you completed a worksheet that does result in a NOL for a client and it flows through?

'Tis only fittin' that we begin this day with a wee bit o' Irish humor... An aging man lived alone in Ireland. His only son was in Long Kesh Prison and he didn't know anyone who would spade his potato garden. Bonnie, ours is a mixed marriage, too. I am so definitely an owl it seems nearly impossible to sleep before 11 or 12 and up until 2 is not a rarity. Hubby is up at 5:15 and out on his bicycle soon after. It's a wonder we still know each other!

That's my position, too. I think it was a good deal but don't feel comfortable with all the finagling and emailing to confirm who was getting what from where. I consider this year my one year bonus and will in all likelihood stick with ATX.

If you aren't already involved with Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org/), you might try that. I have been amazed with things of great value to some few that are offered.

Have you noticed any of them sort of sniffing the air and looking around? Could be a message there.

Is it possible to provide details on the linked sheets to the specific line items? That is, explain what each expense is for each company. The federal form can be identified for specific activities; there is no possibility for PA to do that? I, too, would be loath to have to provide all stuff you said would have to follow a letter. There must be some workaround. But then, is it possible that the combined figures would exceed the "allowed amount" anyway so maybe your client should start gathering the supporting docs now...

If you are using ATX, have you checked to be sure the birth date is correct? The birth year must be 1993 or later. I have transposed numbers before and nearly lost my whatever trying to find the error when it was something so simple.

A great thing about a home office is not having to wear shoes (or, um, other things but we won't go there) at all or sometimes and putting them wherever it is convenient. Right now I am headed out the door for a run before it rains and the client who just called to drop off some things might very well see me in my running clothes. Hey, it isn't a pretty site but she asked for it!

I haven't tried it but perhaps you could input/override the totals on a D-1 that would flow through to the D then mail in the D-1. I know it is still an override but, but...

Ahhh, wouldn't it be great to have drop down boxes that solve everything, including reasons to stop swearing? And I don't just mean in tax software.
