When you select Print, typically a screen comes up that gives options to print Filing, Client, and/or Preparer copies or to custom print maybe an extra schedule to go with a local return. The Filing copy usually defaults to print all the forms and schedules that you have in the return along with the appropriate statements. The Client copy includes all of that plus the worksheets so the client can see the data entry source, etc. and prints Client Copy on everything if you have selected that in the Preferences. The Preparer copy includes everything. You also can choose the State/Local returns. Worksheets typically are not included in the filing copy. You may want to print to pdf for the client and preparer copies then delete unwanted worksheets. I don't recall any unused worksheets being printed with the filing copy but maybe you are using forms and/or schedules I have not used.

Hmmm, you just might maybe perchance have noticed that I and one or two others on this board have been incorrect (aka wrong) on one or more occasions, too. I think we just hope to catch our errors or have them caught before any real damage (besides that to our egos) is done! Now be kind to yourself and those around you as we collectively begin to live and breathe again for a while.

Gene, you might be thinking that the extension to file has been shortened by a month to September. Maybe that's what you're thinking? Remembering?

One last first time homebuyer credit
Margaret CPA in OH replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I see the distinction between a mobile home which is moveable but has no motor and an RV which is moveable but has a motor and is also a vehicle. I find it interesting, though, that an RV can qualify for a mortgage as a second home if it has cooking and toilet facilities. Glad I don't make the rules! -

I think you just won the prize for tax return/situation of the year! But yeah, amended returns have to be mailed. I think if it was me (not much thought, mind you), I would seriously consider having her not pay the tax due and file the amended return showing no tax paid. The safer thing would be pay and get the refund and I would guess she had the money and was expecting to pay. Hey, there might even be some interest on this to make it all worthwhile! -
Say, Catherine, where is Booger these days? I have to wonder if he has been stepping out on you as there hasn't been much online from him lately. I'll bet those clients have been wooing him with lusty tax returns and money to pay him... Cad!

Hear, hear! Sometimes tact simply goes directly over (or through) the heads of some clients. Sublety is incomprehensible. And sometimes clients and others just need to hear specific words such as, "That treatment isn't according to tax law and I won't do that." I had to do that last March and dang if the client didn't immediately call my employee to ask if she would continue doing the bookkeeping.

Oh my, these are ALL great but 2,3,7, and 9 I own for real! Thanks, Rita, for coming through again.

Just make sure the states involved will allow filing different from federal. Ohio requires the same filing status as federal.

Thanks so much, Julie! I will follow up with the state office to see what they require/expect and advise the client. I won't audit what he does but do want to be informed correctly as to what should be done. Perhaps I might actually advise the other contractor, too, if in his benefit. Thanks again!

I have 2 small contractors who have really been hurt by the economic situation. They are each sole shareholders in their respective S-corps. One is going without pay and can do so because his father is helping financially. The other, however, has filed for unemployment benefits (I just found out) for himself and his son/employee while continuing to work. They just aren't bringing in enough money to keep up with the materials payments and also pay wages. (Of course, he has been generating losses for a couple of years.) Anyway, another contractor friend told him he files for unemployment every December to pay off his bills but continues to work. Apparently the state says it is acceptable (on hold for more details) but what about federal stuff? Does the unemployment income just go on his regular tax return? Any impact on the corporation? It's a 2010 issue for me but thought I would get a head start if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!

Well, now, pardner, it depends on which Western you might be talkin' about. I'm in the midwest so maybe things have changed 'out thar thataways.' I think the chaps issue is a real concern nowadays - at least for me! Thanks Catherine, for needed chuckle!

Oh, just a reminder to mail to Ogden UT as usual.

You probably recall that ATX required the presence of 1041 in the client file in order to process the 1041A and 5227. So I guess that is the TRX method, as well. It was so aggravating as the letter always referred to the 1041. Tech support couldn't grasp that this is a different animal. Even now I find it annoying that the Type in the left list is "Other" rather than "Fiduciary" and that the Type in the columns is the dreaded "Info Sheet" which means just about anything. But we manage...
-
I believe you are correct. If you read through the forms and instructions you will have noted that the details that used to be included on the 1041A are now on the expanded 5227. This and last year have been so much easier. Unfortunately it cannot be efiled but it's still better! And thanks, it has been a great day. The end is in sight!

:bday: and many more! You share this special day with august company!
-
:bday: to us, to us, to uu-us... to us! Many, many thanks to Eric and all the family of contributors who keep us all keepin' on! Special thanks to Taxbilly for keeping track of the birthday celebrations, too!
-
:bday: and many, many more! Where would we and this board be without your wisdom and wit? Thanks for sharing so much of both for all these posts. Have a great birthyear!

Isn't it interesting, though, how many state and local agencies are not remitting refunds under $1 or even $5? Yet my son received a correction on his return from the state. For 29 cents. Yes, for 29 cents. I have no idea how that could be because we file in whole dollar amounts. I have yet to see the letter. It did say not to pay if under $1. Wonder how much it cost to process and mail that sucker?
-
Shucks! Thanks so kindly to all. I do try to offer good things and welcome being set straight when misspeaking. The best thing is the board kindness in sharing the accumulated wisdom and advice and, of course, moral support along the way. And don't forget those birthday wishes which, frankly, helped me get to this august number of posts. But it feels like family to share them. Let's go gettem' these last few days, folks, then PARTY!

Indeed, I have been filing a physician and her musician househusband as taxpayer and spouse (guess who is who) for about 7 years now.

Jasdim, I believe the correct term on this board is "frikkin." Unless of course you have a different meaning by "Friggin." But yeah! Where has he been? He'll likely say working but who really knows?

Unincorporated associations
Margaret CPA in OH replied to Margaret CPA in OH's topic in General Chat
Thanks to you both. They most certainly are not for profit as they have to chip in a little extra from time to time to cover costs. They are not a c anything as they have never filed for a determination of exempt status as stated in my original post. Money from dues has been collected but I don't know what other receipts there have been. I believe they have sponsored speakers and may have charged fees and paid them but will check. This is in Ohio. I will ask more about gross receipts and expenditures and accounting for same as well as deposits. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that they do have a checking account. My contact with all the questions has few answers but the incoming president is a retired attorney. I have asked that she be the next contact. We'll see. Thanks again for responses especially at this busy time. Maybe by next year, all will be sorted out. -
Unincorporated associations

Thanks for your responses. They are not incorporated or listed in any way with the state. Nor have they filed for an exemption status with IRS. The only thing they have is a long history and an EIN from IRS. I just want to know if they have any filing requirement. Because they have and gave out their EIN to a vendor, they have received a 1099-MISC. Will IRS be looking for something? If so, on what form? They are an association. I am baffled. -

Anyone with any ideas at all?
