  1. My goodness, bstaxes! Talk about some stress in your life...I am so glad that it is mostly good in the end. Hopefully the rest of your summer will be one of healing and health and enjoying those beautiful grandbabies.
  2. :bday: and many more!
  3. Thanks so much, Lion and others. I downloaded Bullzip and will try the CutePDF. I think one important thing is to be able to edit a pdf that someone else has sent to the secretary. Several times she has received pdf's only to have to retype for corrections, additions, etc. I will by trying out those functions as soon as I figure out how myself! Thanks again to all.
  4. Thanks, Taxbilly, but I still can't get it right. I will try the whole enchilada here: http://www.forbes.com/2010/06/09/tax-increase-congress-hedge-funds-personal-finance-s-corp-payoll-taxes.html?boxes=Homepagelighttop Perhaps folks can copy and paste, if interested...
  5. My local Sole Prop lunch group has raised the SE tax issue. A link was provided by one member My link I hope I did the link thingy correctly - we'll see. In any event, it's a pretty good description of what may affect many of us and our clients. At lunch today one attendee commented that it will just drive more to LLC's until that entity gets tagged.
  6. I did attend and also found it informative. As a CPA, many of the things don't affect me, I think. I am a bit annoyed about having to 're-up' my PTIN which I received within months of their first appearance. I am also not pleased to have to pay a fee. But if it helps to weed out unscrupulous preparers to any extent, I guess it will end up being a better way.

  8. The client designates his/her own PIN on the signature page of the Form 2848. It's right next to the signature line. I usually suggest the zip code for ease of memory.
  9. Yes, assuming you have registered with eservices and after you enter the data. Also, the client must have a PIN for you to enter. I just input one yesterday and, after verification (client dob, agi, etc.), had immediate access to the 2009 transcript.
  10. Thanks for all the responses. I, too, have pdf factory and even upgraded at some point. The church needs something that will create a pdf as well as read and edit, encrypt, notate, and some other functions that I don't even know or use yet. Lion, does this sound like the CutePDF will do those things? The info I read online seems to cover just about everthing that Adobe Pro does. I am definitely leaning that direction. If your husband has any caveats or helpful hints, I would appreciate it. Also, did he try any others and decide this was the best? I am always leery of free things but have had much great results with the CMI fixed assets, pdf factory, Open Office and Printkey 2000 so am not averse to free!
  11. I have Adobe Pro but am looking for a less expensive alternative for my church for editing, etc. I have looked at CutePDF Professional and pdfEdit995. The former is inexpensive and the latter is free. If any have used either of these or other similar programs, I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
  12. My process is to have the 8879 signed with the correct figures. I first have created an efile without the signature to check that the only error message is the lack of date signed. When the 8879 is received with signature, I create and efile. When the efile is accepted, I utilize the Form 9325 which contains the DCN as well as any other info about the return including how the client can check on the refund status. This eliminates contacting me about any delays. The client has the date of acceptance and any other IRS info. I find this to be less confusing than having another checkbox plus it provides info to the client.

  21. My oldest clients are 97 and 96 and will celebrate their 74th anniversary Sept. 11. We all hope he makes it as he is now in hospice care. He doesn't seem to know it, though, as he continues to go to church and symphony and enjoys lots of ice cream. They are so devoted to each other...
  22. Eric, do please let us know if there are sufficient funds to continue without dipping into your own pocket. We know you are shy about requesting money but we are nerds, generally, and don't often think about the support and maintenance of the important tools we use. By the way, how was dinner? Which restaurant did you and Brandy patronize? We do hope you enjoyed it!
