  1. What a bonus - a 5 minute break AND a four minute break! I don't deserve such good things but am always grateful when they arrive unbidden. Thanks!
  2. My condolences, Karen Lee...
  3. Most definitely NOT a waste of time. I'm smiling now after 2+ hours of frowns. Thanks!
  4. For ATX I seem to recall the number 3. I have had one additional user, networked, for no extra charge. Others will chime in and/or check the website. It might be shown there.
  5. Hello chadlonetree! I am PADI MSDT 191219 going to the Maldives in September and can hardly wait. Due to health issues I haven't been on a dive trip since the Banda Sea in 2009. I'll bet we could swap some great stories that might bore others to tears.
  6. Thanks so much for this blessing, fake or not. It is lovely!
  7. Good enough, then, it's a recognized educational credential. B Jani, you then may also want to look at additional books, supplies and equipment that would have been needed. AOC includes those and I can imagine that there would be needed supplies and equipment to learn hair dressing.
  8. Yeah, that's my real problem. Had they been closer, it's likely they could have held on until the new purchase but who wants to be paying a mortgage on and empty house in Maine and rent in Missouri while trying to find another home in a totally new area? They won't be happy but it is what it is. And she is a physician who had medical school loans forgiven by working in a low income clinic for 5 years and is making a whole lot more than I am now. I know my personal opinions shouldn't be a factor but I have trouble feeling for her and others when my own son missed the cutoff by 2 weeks because the seller dawdled. He makes about 30% of her wages and really could have used the money. Off the soapbox now...
  9. Pub. 970 states qualification for AOC: Student must be pursuing an undergraduate depree or other recognized education credential.
  10. Client is physician and family who owned a home in Maine from May 2005 until July 2009 then relocated to Missouri and rented until June 2010 when they closed on another house having a binding contract as of March 2010. I am thinking they don't quite fit the criteria of "previously owned and used the same main home as your main home for any 5-consecutive-year period during the 8-year period ending on the date you purchased your new main home." I think, following the letter of this phrase, they do not qualify because of the break in between the sale of the Maine/main home and the purchase (even with the binding contract in March) of the Missouri main home. Other opinions?
  11. What degree is granted from Hair Dresser college that qualifies for AOC?
  12. Thanks, I don't know if it will work, either, because I haven't tried it. Somehow I never got around to actually learning how to use this great program. Now that the majority of my clients send me their data electronically or fax (which is now also electronic), I guess I better get my rear in gear and use what I have available. Thanks, I'll try it this week!
  13. George, you are way ahead of me in utilizing the power of Adobe pro and I have vs 9. Sorry I can't help you but I am now intrigued enough to try to figure out what you are doing and how that helps data entry. I'll work on it and meanwhile wish you luck in figuring out this problem.
  14. Ray, I believe we agreed that the correct spelling is 'frikkin' although, when it comes to idyut, variations on spelling are likely acceptable. I have trouble with folks bumping into my mailbox post. Every time I remind them of the narrow drive, look out the window, don't rely on your rear view mirror, and, alas, repeatedly this falls on deaf, idyut ears.
  15. We've got us a real competition going here. Maybe we should keep track and have some sort of consolation prize for the worst of the season. I'm thinking there will be many, many entries!
  16. It's a wonder that client told you the results. It can be embarrassing to admit such things. Is the client returning? Are you accepting? Did you say or think, "I told you so, nyah, nyah?"
  17. There may be a 'wash' of sorts but the corp still needs to issue Forms 1099-INT and the shareholder/lender still needs to include it on their personal return. It's the principle, too. If one shareholder loaned money but not another, it wouldn't be a 'wash' to the shareholdet that didn't lend.
  18. My upset client can't believe that the brokerage firm didn't provide the basis for the mutual funds that they transferred in 2005. They were inherited and client did find the forms showing basis stepped up at that time but client is upset that firm didn't ask to input into their system and keep track of reinvested divs and cap gains. I explained how the law has finally been changed but only to the extent that the firm has the original basis. I asked client how did he think the brokerage could possibly know? He asked how I knew about this stuff. I explained that an accounting degree and MBA in taxation did a lot but investors should find out what they are getting into. I think he's calmer now, especially since I now know the sales are all long term, they are in the 15% bracket, and the gains are at 0% tax (except for one short term). When I originally input, the 1099 said all were short term because they dated from transfer into their firm. What people just don't know and get angry with us about is amazing!
  19. I think that would fall under TMI from their perspective. We are probably not on the 'need to know' list. But one could hope!
  20. Sweet Bippie? You don't look old enough to know that phrase. Did you watch the recent program with highlights from Laugh-in? I missed it, will try to find it online.
  21. Like many others, I think our tax code would be soooooo much simpler if the legislators were required to complete their own tax returns. Then again, it's a measure of job security of sorts for some of us, I guess.
  22. Eerie, isn't it? I updated twice already since about 9 and checked the version after the note from JRS - it was the same. Suddenly, a new version and update! Get the feeling someone's watching? Nahhhh...
  23. Sigh...Thanks for trying to help but I still end up in the endless loop of 'Don't worry, it's coming...just refresh the page.' I refresh the page, click on the arrow, same thing. Groundhog Day redux.
  24. Lion, I think we are being sent a subliminal message about something. Access denied!
  25. Now that depends on what, exactly! the quote is and how much trouble I'll be in because of it.
