TaxSlayer Pro is $995.00 but, they will let you put 300.00 down and give you a date to pay the balance by. For me, and now that I can process returns, I will be able to cover the balance before it is due so I can save the interest. Nice of them to help us
-
Cathy I know it is frustrating and if you are like me once all of the problems are "supposed" to be fixed, I still couldn't trust it. So I moved on. The frustration and lack of sleep isn't worth it.
-
I puchased mine on a debit card as a credit transaction and like others 10 months or so ago and now have closed that bank account so I may be stuck and have to take the long haul.
-
TaxSlayerPro will convert your files, you can check their website to be sure your previous software is on their list or just call them. They can have you up and running in 15 to 20 minutes. The conversion will take a bit longer depending on the size of your file. Here is what I know, I can complete returns, e-file, have registered and been accepted with Santa Barbara Bank, customized the cover page, added a custom form, set defaults on form prices and am operating as normal in less that 24 hours.

KC what you said makes perfect sense. However, an incomplete non-functioning product was delivered and we still have had no way of knowing if the product would eventually live up to it's promises which has put each one of us at a disadvantage. We're sort of forced into the wait and see scenario and in doing so, has been costly to most, if not all of us. We have suffered financially by having to purchase an another product at the most inoportune time to save our business. One would think that we should be able to recover some kind of damages for that as well. But if I can just get the refund, I will cut my losses and continue in my move forward
-
I am no longer attempting to do anything but get a refund from TRX. I wouldn't trust this software for anything nor can you trust any updates to leave what you have already done intact.
-
I didn't think I would give up on TRX but unfortunately I had to. I tried my best to believe that this product would indeed be ready and the bugs would be worked out. Like alot of you, I have been looking at other software trying demos; etc. Some of the companies that I have talked with do not say the same things regarding the availability of the forms. I purchased TaxSlayerPro today for 995.00. I have downloaded the software and completed (2) returns complete with NC State. NC is not ready to accept e-filing from anyone yet but that doesn't mean the forms cannot be completed so the client can see if they have a refund or what they owe. These two returns were prepared from scratch, printed and ready to go to my clients. I was even able to modify the return cover page, complete a list of form charges and I must say everything worked very well. In this program, all business forms are ready for use and can be completed. They have not completed the conversion for me yet due to the storms in their's and our areas this evening. But I think it will be effortless and now I can work on my S-Corp with the mother load of assets. Doug I am sorry but I couldn't hang in there any longer and the software has made me very nervous and uncomfortable. You very well may have a great product and for you and the folks at TRX I certainly hope that is the case. Now for the main part. The link below is TRX's cancellation policy. As I read this, a refund seems unavailable. There is a statement there that a full refund will be given within 72 hours of ordering. For those of us who took the hit by renewing early I don't see how this could apply. We bought a product on good faith by the information we were given that it would perform and had no way of knowing whether it would or would not. Therefore we should be able to exercise our rights to a refund. I do question the legality of this type of policy. Like others, I will attempt to obtain a refund. Doug, I think it better for you to state your position with this refund policy as well as what your intentions are regarding refunds for this product. http://trxsoftware.com/cancellation-policy/

Had an ex-client call me and inform me that he has received a notice from the IRS telling him he owes 5k in employment taxes for 2010. I was retained as the accountant for this guy's auto business in 2009 and thru the 3rd quarter of 2010. We had discussions regarding him miss classifying employees as sub contractors. I told him he was doing this and advised him of the consequences and told him to stop immediately. We discussed the responsibility of backup withholdings and he refused. I do not know who prepared his tax returns as our discussion got a little heated, I gave him a copy of the IRS regs showing how an employee was determined and then stayed away for the first part of 2010. He got into another location where he again asked me to help him with the service department, I did and after I discovered that all the books were screwed up, I began fixing them also. Again, he hired employees and wanted them classified as subs. This time I pulled my engagement in writing and haven't spoke to him since the other day. I reminded him of our conversations and told him to pay the bill becuase he has the burden of proving the 1099's he filed were indeed subs and not employees. He wants me to help him with the language in his response to support his position that they were subs. As I told him when I pulled my engagment I want no part of this. What responsbilitlity do I have if any to this guy?

Program has not gone back to .16 all night. It is now 6:45 AM EST and still no correction or update or no changes at all. I hope this doesn't last too long.
-
The addition of that feature will be nice. I am hanging in there.
-
Crank, after I closed the program and tried to reopen the program it prompted me that there was an update available. Says I have version .16 installed but wants version .15. Check your W-2 forms closely, the main W-2 is fine but the additional W-2's are now blank, very sluggish and none of the cells calculate. At this point, I am not opening any other returns to see if they are affected as well. I guess the only thing to do is wait.
-
I tried going back to version .15 and the program won't let me. Doug has answered my e-mail and says they are working on the problem now and asked me to hang in there for about 30 minutes.
-
Doug glad to see you here, please check your e-mail as this latest update has screwed a few things up for me. I need help with this. Also, program is now prompting me to download ver .15

Looks like were making progress.

Thanks Crank for posting this. Still have no idea on States or business proforma.

Roberts, I totally understand your frustration and your need is definitely different than mine. Yes, I have said that Doug and his team have been workingg 24/7. That comes from the time stamps on his e-mails at 3 AM and more than once. I realize that what is happening behind the scenes isn't as important as what is happening in the here and now. I am not defending anything other than what I know. I just want to give the guy a chance. I am as nervous and concerned as the rest and maybe spend a little more time testing double checking what I am doing. In your situation, I would agree that this is not working for you. I don't know why the States are not available and you are not the only one who has stated their State is accepting returns. You have to admit that some of the difficulties here are related to understanding how the software works while in our opinions others are inexcusable. I personally can't afford to drop another 1200+ dollars on another program and if I decide to discontinue using TRX, I want to do it respectfully. Many many people fromn other companies view all of these blogs/discussion boards and I think our integrity speakls for something. JMHO

Dang, I didn't think I was bein so obvious at what I was working for. Busted I guess.

<<<<It is NOT possible for me to complete a return because a) my state software is not available for either the 1040 side or the corporate side and corporate returns for feds aren't really possible. Try generating K-1s for a 1065. That is not about a desired level of proficiency. That's not working software.>>>>>>> Alot of the States, especially here in NC, have not approved or released forms yet. NC has done this many times in the past when I used ATX, TaxWorks and now TRX so I don't view this as a TRX problem. I have and am still working on a 1065 with three K-1 forms, depreciable assets with dispositions among other things and I have not really had an issue with anything on the Federal side yet. While my situation in NC is different as they do not require partnership return, but we do submit a blank form, your's is probably different and for that I sympathize. The other items you mention I cannot comment on. Here is what I know. At this time, Doug has communicated very well with me and I haven't asked for anything that I could judge as to whether it was a false promise. I have looked at the problems other companies are having and at this late date do not want to deal with conversion problems, learning curves;etc. At the end of season I may have a different attitude. I got a different software than I ordered as well but from what I hear it may not have been a terribly bad outcome. I guess I am just tired of people bashing without taking the time to consider what is happening in the background. Doug's team is working around the clock to solve these problems. Yes we all have paid for and deserve a functional product in a timely manner. Timliness is not on our side at all this season.

Taxed, I thought you had gone with another company and was perfectly happy. I want to tell everyone that I can what type of risk they are taking having YOU prepare their tax returns and how incompetent and unprofessional you are on a contiunual daily basis. I am sure your would appreciate it as much as Doug does. It should be YOU who discovers the calculation error as I assume by your posts you are professional enough to do so to avoid your clients receiving the CP2000 in the first place. Also, I would think by your posts, that you are too busy to have enough time to respond to every post with a negative comment. I mean really come on give it a break already. If you want to try to burn me at the stake for my comments go ahead and give it your best shot atleast you will be leaving Doug or somebody else alone.
-
Not sure on the State releases or the business proformas. I will continue to ask though.
-
<<<<<<you must be lucky and only one here answered by Doug.>>>>>>> NO, I'm not the lucky one but I am one of the ones who has chosen to try be as patient, respectful and understanding as I can. There have been several comments of folks receiving responses to their e-mails as well. One thing I have noticed is those folks who have received a response were not the ones on the band wagon to drive Doug and TRX into the ground. How many of your customers treat you and talk to you the way you have talked to and about Doug. Maybe you would feel just fine with one of your customers suggesting that everyone post everything they could about how horrible you were on the web. If you or a few others here were my client and asking for a refund in the manner that you have with threatening remarks and such, I wouldn't jump through hoops to give you a refund as fast as possible either. My customers who treat me fairly will get my attention first. There are problems right now and they are being addressed. You claim the software doesn't work when indeed it does. Maybe not to your desire but it does work and I feel confident it will be fine in the long run.

WTax the business proforma is the part that is not available yet. You can, and I have, complete returns of the type you mention. This Doug guy is working around the clock to help, give him a break!
-
Crank, I agree that overriding is not the best answer and yes the Schedule does not calculate correctly yet. I meant to do this to get the information to the 1040 as a means to review with your client if necessary. I too do not want to push a return out like this. I am hoping this will be taken care of tomorrow and then we can correct everything so all is well with the Schedule A. Here's the thing, I have people coming in and I do prepare most of my returns in front of them but not all. I have made sure that I explain the problems to them in a professional manner and each one has been very understanding so far. I will be mailing their copies once everything is working right and the State is available. I have them sign the 8879 with the watermark on it with the amounts so they are not signing a blank form. I too have an S-Corp pushing me and I agree with Roberts that this is definitely business but I have also told them that the IRS is not accepting any business returns at this time. This makes me feel uncomfortable as the IRS has not said when they will be accepting business returns but hasn't pushed back the due date for calendar year tax payers either. Three of my S-Corps are due March 15.
