  1. Well we are both in the same sinking ship. I used a debit card and later closed the bank account because they were ripping me off on fees. The cancellation policy mentioned above is the same as I already have. No matter how you look at it, it aint nothing but BS.
  2. I gotta agree with Jainen as child support and dependecy do not go hand in hand here. I'm not sure that a court ruling of who gets to claim the child overrules the IRS requirements to establish dependency.
  3. How about posting the refund policy that Karen Bills mentioned. Is it the same as the cancellation policy? Offering a credit for next year??? Are they serious?? What is the amount of the credit they are offering? Just like to know for my case.
  4. This person is a US Citizen and has moved back to Portugal where he will undoubtedly spend the rest of his life.
  5. What type of recourse is anyone seeking from the TN Attorney General's office? Refund? Buisiness closure?
  6. Some things never cease to amaze me. I just wish I had a 401K totaling that amount to wonder about. I agree with Cathy, you can't fix stupid. And yes, I can verify this with living proof. I teach young HS students every day. Any more questions?
  7. Never mind, I think I got the answer. His documents show chartiable contributions made to a goodwill store here in the US in October, house was sold in November. So, it would appear to be a regular 1040 return using his address in Portugal. Will this throw up any flags because of the address?
  8. Had a client move to Portugal at sometime during the year. I am waiting on a response to my e-mail questioning as to when he moved. I will research this but what time period is there, if any, for residency status. At first glance, I am assuming a 1040NR is in order here. Thanks in advance for any help with this.
  9. I'm not so sure. I am one of the ones who took a beating from TRX. I had to purchase a different software to even begin to process returns and to this date, TRX still doesn't work and in my opinion could never be trusted. There are a few concerns here, being able to serve my clients efficiently and accurately is at the top, processing returns that I am 100% comfortable with, and having the ability to receive a refund should whatever software I purchase go South is very close second. At this point in the season, I am considering renewing with TaxSlayer Pro but will have my share of questions that I will need answered before the credit card comes out. The other lesson well learned is, if I do renew in the spring, as soon as that disc arrives it will be installed and evaluated so a decision can be made to keep it or get a refund and move on. I anticipate doing this at the beginning of December. If the company that I renew with can't deliver the disk by then, then it will be questionable whether I seek a refund or not.
  10. See if this answers your question. Usually, benefits received from workman's compensation are tax exempt. http://www.irs.gov/publications/p525/ar02.html#en_US_2012_publink1000229331
  11. Hmmmm, smells phishy to me. I guess sometimes the people who do this think we are really stupid and can't tell the difference. The sad part is there are those who fall for this kind of crap all the time.
  12. I need to adjust my response above and include that in order to qualify for the reduction exclusion, the scholarship amounts must have been included as taxable income.
  13. Be careful with the education credits. Read Pub 970. Do not adjust the amounts billed/payed for by scholarship amounts that have no restrictions as to their use. If that scholarship falls under one of the other cateories, then the adjustment applies.
  14. Not a taxwise user but thanks anyway. It is nice to have something else to discuss.
  15. Think about it, it is just another way to add on an additional fee to make money. With that said, a fixed asset manager is a huge program. Do you need that or not? Does the program do depreciation without the fixed asset manager? Again, I'll refer you to TaxSlayer Pro. They do have a depreciation module that tracks the depreciation from year to year. I guess you could call it a fixed asset manager cause it will allow you to record the disposition of the asset as well. All one price.
  16. 1020S??? I think the statement from TRX was just another lie that fell into the pile with others. Doug said they were not worrying about the business returns due to the IRS delays so no you cannot proforma any business type returns. I personally have no interest to see if TRX can prepare the returns or not.
  17. I have one client who does this as well. But, he is organized with the paper work and all I have to do is reconcile the books. Like others, I charge a fee for that. Crank, I think I would have done the same thing. I had a truck driver that pulled out a crate box with all his records and said there it is and when could I be finished with it. I give him a polite but astronomical figure for me to organize that mess. Last I heard was he was getting his sister to organize it and he would get it me. Never seen him again, nothing ventured nothing gained I guess. I agree with you, better off not having any of the liability.
  18. I must be falling short on the IRS updates. I used to get them all of the time in my e-mail. Maybe I should reup on that. Thanks for the information.
  19. I purchased TaxSlayer Pro which is excellent software. Easy to learn, worksheet driven, 100% functional and customizable. Cost me $995.00. I can give you my sales rep's contact information. They have offered various discounts and payment options to help those who were hoo-dooed by TRX. See that I have been here to long as the southern terminology on things just come out. In yankee terms "screwed again"
  20. Has anyone heard any additional information on the release date of this form? I have a few returns waiting. The last I have seen is mid February.
  21. I see by your phone numnber you are somewhere near Cleveland and Lake Erie. I was born and raised near Youngstown, Ohio and can't remember exactly where Beachwood is. Anyway, nice to hear from someone around the home state. My best suggtestion is as you have already heard. If you are successful at getting it installed, there are 30 different updates that will cause more trouble than they fix. I do know they have Ohio State working but I question some of the local taxing authorities. Trust me, it is less pain full to pay for another software program than it is trying to work with TRX. Your call and I wish you the best.
  22. I just had this happen this evening. I told my client that if he found someone who was able to get him more, then it was illegal unless he wasn't revealing all information to me. Like the rest of you, if he comes back, then the 20 dollars he paid will be credited to him.
  23. Well there you go, one more snafu to add to the pot of trouble with TRX. I guess someone forgot to update the calculation to the new limit. Glad you changed software and yes peace of mind is definitely worth something.
  24. Taxed, thanks for the laugh. I am with Mike D as well. Only thing to add is what else is new. J Ron, I am sooooooo glad I changed. Been filing NC for over a week now with no problems and darn it, all information flows without a hitch. I still laugh at how Doug blamed NC. Oh well on to more work
  25. This is the last time I will give you any attention. Boca Tax, Danwil, mrichman33 in my opinion are the same person. All of you claim fantastic results, from the same product, within the same time frame and all started posting here on the same day. Am I the only that sees a pattern or problem here? >>>>>Have all your returns been accepted?<<<<<< Yes, will absolute efficiency and I'm not using your product. >>>>>I didn't even know this forum existed because I never had a problem with TRX until now.<<<<<< If you never had a problem with TRX you obviously weren't around before as we all have experienced one thing or another over the last four or five years. I bet you didn't even know how many times Doug has changed his company name over the last few years. Did you get your service bureau fees from him? No problems?? Seriously?? >>>>>>>>they offer it for FREE (its called Marketing)<<<<<< Deceptive marketing maybe. I have taken some marketing classes and have a very good friend who teaches marketing and giving the farm away wasn't one of the strategies that he teaches. Enough said I hope. Let's talk taxes, and help each other get through this season as properous as possible. Geez let's move on
